The Maserati BiTurbo was one of the first twin turbo engines produced for mass consumption and could put out a respectable 150 horsepower/liter - on par with your average VW hot rod dreamer numbers. Unfortunately the result was a turbocharger writing checks that the bottom end couldn't cash...and a pile of metal chips that will cost the owner a king's ransom at your local hairy chested gold chain wearing Maserati mechanic. It is cheaper to buy another BiTurbo than attempt even the most basic repairs, so if your current BiTurbo's engine has gone Bi-Bi, we suggest picking up this 1989 Maserati BiTurbo Spyder equipped with 5spd gearbox, located in Sonoma, CA and offered for $9,500 via craigslist. This DT reporter is a child of the 60's, at a time when the VW Beetle was ubiquitous. Almost every family I knew in the
60's had a huge American car and a Beetle as their second car. The first car almost every
one of my friends learned to drive was a bug (so they wouldn't risk totaling the 'nice' car). My first
car was a 1962 Karmann Ghia which I bought from my Driver's Ed
instructor. I also sold VWs from 1976-1980 and have owned many since. Which is why I'm so pleased to point out this seemingly well preserved

The turn signal was first introduced to the public in 1938 in a Buick and described as a "Flash-way directional signal." A few years later Buick added a self canceling feature to the signal stalk and by the 1950s most US states required functioning turn signals on all new cars. It is ironic that Buick introduced the turn signal as most often the offenders of DWS (Driving While Signaling...for miles in a straight line) are Buick drivers...typically those who were...ahem...alive when the first signals were introduced. The Mercedes-Benz W108 is a favorite of the grey-hairs in the Daily Turismo blogging collective. They are cheap, well-built and sweet looking - and we even did an entire write up on the W108 market last week. The only violation of the Daily Turismo requirements is that most of them come equipped with automatic transmissions...and it is rare to find one that might be equipped with a 4 on the floor. The first generation Ford Mustang sold like gangbusters when first released in late 1964. Just into the 2nd year of production, Ford sold its millionth Mustang - phenomenal sales numbers and a percentage of the US market share that entire auto manufacturing conglomerates would only dream about today. The snob in us tends to be dismissive of the lowly and plentiful Coupes for sale, and focuses instead on the racey Fastback, but early Fastback prices are stratospheric and good deals are mostly found in the herds of Coupes for sale on the internet. This 1966 Ford Mustang coupe has a mechanical makeover, but wears a ratty exterior - find it for sale in Oakland, CA for $9,995 starting bid or $11,995 buy-it-now on ebay.
For some unknown reason, the best modified crazy cars for sale on craigslist always have the worst ads. The guy who can weld two front ends of a Volkswagen together into a functional vehicle is unable to capture the entire vehicle in one frame of the disposable camera stolen from his cousins' wedding. This 1971 Volkswagen Siamese Beetle is for sale in Pueblo, CO for $4,000 via craigslist.
