Thursday Twister: Tax Return Car

For this week's Thursday Twister, it is time to start thinking about taxes -- not paying them, but what are you going to do with that juicy return.  According to some article I read on the world wild web, the average US return for the 2015 tax year was $2,860, so that is your budget.  What do you get?

Black Beauty: 1991 Toyota Century VG45L

The Toyota Century survived mostly unchanged for a remarkable 30 year long lifespan (1967-1997) akin to other immortals like the original Daimler DS420, Boeing 747 (born in 1969!!), or Joan Rivers' face.  The bumpers, headlights and other small items evolved as regulations changed, but changes to the front mounted V8 and rear-drive platform were evolutionary at best, but it's probably best to get a one from later years to avoid rust and carburetors.  Find this 1991 Toyota Century offered for $9,900 near Ft Myers, FL via craigslist.

Dat Top: 1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow

The Rolls Royce Silver Shadow was introduced in 1965 and has the remarkable distinction of being the first Rolls to be built with unibody construction.  Rolls built and sold an astonishing 30,057 examples of this ode to opulence before it was replaced with the Silver Spirit after the 1980 model year.  Find this 1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow offered for $6,500 in Rancho Murieta, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Mid Week Match-Up: Not a BMW 335i For Dan

This week's Mid Week Match-Up victim is a friend of DT who asked me to help him find a 2007-2009 BMW 335i.  For the sake of anonymity, let's call him Dan -- his 335i needs to be specifically, a 4 door sedan (consider 2 door coupe, no interest in convertibles) 6 speed manual.  Exterior color preferences: 1) Space Grey 2) Alpine White 3) dark blue (montego?) or black/sliver plain colors could also work. Interior - very much desire the upgraded Napa saddle brown leather! This is much harder to find than the typical black base leather. Price range <$15k but prefer in $10-12k range Mileage prefer under 100k I'd also be interested in the same generation 135i with similar features/colors. So I'd prefer 335 sedan>335 coupe>135 coupe.

I Am The Champ: 1956 Studebaker Champion

Are you a fan of 1950's American cars?  Do you like the styling of the 1957 Chevy, but can't afford the cost of entry?  Do you fancy the colors aqua and teal used together?   Do like your chrome bumpers to be really ornate and made of real metal?  Studebaker is an American automaker that not many people under the age of 50 are too aware of these days as they built their last new car in 1964.  Find this 1956 Studebaker Champion coupe for sale in Guilford, CT for $8,500 via craigslist.

Flathead Power: 1953 Ford F-250 Pickup

There is something timeless and endearing about a classic American pickup.  The owners/drivers don't speed like a black Audi or cut you off accidentally like a Prius -- and the simple sight of these always puts a smile on my face.  I don't have an old round fender pickup in my garage, but if I did, it'd look like this 1953 Ford F-250 Pickup offered for $7,500 in Naples, FL via craigslist.  Tip from Dascpcu.

T For Tempting: 1994 Infiniti Q45T

The first generation Infiniti Q45 packed a surprising amount of performance & technology when it was released into the wild way back in 1990. Competition from ze Germans (BMW/Mercedes, etc) included a lineup on inline-6 engines in cars like the 5/7-series and Mercedes W124 E-Class --but in comparison the Q was indeed Quick. Parent company Nissan was pushing the performance mantra on all ends of the automotive spectrum and the "sporty" image survives to this day. Find this 1994 Infiniti Q45T offered for $3,000 in Decatur, GA via craigslist.

Orange Crush: 1974 Laverda 750SF

The subject of this Taco Tuesday post is giving me a bad case of writers cramp.  I just want to sit in front of the monitor and drool over a classic piece of Italian two wheel design.  They sure got things right during the late 60's and early 70's.  Find this 1974 Laverda 750SF for sale in Vallejo, CA for $17,800 via craigslist.

