Banshee Exhaust: 2010 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

If you are in the market for a fast small luxury sedan you probably have seen prices on 10 year old M3s and S4/S5 drop to sub $20k DT range...but wait...there is another Skywalker.  And this one is arguably the most brutal of the group -- it doesn't have all-wheel-drive grip like the Audi or manual gearboxes for carving apexes like the BMW...but it does have gobs of tire shredding torque and thrust like a banshee from the howling 451 horsepower 6.2 liter V8-- but you don't have to believe me, you can read this 2008 magazine article from C&D. Find this 2010 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG offered for $16,500 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

Aged Whine: 2003 Mercedes-Benz C240 Wagon with M113K SuperCharged V8

This next car comes as a tip from Jeff who writes; Slick wagon, assuming you trust the shop that did the work.  I'm not as concerned about the quality of the swapper as I am about the signs of the tin worm from life in the rust belt...is D.C. in the rust belt?  Maybe the proximity to the chief offices of our gubmint causes accelerated oxidation of metal...I dunno....but I do know that I'd love to have a supercharged V8 wagon.  Find this 2003 Mercedes-Benz C240 Wagon with M113K SuperCharged V8 offered for $13000 in Washington, D.C. via craigslist.

Fast Machine: 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG

This next car comes from tipper Jeff who writes: One can only imagine the stratospheric bill that would come with this car *IF* something major ever went wrong, but man, a 600+ hp German twin-turbo V12 sure has a nice ring to it and this one looks absolutely stunning.  Find this 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG offered for $22,900 in Miami, FL via craigslist.

2007 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

If you'd like to get into a 500 factory horsepower hot rod without liquidating your 401k, there are a few options.  You could get a high mile V10 BMW M5, but if you prefer something that is more grunt and two fewer cylinders, the choice is easy...E63 AMG.  Find this 2007 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG offered for $13,500 in South Elgin, IL via craigslist. Tip from Tyler.

Brow Buster: 2003 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG K8 Brabus

The C215 generation CL55 AMG (2000-2006) was a beast of a 2 door coupe that would put a smile on the face of any fun seeking one legged car lover, but the guys at Brabus decided it wasn't fast enough...so they added 50 horsepower, big wheels, and a fancy body kit to build a car that The Truth About Cars described in 2002 with a few simple statements: Overtaking at any speed is so damn quick it inspires the kind of maniacal laughter beloved of comic book villains.  Actually, they were talking about the SL55 AMG K8, but one could assume you'd also find Bane driving this thing.  Find this 2003 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG K8 Brabus offered for $12,999 in Ventura, CA via craigslist. Tip from Sean S.

W124 Hammer: 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E

The W124 was arguably last well built and reliable sedan to come from the mad scientists in Stuttgart with classy styling, interiors built to last, and simplicity in function that in future generations was replaced by a dizzying array of electronic gizmos that constantly fail.  The basic W124 was a good fam/lux sedan, but the 500E version turned up the volume with a 5.0 liter DOHC M119 V8 putting out 325 horsepower into a 4 speed automatic transmission.  The chassis tuning and suspension setup was done by Porsche so the car has a sporty feel to it and drives more like a sports car than luxury sedan.  Find this 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E offered for $17,500 in Sacramento, CA via craigslist.

Cheap Racer- 1998 Mercedes C43 AMG

Who doesn't love cheap fun?  Racing cars and going fast costs real coin, but this is DT where exceptions to the rule are welcome and encouraged!  This 1998 C43 has been stripped of the AMG body kit and has bumpers from a similar year C220 so it looks entirely forgettable.  Speaking of stripped, this C43 also has no interior aside from a race seat so this is not going to work as a Uber/Lyft vehicle.  Under the hood, the 4.3 AMG M113 V8 is good for just over 300 hp when new, but the really hot ticket is to swap in the larger 5.4 350hp version of the same engine.  The car still has the factory AMG suspension set up and massive brakes fitted to these models so it would likely be a competitive if uncommon choice for a budget race car.  Find this 1998 Mercedes C43 for sale in Morris, CT for $1,500 via craigslist.

