Orange You Glad I Found This? 1973 BMW 2002 Touring

The BMW 2002 was only sold in two door sedan configuration in the USA - while Europeans and others could purchase the cool looking Touring edition.  The 2002 Touring was more of a hatch-back and less of a station wagon, but it ads a lot more headroom and a functional rear hatch to the diminutive BMW 2002.  In an extraordinary coincidence, I spotted one roaming the wild streets of Southern California just yesterday and then tipper Erik202 sent in this super cheap example. Find this 1973 BMW 2002 Touring offered for $6,800 CAD ($5155 USD) located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada via Kijiji.

Help Us Decide Which Cars To Blog About!

CFlo's State of the Fleet Address

Here at the DT offices double-wide in the sky, it seems everyone has some sort of cool project car, wacky daily driver, or cheap performance machine. I think I might be the most deranged though, because at any given moment I need more than two full hands of fingers to count all the different project cars and needy old machinery sucking my time and attention. And I haven't lost any fingers...yet. Unfortunately I don't have the resources to write about everything I work on. This is where you come in!

Remember that BMW 2002 that wasn't a BMW 2002?  No?  It was a tube frame chassis with some BMW parts hanging out on top of a small block Ford V8 and it went from $6k...then $10k..and finally for $15 with a new paint job each time -- just read up on this article from 2013.  The beast is back for sale -- find this 1972 (or 1969?) BMW 2002 offered for $11,000 in Dallas, TX via craigslist.  Tip from Jack.

Dat Patina: 1976 BMW 2002

The BMW 2002 is on our short list of cars to buy now before they make the jump from classic junk to collectable junk.  Especially keep an eye out for patina'd versions that have been grounded to the ground...like this 1976 BMW 2002 offered for $5,999 in Burlington, MA via craigslist. Budget Bimmer: 1972 BMW 2002

The BMW 2002 isn't the fastest car to drive from the 2nd golden era of motoring (the first was the roaring twenties, then the 1960s-1973, and well...now...but I digress) but it offers a good combination of driveability and classicality...but of which aren't strictly speaking "words"...but the BMW 2002 isn't really an automobile, either.  It's a statement.  Find this 1972 BMW 2002 offered for $7,500 near San Antonio, TX. Tip from FuelTruck.

Grey Market: 1972 BMW 2002 Touring

The BMW 2002 Touring hatchback was sold in Europe starting in 1971 and while it might look like it shares most sheet metal with the standard 2002, but the front windshield is raked back at a steeper angle and uses taller glass all around.  Of the 30,000 Touring models produced (71-74) none were sold new in North America, so you'll need to find an imported version, which usually demand big bucks.  Find this 1972 BMW 2002 Touring offered for $15,500 in Austin, TX via craigslist.

Busted Shifter: 1975 BMW 2002

When it comes to craigslist advertisements, I like to fancy of myself a bit like a shark cruising around in the surf.  When I smell blood, I'll snap my dorsal fin to attention and start the hunt. And nothing screams pelican swimming around with a busted wing in shallow water like a car with shifter that has busted loose from something.  Find this 1975 BMW 2002 offered for $8,000 in Highland Park, CA via craigslist.

Clean Classic: 1975 BMW 2002

For all the people who were upset by the yellow BMW 2002 electric conversion with a high price tag we posted earlier this week, I want to apologize...and the best way to apologize is by posting a sweet and original 2002 with gasoline power.  Find this 1975 BMW 2002 here on eBay bidding for $8,600 with 2 days to go, located in Farmington, MI.

Electric Yellow: 1976 BMW 2002

The BMW 2002 was the spiritual predecessor to BMW's super successful 3-series, but today it is probably better compared to a 1-series or 2-series...although I'm not entirely sure of the difference these days, BMW seems to have subscribed to the "more is better" school of car models. Anyway, a classic BMW 2002 is a cool ride, but does it get better with electricity? Find this 1976 BMW 2002 here on eBay offered for $10.500 buy-it-now or make-offer, located in Seattle, WA.  Tip from Frank.

Merlot & Mincemeat: 1974 BMW 2002

As classic cars escalate in price it is easy to just accept the insane prices and just declare that the new normal is to pay more than $10k for anything that isn't a basket of rust.  But this just isn't the case and affordable classics litter the local classifieds -- you just need to be patient and know where to look.  Find this 1974 BMW 2002 offered for $7000 in Saratoga, CA via craigslist.

Mid Week Match-Up: A BMW For Ben

If you follow the DT Radio show you might have noticed that Producer Ben has a thing about BMWs and his thing is that he dislikes them and belittles anyone who is a fan -- however, he recently had the opportunity to drive an old E28 5-series for a few days and positively loved it.  For this week's Mid Week Match-Up, I'd like you to help find a BMW for Ben for around $5-10k.  Must have manual gearbox, seating for 4, and decent paint.

Tiighten Your Purse Strings: 1974 BMW 2002 Tii

The Tii version of BMW's fabulous 2002 sport sedan only adds a few doodads to the basic 2002, but it almost doubles the value of the vehicle due to supply/demand/rarity...yadda yadda yadda.  So, it is nice to see a 2002Tii offered for around the price of a regular 2002...albeit with some issues.  Find this 1974 BMW 2002 Tii offered for $5,750 in Tri-Cities, WA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.