Another Defunct Magazine Project Car: 1965 Pontiac LeMans GTO Wagon

The builder of this next car must have thought: Why should people without kids have all the fun? Those without a rowdy brood in the nest already have less stress, more sleep, a clean house, and money in the bank --why should they get to have all the fun on wheels too?  Let's build a classic hot rod that can haul ass or stinky ass kids.  Find this 1965 Pontiac GTO Wagon here on eBay bidding for $12,600 reserve-not-met with 5 days to go, located in Mineola, NY.

Baby Got Back: 2009 Alfa Romeo Brera S

There's always been something remarkably forgettable about the Brera. Growing up in the naughties, it should be the defining Alfa of my childhood, but I always think of the last GTV, the predecessor to the Brera, as the Alfa Romeo. On launch, it was decidedly pretty, although I thought its bottom was a little too large - as it happens, the car was also decidedly heavy, weighing up to 1,625kg. Since it is one of the cars I've never cared about, I've never researched it. Until now. Find this 2009 Alfa Romeo Brera S for sale in Rugby, Warwickshire, UK, for £13,500 ($16,900 USD at the time of writing).

Use The Farce: 1980 Ford E250 Van

This next custom built monster is modeled after an imperial troop transport vehicle from some Star Wars extended universe cartoon, but I'd say it looks more like a rolling refrigerator with a few guns mounted up front.  Find this 1980 Ford E250 Van offered for $1,500 in San Leandro, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

What Am I? Underneath

Welcome back to our Monday morning game of cat or mouse -- which is known as What Am I?  Today, you get to take a look at this picture and figure out the subject vehicle.

Auction Watch: 1987 Nissan Be-1

Find this 1987 Nissan Be-1 here on eBay bidding for $5,000 in Cusseta, GA with 2 days to go.

All-Wheel-Driver: 1992 Plymouth Colt Vista

The nastiest thing that can happen when you are biting down into a submarine sandwich is to come out with a mouthful of drain hair -- that is seriously disgusting and probably the reason I don't eat at Subway anymore.  But you know what is the automotive equivalent of a hair-sandwich -- finding an all-wheel-drive manual-transmission vehicle that ends up being a Plymouth Colt.  Find this 1992 Plymouth Colt Vista offered for $2,200 in Montesano, WA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

C'est Cela: 1965 Ford Galaxie

Words by Hunsbloger: C'est cela.. is more like it. You get fully into a project. Your painter bails and you're left with an unassembled car. Find this 1965 Ford Galaxie in Selah, WA where it looks like the owner, faced with putting it back together unpainted just ain't working, so he said c'est cela and put it up for sale of CL and hopes to find a gambler who will trust that its all good, it just needs puttin' together. Tip from FuelTruck.

Row Your Own: 1994 Mercedes E320 Coupe

The facelift (1994-95) Mercedes coupes sold in pretty small numbers so they are a relatively rare find on Craiglist.  Imagine my surprise when cruising the interwebs and this clean example with a proper 5 speed appeared.  I messaged the seller and found out he had in fact done the swap by using a donor 1988 300e 5 speed car.  My buddy is doing a auto to manual swap on a 94 E320 sedan right now and there are a number of small bits that can stop this sort of conversion cold in its tracks.  Find this 1994 Mercedes E320 coupe for sale in Thornton, CO for $4,900 via craigslist.

Seller Submission: 2000 Volvo V70R Sport Wagon

The V70R was Volvo's answer to the question: How do you go really fast with extended family all legally buckled inside?  The third row of seats meant that 7 people could enjoy the exhilaration of a inline-5 pushing boosted power & many torques into all four wheels.  Find this 2000 Volvo V70R Sport Wagon offered for $3,200 in Seattle, WA via craigslist.  Seller submission from Story.

Brown Bomber: 1951 DeSoto Custom Sportsman

As a Gen-Xer, I really don't dig the American car of the 1950's. They don't really do much for me.  But, I think this next one would be really cool as a Rockabilly wreck in primer black with a little bit of red pin striping, white walls and some fuzzy dice.  Sacrilege?   Find this 1951 DeSoto Custom Sportsman for sale on Anderson Island, WA for $10,000 via craigslist.
