1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG

In the mid 1990s most people were still driving slow cars and anything that hit 60mph in less than 8 seconds (or so) was considered pretty quick.  Naturally, a Mercedes-Benz sedan that could hit 60mph in 5.8 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph was a bit of a surprise, but in 1995 Mercedes-Benz introduced their first C-Class performance model and the first AMG badged street car in one 4-door package-- the C36 AMG.  Find this 1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG offered for $5,300 in San Diego, CA via craigslist. This post is part of DT's 2016 Birthday Celebration of 100 cars; enjoy the ride!

Cheap AMG Faceoff: 1996 C36 AMG vs 1999 C43 AMG

AMG -- three letters that strike fear in the heart of sport-luxury sedan owners -- fear in the heart of the competition by being blisteringly fast in a straight line, and fear in their owners wallets because they are notoriously complex and expensive to repair.  However, that combination of speed and cost-of-ownership is a wonderful recipe for a cheap (entry to market) luxury sedans.  Today we've got a face-off of Mercedes-Benz W202 C-class speeders -- a 1996 C36 AMG vs 1999 C43 AMG.  Both are tips from FuelTruck.

4k: OG AMG: 1995 Mercedes C36 AMG

The first AMG Americans could buy from a Mercedes-Benz dealership was a joint project between both companies, although production was completed before Mercedes took 51-percent ownership. With a bored and stroked 3.6-liter DOHC 24-valve inline six, a Bose surround sound system, brakes from a V12 SL600, and a tight suspension, it set the standard for MB performance in a reserved, sophisticated package. It also set the standard for depreciating AMG products; costing $50,000 in 1995 dollars, most examples can be cross-shopped today with 100k-mile Hyundais. Find this 1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG for sale in Farmingville, NY for $3,500 via craigslist.
