Schrödinger's Suburban: 1969 Chevrolet Suburban C20

This next car comes from tipper SecondMouse who writes: Is it for sale, or it's not for sale and you had some time to kill, or what? Here is an interesting 1969 c20 Suburban listed on Craigslist with an equally interesting approach to selling it. The seller says it's not for sale because people will just lowball him, and then says he is looking for a trade, but later suggests you make him an offer if you are a cash buyer.  I could never figure out if the cat was alive or dead either. Maybe you can figure this guy out, here: Find this 1969 Chevrolet Suburban C20 offered for...errr...a trade for something '86 or earlier via craigslist.

Mini Dually: 1988 Chevrolet Suburban

The Chevrolet Suburban is this giant monstrosity of a vehicle that combines the awesome power of gasoline with several tons of steel and turns ordinary housewives into combat ready road warriors, but today's Suburban is a serious freakshow before you get to the drivers. Find this 1988 Chevrolet Suburban custom offered for $5,250 in Humble, TX via craigslist. Tip from Skip.

1999 GMC Suburban SLT 4X4

In the late 20th century if you had a medium sized family (2 kids, wife, mistress) and didn't want the stigma of a minivan, the choice was easy: you got a Suburban Assault Vehicle.  Of the plus sized SUVs that spewed noxious fumes around suburbia there was one that stood out as the choicest cut of car-meat -- GM's Suburban, available as a GMC or a Chevrolet for reasons beyond my understanding.  Find this 1999 GMC Suburban SLT 4X4 offered for $2,500 in St. Paul, MN via craigslist. This post is part of DT's 2016 Birthday Celebration of 100 cars; enjoy the ride!

Seller Submission: The Beast 1986 GMC 2500 Suburban

This next seller submission is from Tim C.who writes:  I've decided to sell the beast. Its just a rusty but trusty old suburban and it'll probably go to some yokel for $1000 but I'd love to see it go to a good home. We only had it for a few years but it was the car I hauled my newborn triplets around in so it has some serious sentimental value. I'd love to fix it back up but I've go no time or money so I thought I'd see if any one here might like it. Would be a great race car hauler, as long as gas stays cheap, it pulled a drag car before I bought it.  Find the beast, a 1986 GMC 2500 Suburban offered for $1400 in Corning, NY via craigslist.

Painted Woodie: 1954 Dodge Coronet Suburban

In 1953 Dodge added a Hemi V8 option to its Coronet sedan (which went on to set dozens of Bonneville speed records) and the following year Dodge celebrated its fortieth year and introduces of a 2-speed powerflite automatic transmission (the first true auto for a Dodge) in the Royal, Coronet, and Meadowbrook line...however, today's car has neither of those features, but is cool nonetheless.  Find this 1954 Dodge Coronet Suburban offered for $14,000 in Morgan Hill, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

Take The Long Road Home: 1970 GMC Suburban Custom

I was just saying to my best friend...okay, that's a lie, I was talking to myself again...anyway, I was just saying the other day that the original 3-door Suburban C10/20 would be a great beast for towing a racecar, but I just wish I could get one with a custom extended pickup bed and 14 wheels. What luck! Find this 1970 GMC Suburban Custom on craigslist located in Alsip, IL. Tip from Matt.

Big Boy Toy: 1970 Chevrolet Suburban Fire Rescue

The 3-door Suburban is one of the better combinations of interior volume, strength, reasonable price and simplicity in a cool package.  You could even drive one of these every day if you own your own oil company or have a short commute. Today's seventh generation C-20 Suburban has a cool paint job and history to go with its inherent utility.  Find this 1970 Chevy Suburban Fire Rescue offered for $8,500 in Hayward, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

10k: Super Sized: 1964 GMC Suburban Custom

The sixth generation Chevrolet/GMC Suburban was sold from 1960 to 1966 as full sized extended length sport utility vehicle. The Suburban name is actually the longest running automobile nameplate in production in the history of the world, with the name first used for the 1935 model year.  Today's example has been modified by Armbruster-Stageway (first established in 1880 in Arkansas to build stage coaches for pioneers heading west) who added a few sets of doors and stretched the wheel base considerably and then opened the top for the ultimate safari/tour vehicle.  Find this 1964 GMC Suburban Custom offered for $9,500 in Marysville, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Chebby.

