White & Tan: 1999 Lexus LS400

This next car comes as a tip from Jeff who writes: If it drives as good as it looks, this will dish out many more miles. Only driven about 9,000 a year to date... Yes indeed, this is the case of a seller who has taken some nice photos of a car that is clean. You could probably find better dollars/mile LS sedans all over craigslist...but those ones aren't as sparkly clean. Find this 1999 Lexus LS400 offered for $5999 in Southwest Houston, TX via craigslist.

Manual Swap: 2005 Lexus IS300 SportCross

This next car comes from tipper John who writes: Just stumbled across this, which seems spot on for DT. Maybe these manual swaps are common, but I haven't seen one before even though everyone says they wish Lexus had put a manual in the Sportcross. Find this 2005 Lexus IS300 SportCross offered for $10500 in Brea, CA via craigslist.

Seller Submission: 2001 Lexus IS300 Turbo

This next car is a seller submission from Mason who writes: Unfortunately it is time to sell my car. My wife got a job in another country to I'm trying to get rid of stuff as we prepare to move. I'm a daily lurker on your site and wondered if this was something that fits. Would love for the car to go to a fellow enthusiast.  Find this 2001 Lexus IS300 Turbo offered for $7,500 in Plymouth, MI via craigslist.

5-Speed Wagon: 2002 Lexus IS300 Sportcross

Toyota had been poking at BMW with their Lexus brand since it launched in 1989, but it wasn't until the launch of the IS300 in 1998 that Lexus had finally delivered something that could compete with BMW's lauded 3-series.  Lexus also launched a wagon version that they called the "SportCross" (because Wagon was taken...dunno) and if I recall correctly, it wasn't available with a manual box for the first few years, so this next car is either a custom swap or a real unicorn. Find this 2002 Lexus IS300 Sportcross offered for $6500 in Miami, FL via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Toyota-Benz: 1990 Lexus LS400

No Door Handles- 1997 Lexus SC400 Widebody

You could make the argument that the Lexus SC400 is a Supra in a tuxedo similar to the Lincoln Mark IV and Mustang (written up here a couple weeks ago). It is safe to say that most any car is better or more certainly interesting as a widebody.  However, it's the details, details, and details that make or break a modified car.  Today's SC400 has a nice looking Duraflex wide body kit, but is ultimately let down by a few questionable mods that ultimately leave this one almost there.  Find this 1997 Lexus SC400 for sale in Stamford, CT for $8,000 via craigslist.

Oh What A Feel...Zzzzzzz: 2003 Lexus SC430 Convertible Hardtop

The Lexus SC430 was introduced in 2001 with all of the ingredients to be a resounding success -- a reliable small displacement V8, a double wishbone suspension, rear wheel drive, a folding hardtop and room for two...unfortunately it had all the character of a box of kraft mac & cheese. However, now on the used market, it isn't a bad car for the cash if you aren't someone who wants to tear up apexes or live your life one quarter mile at a time.  Find this 2003 Lexus SC430 offered for $6,500 in New York via craigslist.  From Cory.

DT 5.0 Best High Five: Lifted Junk

There are places around the world where having a lifted 4X4 is functional, useful, and downright essential for daily driving during monsoon season, winter, or Black Friday.  Los Angeles, California is not one of those places...so, naturally, I'm going to focus my search for lifted junk in the city of Angels.

Low Mile Survivor: 1996 Lexus LS400

The 2nd generation XF20 (1994-1997) Lexus LS was everything you'd want in a German executive cruiser, but with Japanese sensibility and reliability.  There was no option for a 5-speed manual gearbox, but it wouldn't ravage your savings in expensive parts repairs or lull you into thinking your car was sporty.  Find this 1996 Lexus LS400 offered for $7,200 near Raleigh, NC via craigslist. Tip from August.

East Eats West: 2007 Lexus LS460L

For decades the best European Q-Ships built came from a company called Mercedes-Benz.  If you wanted something that could hit Warp 10 by the time you finished saying engage or do the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs, you got a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or whatever they were calling it at the time...but times...they have changed. Today, if you want the best European Q-Ship on the planet, you head to your local Lexus dealer and pickup a car built in Japan...or get a used one for eurocents on your yen.  Find this 2007 Lexus LS460L offered for $12,000 in Rio Rancho, NM via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Lexus V6 Powered: 1972 Porsche 914

The Porsche 914 is the classic case of yet another fantastic chassis let down by the detestable Volkswagen type-something-or-other flat-4 engine. Sure, Dubheads will claim but this one has a Porsche head gasket, and the only thing that is from Volkswagen is every single other part...but anyone who has driven a stock one is going to be left thinking..I wonder if that V6 from my wife's Lexus will fit?  Yup.  It does.  Find this 1972 Porsche 914 with Lexus V6 offered for $1,700 in Lake Oswego, OR via craigslist.  HT to Mitch in the LeMons Racer Lounge facebook group.

Lasting Luxury: 1998 Lexus LS400

Six thousand dollars doesn't buy much in terms of a car these days at a dealer lot. The Nissan Versa is the cheapest new car you can get, but it still costs more than $12k out of the door, so will you believe me if I tell you that you can drive a luxurious, reliable, and fast car for about half that price?  Find this 1998 Lexus LS400 offered for $5950 located in Mountain View, CA via craigslist.

Bland Loyalty: 2000 Lexus ES300

The third generation Lexus ES300 was yet another notch on the bedpost in Toyota's march toward global domination.  With a base price of $30k in 1997 the ES was positioned above the most expensive $27k Toyota Avalon, which also used the same Camry chassis.  You might wonder why Toyota would sell two cars with such similar size/cost/MSRP -- but the product planners at corporate figured that they could sell the ES300 to people who wanted the Lexus snob badge but didn't have money and the Avalon to people who had money but didn't want the Lexus snob badge -- and it worked with both cars selling well.  Find this 2000 Lexus ES300 here on eBay bidding for $2,325 with one day to go, located in Ft Lauderdale, FL.

Auction Watch: 2005 Lexus IS300

$3,141.59: π-day: 2001 Lexus LS430

Happy Pi Day to all math nerds out on the web.  Today is a unique Pi Day -- 3.14.16 -- a nicely rounded version of the irrational number that was closely approximated with polygons by the Greek mathematician Archimedes around 250 BC.  Around here we celebrate Pi Day by finding a car priced as close to $3,141.59 as we can get, like this 2001 Lexus LS430 bidding here on eBay for $3,150 with 2 days to go, located in Addison, TX.

Wagon Nation: 2002 Lexus IS300 SportCross

The first generation IS300 was built in Japan from 1998 through 2005 on what was called Toyota's N-platform, which shared many parts in its double wishbone front, multi-link rear, and front-engine rear-drive setup with the Lexus GS, SC, and JDM Chaser, Mark II and Crown.  The IS300 was the sportier of the small Lexus sedans and was available in a cool wagon shape called the SportCross.  Find this 2002 Lexus IS 300 SportCross offered for $7,997 via cars.com, located in St Charles, IL. Tip from Tinyfrogs.

Slambox Shifted: 2008 Lexus IS F

In 2008 Lexus released a sportified version of their BMW-challenging IS compact luxury sedan simply called the IS F.  It was allegedly the byproduct of a skunk works team lead by Yukihiko Yaguchi (known for his work on the Mk IV Supra) and it positively blew the doors off all prior Lexus "sports" cars (such as the oatmeal inspired SC430).  Find this 2008 Lexus IS F here on eBay bidding for $12,000 with 4 days to go, located in Rancho Cordova, CA.
