Straight-6 Slushbox: 1963 Ford Falcon Convertible

I'm gonna put my flame suit on and say the following: the V8 and 4-speed is overrated. Every other classic '60s American car that I see running around car shows is powered by a thumping V8 and many have the lauded 4-speed manual. Oooohh...ahhh...pssshaa, meh!  Those hot rod upgraded powertrain combos are great if you plan to go vintage racing or like to head to the drag strip, but most classic cars are just putted around town by old guys, so why not get something that'll get good fuel economy and isn't as common as pimples on a teenager.  Like a straight-6 mated to a..errr..2 or 3...let's just say several speed slushbox. Find this 1963 Ford Falcon Convertible offered for $15000 in Port Orchard, WA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Supercharged Green Machine: 1997 Aston Martin DB7 3.2

Aston Martin is a small boutique British car builder who only built a handful of fast vehicles for the 1%...at least until 1994 when they released the Jaguar inline-6 powered DB7.  At $140k USD it still was an expensive car, but Aston sold a remarkable 7,000 examples and depreciation has worked its magic so that you can afford one today for about the price of a nicely equipped new Civic. Find this 1997 Aston Martin DB7 3.2 here on eBay offered for $26,998 buy-it-now located in Lauderdale Lakes, FL.

How Low Can They Go? 2004 BMW M3 E46

BMWs E36 M3 was the steal of the market until a few years ago when the E46 M3 depreciated to the point where it makes more sense to step up to the 333 horsepower S54 powered beast that replaced the 240 horsepower S52 after the 1999 model year.  Some people might complain about the SMG transmission that you'll find in many of the cheapest examples, but the single clutch automated thing is surprisingly fun to drive, easier in traffic, and can be cheaply converted to self shifted. Find this 2004 BMW M3 E46 offered for $10,800 in Los Gatos, CA via craigslist.

Last of the Manuals: 2011 BMW 535i

Seven years isn't a long time in the life of a car.  I've daily driven cars with twice that age, so to buy a car from 2011 and drive it every day...wow...that sounds like almost new to a guy like me.  The asking price on this one seemed suspiciously low until I checked KBB and verified that a $50k car loses 80% of its original asking price in the first 7 years. Find this 2011 BMW 535i offered for $10,700 in Sacramento, CA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Talk of the Town: 1979 AMC Concord

Do you belong to the segment of the population that wants a car that'll make them blend into the background, or are you one of those who wants a car that'll get you noticed?  If you fall into the latter, but aren't a millionaire, you might think your options are limited...but don't conflate expensive with attention getting with regards to cars, because this next car will get you more looks than the latest Lamborghini Vacagorda.  Find this 1979 AMC Concord offered for $2,300 in Chattanooga, TN via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Moby Dick: 1985 BMW 635CSi

I'm no Nostradamus, but if you want a classic BMW in which to shove your hard earned cash, stay away from the over hyped M cars like the E30 and head over to the shark tank. Find this 1985 BMW 635CSi offered for $7,500 in Nevada City, CA via craigslist.

Axis Built: 1971 Datsun 240Z with BMW M3 Power

I love finding weird stuff on the internet...wait...that doesn't look good now that I've written it down on a piece of paper the screen. I think what I mean to say, is...I like weird cars for sale on the internet.  Yeah....much better.  Weird can span the gamut between a jet powered Fiat to a BMW art car that is completely wrapped in Leslie Nielsen's old underwear...but I try to find something in the middle.  Like this 1971 Datsun 240Z with BMW M3 Power offered for $7000 in Newnan, GA via craigslist.  Tip from Rock On!

Make It A Six: 1969 MG MGC GT

The zippy little MGB roadster was released by British Motor Corp (BMC) in 1962, followed shortly (in 1965) by the MGB GT hatchback/coupe version, but things got even more interesting in 1967 with the launch of the MGC -- an inline-6 version and the MGC GT an inline-6 hatchycoupe version. Find this 1969 MG MGC GT here on eBay bidding for $9,101 with a few hours to go, located in Stowe, VT.

Twin H-Power: 1954 Hudson Hornet

The first generation Hudson Hornet featured a unique step-down (quasi unibody, where the floorpan was sunk down below the main frame rails) chassis that gave the car a low center of gravity that allowed it to dominate early stock car racing. A classic Hornet is well loved, particularly when equipped with the original Twin H-power carbureted inline-6 Find this 1954 Hudson Hornet here on eBay bidding for $18,100 with a few hours to go, located in Apopka, FL.

Jaguar Power: 1942 Plymouth Coupe

With all the Chevy V8 powered Jaguars running around on the streets, it makes you wonder where all of those glorious inline-6s have gone?  Have they all been melted down for recycling?  Maybe, but at least one of them found its way into an old American car.  Find this 1942 Plymouth Coupe with Jag inline-6 offered for $750 in Tumwater, WA via craigslist.

S52 Powered: 1990 BMW 325i

The E30 generation BMW 3-series offers one of the better cost to fun ratios for a compact sport sedan -- but modern cars are so bloody fast that you'll find your classic 5-speed 80s sedan getting schooled at the stop lights by an EV Spark. Obviously the answer is to hot rod it...or buy the other guy's hard work for pennies on the dollar.  Find this 1990 BMW 325i offered for $9000 in Flagstaff, AZ via craigslist.

Twin Engine: 1954 GMC Semi Tractor

This has to be the strangest thing for sale on eBay right now, aside from Chia Pets that look like a human head, those things freak me the heck out.  Anyway, this next feature isn't freaky, but it has two huge inline-6 engines mounted up front.  Find this 1954 GMC Semi Tractor here on eBay bidding for $6,500 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go, located in Spokane, WA.

Mighty Green Car: 1969 MG MGC

The MGC was two year experiment by the British Motor Corporation to inject some additional sportiness into their MGB chassis and replace the retiring Austin-Healey 3000.  For whatever reason it didn't sell well, making it one of the rarer variants from the 18 years of MGB production (1962-1980).  Find this 1969 MGC here on eBay bidding for $8,988 reserve-not-met with 6 days to go located in Ashland, KY.  Tip from Ian.

6 Cylinder: 1962 Ford Falcon Futura

The car shows of the world are overrun with blower equipped hot rods, spitting fire out their tailpipes while being gently driven by elderly owners who have no interest doing burnouts and terrorizing the neighborhood.  So why not skip the fuel bills, and angry looks from neighbors when you wake them up at 6am Saturday morning, and buy a simple inline-6 powered classic.  Like this 1962 Ford Falcon Futura found here on eBay bidding for $4,050 located in Orland, CA (this land is my land, this land is Orland...) with a few hours to go.

Baby Hammer: 1987 Mercedes-Benz 190E AMG 3.2 Liter

Any car guy worth his beans is familiar with the AMG Hammer, which used the big W124 chassis to build a $170k super-sedan that put sports cars to shame.  However, AMG also mixed their secret sauce into the W201 Mercedes-Benz 190 platform and created something known as the Baby Hammer.  Find this 1987 Mercedes Benz 190e AMG 3.2 Liter offered for $11,500 in Fair Oaks, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.
