Holden My Breath: 2004 Pontiac GTO

Yeah, its beat up.  Sure, it's torn up on the inside.  Yeek, that odo reading is high.  And, of course it has the dreaded slushbox auto...but....dang, you can't beat an LS1 V8 in a sweet pony body that isn't a Camero and this is a lot of car for the money.  Find this 2004 Pontiac GTO offered for $4,000 near Albuquerque, NM via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Son Of A Goat: 1979 Pontiac Grand Le Mans

Looking for a car that no one at your local Cars and Coffee will have?  The Pontiac Le Mans was a obscure and slow selling GM A-body chassis.  Today's example has been given the restomod treatment on the inside and out.  The malaise spec engine was swapped for a much more stout 69 GTO 400 HO V8 and 3.73 posi rear end which should provide plenty of juice to melt the larger than stock 17" tires with any prod of the right foot.  There is not much to fault on the paintwork from the photos and the interior seems equally clean.  Find this 1979 Pontiac Grand Le Mans for sale in Ludlow, MA for $11,000 via craigslist.

Another Defunct Magazine Project Car: 1965 Pontiac LeMans GTO Wagon

The builder of this next car must have thought: Why should people without kids have all the fun? Those without a rowdy brood in the nest already have less stress, more sleep, a clean house, and money in the bank --why should they get to have all the fun on wheels too?  Let's build a classic hot rod that can haul ass or stinky ass kids.  Find this 1965 Pontiac GTO Wagon here on eBay bidding for $12,600 reserve-not-met with 5 days to go, located in Mineola, NY.

No Puffer: 1997 Volvo V90 LS1 swap

What is it exactly that makes a slab sided Volvo wagon with an American V8 so cool? Try to explain to a non-car enthusiast what exactly is so special about a Volvo wagon and you will get a puzzled look or get your sanity questioned. The now famous Paul Newman and David Letterman stories have undoubtedly added to the appeal of this engine swap. Find this very well executed 1997 Volvo V90 with a LS1/T56 swap for sale in Farmington Hills, MI for $11,400. Sellers take note, this is how to write a proper car advertisement.

2006 Pontiac GTO

Australia took the muscle car ball and really ran with it, creating cars that we all lust after but can’t have. And then, as if AFL and poisonous creatures everywhere weren’t enough excitement, they conjured up things like Summernats and Performance Car Mania where engines, gearboxes, and tires get third gear clutch dumped to eventual death in powerskid and burnout competitions. Judged by such metrics as amount of smoke, the manner in which the car flies into the burnout box, number of tire blowouts, and amount of body damage, burnout competitions are essentially automotive hotdog eating competitions in which the best car that gets destroyed the most wins. Get yourself a piece of the Aussie action with this final year 2006 Pontiac GTO on craigslist in Palm City, FL for $10,000. This post is part of DT's 2016 Birthday Celebration of 100 cars; enjoy the ride!

IMSA GTO Champion: 1988 Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo

It never fails...I find an interesting example of a car, write it up...and another, slightly better example, pops up.  The previously featured ST165 generation Celica wasn't a bad example, but it did have aftermarket wheels, a minor engine change, and was NOT one of the rare IMSA GTO Champion versions.  Find this 1988 Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo IMSA GTO Champion version, offered for $4,995 via autotrader.

Nutter Face-Off: 1988 Bentley Mulsanne 675hp V8 vs 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Spyder Kit Car

Another face-off so soon? Didn't DT just do a face-off?  Yes, but those were cars that were remotely affordable and possibly a good deal -- but this next face-off is firmly in the realm of the insane.  With that in mind, what If you had $40k to spend on a used car with a Chevy V8 engine, would you get -- a 1988 Bentley Mulsanne 675 horsepower Supercharged V8 for $39,900...or this 1962 Ferrari GTO kit car offered for $29,900 buy-it-now here on eBay with a few hours to go.