5k: Winter Soldier: 1990 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 3/4 Ton 4WD

In 1973 with the release of the 3rd generation of third generation Rounded-Line C/R & K/V, the Suburban was let into the wild as a 4-door vehicle.  This was technically the 8th generation of Suburban and it was built for an amazing 19 year production life cycle, only to be replaced in 1992 by the GMT400 based Burb.  Find this 1990 Chevrolet Suburban 3/4 Ton 4WD currently bidding for $2,550 here on eBay with a few hours to go, located in Etters, PA.

15k: Turbo Diesel: 2004 Chevrolet Suburban DMAX Swap

The Duramax V8 turbo diesel engine was built from a joint venture between General Motors on Isuzu starting in 2001.  The DMax is a heavy duty engine and was only available in the H1 Hummer, GMC Sierra/Savanna/Topkick or Chevy Silverado/Kodiak/Express.  It never made it into Chevrolet's Suburban people hauler, but it does fit if you give it the chance.  Find this 2004 Chevrolet Suburban DMAX Swap currently bidding for $14,000 with a few hours to go.

5k: People Carrier: 1962 Chevrolet Suburban Armbruster-Stageway Limousine

The list of vehicles with seating for 18 people that you'd ever want to own is limited.  Used buses, trolleys, and airport shuttles jump to the top of this list, but heavy duty vehicles come with heavy duty repair costs and commercial registration complications.  The next best thing is to pick up a long wheelbase Ford/Chevy/Chrysler full-sized van...but those seem like you've given up on life...instead consider a converted classic limousine with more doors than the Ed Sullivan show.  Find this 1962 Chevrolet Suburban Armbruster-Stageway Limousine currently bidding for $5,231 reserve-not-met on ebay with a 5 days to go, located in Jackson, WY.

5k: Furious Anger: 1970 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburban Wagon

The Quentin Tarantino directed crime film Pulp Fiction includes a fabricated bible quote spoken by Jules Winnfiled (played by Samuel L. Jackson) that features the line: "I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers."  We can't imagine a more fitting car to be driven by Mr L. Jackson than this 1970 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburban Wagon for sale in Libertyville, IL currently bidding on ebay for $6,350 reserve-not-met with less than a day to go.  The hidden headlights just ooze cool and there is plenty of room for Jules and random soon-to-be-dead folks in the back seat.

10k: Avocado Mega-Wagon; 1971 Chevy C/20 Suburban

If you're anything like us here at DT, you are always on the lookout for a cheap, cool workhorse to haul your junk, be it the family, the boat, the Lemons car to the next crapcan race, an engine home from the junkyard you were able to pull just before they closed at dusk...whatever! When it comes to haulers, GM's Suburban is hard to beat for its combination of simplicity, large interior volume, strength, and reasonable prices. This 1971 C/20 Suburban is based on one of the best-looking generations of Chevy truck and seems to be in great shape for the price, even though it is minus one door compared to later versions. Find it here on AutoTrader Classics for $9900 in San Diego, CA. Thanks to AbnMike for the tip! He says "I haven't seen it in person, and if I wasn't jonesin' for a 70s Alfa GTV or 2002tii like a neglected housewife in the 50's needed over the counter amphetamines this would already be parked next to my house."

5k: Long Name, Long SUV: 1974 Chevrolet Suburban Cheyenne Super 20 Trailering Special

In the holiday spirit, Daily Turismo would now like to suggest that you go out and buy a classic truck or SUV immediately...in order to haul all of the crap your wife (or other domestic partner) just bought over to the in-law's house for distribution to various ingrate relatives. There's the great aunt with dementia and her cigar-smoking wisecracking curmudgeon husband, the redneck cousin who shows up in his RV with wife, kids and Rottweiler, the douchebag stylish running-suit-wearing couple next door....wait, that was National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation...it's getting hard to distinguish reality from fiction in our eggnog fueled holiday haze. Regardless, check out this super clean and very reasonably priced family truckster, the interminably named and oh-so '70s Chevrolet Suburban Cheyenne Super 20 Trailering Special! Find it here on ebay in St. Louis, MO with zero bids so far and a reasonable $5k Buy it Now price.
