American car manufacturers are most commonly associated with the Malaise era in the late 1970's, but British manufacturers were far from immune to the changes to the safety and pollution regulations of the time. The 1976 Triumph Spitfire had a curb weight of only 1800 lbs, but it's 1500 four cylinder engine weazed out enough horses for a 16 second 0-60 time. The Triumph GT6 coupe straight six engine produced considerably more gusto and made far more pleasing sounds. Today's Spitfire is a bit of a mashup between the two Triumph models. Today's Mid Week Match-Up comes as a request from Jerry who is looking for a convertible: So, my bought when new, 1993 Nissan 240sx convertible (in red, no less) which I've only driven in the winter 3 years since I bought it, and put 289,000 kms on in those years, was recently hit in the rear while I was stopped behind a truck, and of course we were hit hard enough to put lots of tension in the seatbelts, so are slightly the worst for wear, and the car was pushed into/under the rear bumper of the truck in front, so damage front and rear.

In most states in the Union, any two wheeler with 50cc's or smaller can be ridden on the street without special endorsement. (although you might need special bravery pills). Most things under that 50cc limit are either small scooters or things with a set of pedals in addition to an ICE. However for one year in 1982 you could have walked into your friendly Honda dealer and bought something that you wouldn't be embarrassed to ride with a full face helmet. A couple weeks ago the concept of "peak SBC" was presented to the DT audience. While no one is against any sort of V8 swap, the sheer abundance of them on the market allows us all to present all sorts of these cars for you all to separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak. The Mazda rotary engine has a legion of loyal followers, but it is not uncommon to see V8 swapped RX7's in your local CL. The V8 torque seems a worthy trade in place of the 9,000 rpm madness of the rotary engine. Find this 1987 Mazda RX7 for sale in East Haven, CT for $3,500 via craigslist. 
The E34 (1987-1996) was the third generation of BMW's executive class 5-series sedan and it was the first to feature V8 power. The 1980's are thought to be the Golden Age of Rally. Fire breathing Group B cars ran rampant throughout the forests in the early part of the decade, and then tragically it was all over.