Parts: 2005 Pontiac GTO LS2 Engine/Transmission

Instead of starting with some penalty box slow car and asking you to find an engine/transmission to make it better, let's go the other way around.  Here is a 2005 Pontiac GTO that has been ridden hard and put away wet -- and more importantly it is an engine/transmission that needs a new home found here on eBay offered for $5,200 buy-it-now or make offer, located in Taylor, MI with a few days to go.

15k: GTOrsche: 1972 Porsche 914 V8

You don't need to be a Sith lord to know the universe loves to have things in pairs.   Whenever some blockbuster movie hits the theater there is always a copycat waiting in the wings.  Armageddon and Deep Impact both hit the big screen in 1998, as did Antz and A Bug's Life, and then Mission to Mars and Red Planet in the year 2000, and the list goes on.  Cool cars also seem to come in pairs and with the V8 powered 914 we featured last week we expected another to pop up...of course it did!  Find this 1972 Porsche 914 V8 here on eBay currently bidding for $15,100 reserve-not-met with 3 days to go, located in Phoenix, AZ.

15k: GTO Judge Styled: 1971 Pontiac LeMans Wagon

The Pontiac GTO was an intermediate sized muscle car built on GM's A-platform, available as a coupe, hardtop or convertible.  The ultimate version of the 2nd generation GTO was the optional Judge package, which added a ram air hood to a high power 455 V8 and some gaudy badges.  Unfortunately the GTO was never available as a wagon, but that didn't stop someone from building one.  Find this 1971 Pontiac LeMans Wagon currently bidding for $12,445 reserve-not-met on eBay, located in Los Angeles, CA with 2 days to go.

41 of 50: Sharon: 1966 Pontiac Tempest; GTO Lookalike

The 1st generation Pontiac GTO is an iconic muscle car with prices to match its iconic status.  But it wasn't always a big shot and grew up as the Pontiac Tempest...so thousands of Tempest owners have taken a page from the factory playbook and created their own version. A clone will never be as valuable as the original, but if it looks, smells, and drives as nice as the real deal for 1/10th the price, why not?  Find this 1966 Pontiac Tempest GTO lookalike for sale in Seattle, WA for $12,000.  Tip from Ryan T.

10k: Goat Cloning: 1965 Pontiac Tempest Sedan, GTO Clone

Pontiac never sold a hot-rod 4-door GTO version of their Tempest sedan, but if they had it would look like a lot like this thing.  Find this 1965 Pontiac Tempest sedan for sale in Lawndale, CA currently bidding on ebay for $5,100 reserve-not-met with 5 days to go.  You won't find this cloned goat in the organic foods aisle at Whole Foods, but it has competed in the Targa Cali and a Hot Rod magazine flog test (Hot Rod magazine called it the Grand Turismo Quattroporte) and comes with few spare engines.

20k: Canned Yams: 1977 Pontiac Can Am

Back in the 1970s when DT contributor Hunsbloger dressed like Kurt Russell (from the movie Used Cars?) he drove and sold a number of interesting used cars.  Hunsbloger reports that Pontiac Can-Ams were a tough car to sell at the time because they were an ultra niche..for Pontiac.  They were essentially the same idea as the GTO, but without the cachet of the name and plagued by Pontiac's bad decision to drop the GTO.  Find this 1977 Pontiac Can Am for sale in Lincoln, NE for $22,000 via craigslist.  Thanks to tip from Andy L.

15k: 1973 Pontiac GTO Sport Coupe - 3spd Manual

Many ebay sellers tend to use the tactic of giving less information and hoping the buyers gloss over any deficiencies and just feel happy to get a car that matches his make/model/price requirements.  We don't really like this method as it causes much heartache when the car is finally delivered, or better - when the buyer arrives with cash and still has the option of walking away.  The much better approach is to over-saturate the buyer with photos and information and hope that the person who buys the car does weigh all pros vs. cons and is ultimately happy with the purchase.  Today's feature is an exercise in over-saturation of information and will take a large chunk of your day to read/digest, but it is a 1973 Pontiac GTO Sport Coupe with 3spd manual transmission for sale in Bensalem, PA, currently bidding on ebay for $12,850 with less than one day to go.