Almost Mostly Good: 2006 Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG

Mercedes-Benz launched their line of AMG street cars in the 1990s as competition to BMW's M-cars, and they were decent handling sedans with good power.  But in a few years AMG had established itself as the madmen of the luxury sport sedan market and traded handling for tire shredding horsepower.  This next car represents the last of AMG's cars where you could mash the loud pedal without all hell breaking loose...sort of.  Find this 2006 Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG offered for $7000 in New York, NY via craigslist. Muscle Mayhem: 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK 55 AMG

Remember when 2-door muscle cars were cheap?  Yeah.  I do too!  It was a long time ago...but thankfully the muscle car wars of the late 1960s were re-enacted in the early 2000s, so the glory days of cheap muscle is upon us today! Find this 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK 55 AMG offered for $3,500 in Lake Balboa, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Sean S.

Autobahn Crusher: 1999 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG

In the pecking order of German sport sedans for the people who like handling it goes like this: BMW M3, AMG CXX, Audi S4.  For those who like to speed it goes like this AMG CXX, Audi S4, BMW M3.  And finally, for those who like cheap entry price on a used example it goes like this AMG CXX, Audi S4, BMW M3.  Find this 1999 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG offered for $5,500 in White Salmon, OR via craigslist. Just A Flesh Wound: 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG

In 2006 (and 2007) Mercedes-Benz released the first of the M156 V8 powered AMG speed machines including the S63, CL63, ML63, R63, E63, SL63, CLS63, and CLK63.  The new engine was a naturally aspirated 6.2 liter screamer that replaced the supercharged 5.4 liter V8 -- and it more than made up for the lack of torque with a lofty 7200 rpm redline and an exhaust note that sounds like a demon gargling lava stones. Find this 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG offered for $7,995 in Louisville, KY via autotrader.com.  Tip from Jeff.

Pucker Factory Stock: 2008 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG

Way back in 2008 (okay, that wasn't really a long time ago) if you wanted to look like a baller, you would buy a new Mercedes-Benz S-Class.  The basic S550 would set you back $90k before options/tax, but if you wanted to make a bigger statement you'd option for the $127k S63 AMG version (or the $194k S65 AMG)...but oh my, what a difference a decade makes.  Find this 2008 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG here on eBay offered for $26,995 buy-it-now or make-offer, located in Chantilly, VA.

Fast Coupe: 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG

An updated version of the CLK-Class hardtop coupe (and cabriolet) was released in 2004 with the C209 designation, and sharing mechanical bits with the W203 C-Class.  The base model used a 3.2 liter V6, but if you had a need for speed the upgrade to the AMG powered 5.4 liter V8 was available for a lot more money than the entire car is worth today.  Find this 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG offered for $5,400 in SF Bay Area, CA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG

In the mid 1990s most people were still driving slow cars and anything that hit 60mph in less than 8 seconds (or so) was considered pretty quick.  Naturally, a Mercedes-Benz sedan that could hit 60mph in 5.8 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph was a bit of a surprise, but in 1995 Mercedes-Benz introduced their first C-Class performance model and the first AMG badged street car in one 4-door package-- the C36 AMG.  Find this 1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG offered for $5,300 in San Diego, CA via craigslist. This post is part of DT's 2016 Birthday Celebration of 100 cars; enjoy the ride!

Sportlich Leicht Kurz: 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG

For the 2005 model year Mercedes-Benz began production of the R171 generation SLK-Class roadster to replace the aging R170 (1997-2004) version.  The new version gave the world the first look at Mercedes new single headlight look, abandoning years of the 4-eye vestigial pontoon styling.  The pointy nose was inspired by contemporary Formula 1 cars and designed by Steve Mattin, but it looks good.  Find this 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG offered for $17,499 in San Francisco, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Woiperdinger Estate: 2007 Mercedes E63 AMG Wagon

The CLK63 AMG we posted yesterday was certainly one of the least common AMG built cars to arrive on these shores with numbers in the low triple digits per year -- but this next car was imported in the double digits for the 2007-2009 model years.  The CLK63 may have been a unicorn, but the E63 AMG wagon is a real woiperdinger. Find this 2007 Mercedes E63 AMG Estate Wagon here on eBay offered for $25,300 buy-it-now or make-offer located in Tampa, FL.
