Hammer Time: 2007 Pontiac Solstice Mallet LS2 V8

There is an old expression about bringing a knife to a gun fight, but I think this next car is closer to the concept of bringing a hammer to a knife fight.  Just don't get bent outta shape if you smash a few fingers with this next beast.  Find this 2007 Pontiac Solstice Mallet LS2 V8 here on eBay bidding for $6,800 reserve-not-met with 5 days to go, located in Mesa, AZ.

The King: 1967 Volkswagen Beetle Type 1

Richard Petty starting driving NASCAR a few weeks after his 21st birthday, way back in 1958 and before they called him "the King" he was known as the "Squirrel".  Petty is most famous for driving full sized Plymouth and Dodge muscle machines, but that didn't stop this next fan from building a CRAZY VW Beetle tribute car. Find this 1967 Volkswagen Beetle Type 1 offered for $7,500 in SF Bay Area, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Hugh.

Taco Tuesday: 1966 Bultaco Matador Mk2

One of the consequences of vehicles becoming so valuable that they become art is that if you used them for their primary purpose, you'd diminish their value.  This bike is beautifully turned out and is probably better than it was when it left Spain over 50 years ago.  However if you were to get it to run and rode it down some single track, you'd probably be out half of the asking price.  Sad, really.   Find this 1966 Bultaco Matador Mk2 Model 16 for sale in Olympia, WA for $7,950 via craigslist.

A What? 1945 Studebaker M29 Weasel

I can't see Tesla building self driving tanks if we went to war with North Korea, but back during "the war" most of the American industrial machine was turned into a war machine and we created things like the M29 Weasel by Studebaker.  Find this 1945 Studebaker M29 Weasel offered for $5000 in Fayetteville, AR via craigslist. Tip from Ryan.

Turkey Fryer: 1987 Mercedes 300TD wagon

As we start our annual countdown to turkey day, I'd like to kick things off with a fresh turkey from craigslist -- yup, a genuine feathered foul that is fresh from the fryer.  Find this 1987 Mercedes 300TD wagon offered for $5,500 in San Jose, CA via craigslist.

What Am I? Eyes Up Here

It is Monday morning, and time to solve the weekly What Am I? puzzle, and today we've got another hunk of metal that you need to identify.

660 Horsepower: 1975 Chevrolet Monza

The Chevrolet Monza was a small 2+2 built on Chevrolet's H-body, which was also the basis for such piles of crap like the Vega, Skylark and Starfire. It was the last of GM's rear-wheel-drive subcompacts and the end of an era for GM's rear drive crap boxes, BUT today's example has a meaty V8 under the hood.  Find this 1975 Chevrolet Monza offered for $8000 in North Branford, CT via craigslist.  From Cory.

In Too Deep: 1991 Mercedes 300E

Have you ever been so utterly fed up with a car that you write a Craigslist ad that is full of information that feels good to get off your chest, but does little to actually sell the car?  Today's seller makes the bold claim that his listing is, "the most honest ad ever." Unfortunately, his idea of honesty is a case of what the kids these days call TMI.  The iconic Mercedes W124 E-class is one of the best engineered cars to ever come out of Stuttgart, but can quickly wear out even a ASE certified mechanic who is not all that familiar with these models and their trouble points.  Find this 1991 Mercedes 300E for sale in Medford, NJ for $3,000 via craigslist.

Buy American: 1991 Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo

The Dodge Stealth was a badge engineered version of the Mitsubishi 3000GT -- imported into the USA around the same time as the Diamond Star Motors imports (Eclipse/Talon/Laser) but the Stealth and 3000GT were both built in Japan.  The only difference between the Mitsu and Dodge version were cosmetic, and personally, I like the looks of the Stealth in Twin Turbo form because of the zany mid-stop rear window wing on the Stealth...but I've been known to enjoy odd cars.  Find this 1991 Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo offered for $8,000 in Cecil, OH via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Sports Car: 1971 Lotus Europa

This next car comes as a tip from Carter who writes: Personally it looks like an offspring of a VW Doka meets a Triumph Spitfire, but being a Lotus, I am sure it has a following. Find this 1971 Lotus Europa offered for $6,000 in Maine via craigslist.

AW11Some: 1985 Toyota MR2

The AW11 Toyota MR2 offers a fantastic combination of mid-engine handling, manual gearbox, and Japanese wedge 80s wedge styling to make it a car that is much cooler than you'd expect given the performance numbers and asking price.  Find this 1985 Toyota MR2 here on eBay bidding for $1481 reserve-not-met with $4000 buy-it-now located in Walnut, CA with 1 day to go.  Seller submission from Rod S.

Master The Road: 1995 Buick Roadmaster Wagon

What could be better for a daily driver and family cruiser than a big V8 powered American wagon with less than 100k miles on the odometer offered for a good price. The Buick Roadmaster Estate may have been a badge engineered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Estate but it added much needed flair to the B-body platform and is the cool old dude's choice for a late model domestic wagon...and this one comes with the later LT1 V8 for more power and torque.  Find this 1995 Buick Roadmaster Wagon offered for $3,000 in Long Island, NY via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Thursday Twister: $1k Solid Gold

Today for the Thursday Twister, I'd like to ask you people what you think is the best car for around 1000 smackeroos.  I will kick things off with two cars from tipper Sean.

Ratto Macchina: 1987 Alfa Romeo Milano Gold

There is something to be said about driving a car that performs like a racehorse but looks like a goat.  You can have your fun on the out on the twisties and park as close as you want tat the supermarket.  The downside might be that look back you do as you walk away from your car.  Find this 1987 Alfa Romeo Milano Gold for sale in Newfield, NY for $2,500 via craigslist.
Tip from tipper Cory.

Race Car? 1971 Fiat 850 Spider

The Fiat 850 Spider was a small 2-sear roadster with a body designed and built by Bertone and mechanical bits from the Fiat 850 sedan. The 850 is pretty slow, even by X1/9 standards, so having a number 11 followed by "HP" is funny.  Very funny.  Find this 1971 Fiat 850 Spider offered for $2,950 in Fairfield, NY via craigslist.  Tip from Cory.

V12, Bangle Butt: 2004 BMW 760Li

This next car comes as a tip from Jeff who writes:  Ya gotta love depreciation... especially when it comes to used BMW / M-B cars. I know, I know... the stories behind the electronics with this engine might actually make late 70's/early 80's model Jaguar owners wince, but I'm a sucker for low mileage, European V-12 rides.... not that I'd be fool enough to own one in my current tax bracket though.  Only a 2-owner car, but the seller (the second owner) has only owned it for four months....... (insert pic of your wallet floating in water with the 'Jaws' theme song playing here). Find this 2004 BMW 760 Li offered for $10,000 in Brenham, TX via craigslist.

WRX Swap: 1995 Subaru Impreza

The first generation Subaru Impreza was released with little fanfare and a low output flat-4 in the US market.  Subaru didn't sell the hopped up WRX version in the North American market, but they did install all-wheel-drive as standard after 1997 and run a turbocharged Subaru 2.5RX at various auto shows to bring some attention to the next generation that got the fast version.  Today's car is a good example of what that car would have been like to drive.  Find this 1995 Subaru Impreza offered for $8,200 in Oxford, OH via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.
