Ford GT-40 Replica: 1969 FT Bonito Kit Car by Fiberfab

The world of GT-40 replicars runs the gambit from atrocity to travesty, but in this next car we might have found a bit of a gem.  The FT Bonito was sold as a kit by Fiberfab and sold mostly in Germany and the Netherlands according to various furrin language websites. 7.2 Big Block: 1968 Plymouth Fury III

Solstice Drivetrain: 1976 Cosworth Vega

In 1970 GM's General Manager John Z. DeLorean directed his engineering staff the develop a high performance 4-cylinder engine for the compact Vega chassis.  Within a few years a combination of GM's alloy block and a Cosworth Engineering designed head was mounted into a Chevy Vega that cost nearly as much as new Corvette.  The Cosworth Vega was hand built on a special assembly line in a limited run of 4000 machines (the original plan was 4000, but , but today's example is missing the one piece that made the car special...does it still make the cut? Find this 1987 Mercedes 420 SEL in Minneapolis, MN bid to $228 as of 7/8/18 ending on Tuesday.  This German expression of the 1980's is in need of some TLC as it now appears like a patient on those reality shows for people who have had too much plastic surgery.  Bonus Craiglist listing is provided below for the unobtainium super wide BBS wheels to fill out those fender arches.

Lots Of Engine: 1993 Chevy Corvette 383

If you like the 1980's styling of the C4 Corvette, the later 1992+ cars are appealing because of the more powerful LT1 engines and nicer interiors.  The LT1 V8's don't get a ton of love now nowadays because of the LS series of engines, but they are still capable of putting down respectable amount of horsepower.  A stock 93 Vette is a quick car, but today's feature should seriously move out as it has been enhanced in good ways.  The best part of the C4's is the amount of dollars needed to enjoy this level of thrust.  Find this 1993 Chevy Corvette for sale in Tucker, GA for $7,400 via craigslist.

Joe Dirt: 1985 Ford LTD LS1

In 1983-1986, the Ford LTD nameplate made its last hurrah on the fox body platform as a sedan and wagon.   The sedan weighed in at a relatively svelte curb weight of 3000 lbs.  Ford made a performance LX version of the car that came fitted with an uprated suspension and 5.0 V8.  Today's car takes the LX model idea ten times further.  A LS1 GM V8 from a F-body Camaro is now powering the car along with a built 4L60e auto trans.  The rest of the build has some custom touches and looks to be very well thought out.  Aside from the super dark tints, everything is done very discreetly.  Find this 1985 Ford LTD for sale in Macon, GA for $7,500 via craigslist.

Kellison Sandpiper: 1977 Volkswagen Dune Buggy

For the most part, cars from the mid 1970s are terrible things -- the fuel crisis and tightening emissions standards curbed any street legal fun, and the safety nazis made sure that cars were properly ugly and anything but fun to drive. But there is only so much you can do to crush the spirit of car lovers and there is always a will and a way. So from the ashes of the Malaise era came from the custom dune buggy movement, which took old slow VW bugs and turned them into fun to drive beach cruisers...just don't expect to cruise on any beaches because that was outlawed a long time ago. What's The Catch?: 2003 BMW M5

Probably all DT readers would love to have the funds to buy high performance machine like a BMW M5, but this usually requires a serious sum of coin which everyone does not have. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled on a future classic E39 chassis BMW M5 for under $10K. On first glance, the car appears to be pretty clean with no obvious signs of modification or neglect. Barely Broken In: 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV6

If you were looking for a 1980's euro car that will not cost you an arm and leg (E30, 911, 190E 16V), the Alfa Romeo GTV6 is a solid choice.  In the age of Dodge Demons, it sounds strange to say a 160 hp car is more than enough to have a good time.  Michael Jordan of Automobile Magazine once said, "if you can't go fast with 90 hp, 900 won't help you".  The Alfa Busso V6 has a reputation for having the most glorious note this side of a Ferrari.  The 116 Alfa Romeo has a very unique double wishbone suspension with a De Dion tube in the rear.  Today's GTV6 only shows 31,000 miles on the odometer so it should be free of the typical woes of crunchy synchros and rusty sheet metal.  Find this 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV6 for sale in Newburgh, NY for $5,800 via craigslist.

Something Different: 1989 Peugeot Mi16

Are looking for the last high performance French car imported to the US?  Probably not, but the Mi16 by Peugeot was supposed to be a hell of a car never mind that it looks awfully similar to a first generation Infinity G20 (which can also be bought for chump change).  The Mi16 had a lusty 150 hp 1.9 engine and supposed great handling manners.  Peugeot only sold about 5,000 units of this model from 1989-1991 and today's feature is not exactly in mint shape.  Find this 1989 Peugeot Mi16 for sale in Clinton, CT for $1,400 via craigslist.

No Track Mode: 1984 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

Back in 1984, Cadillac was not trying to ape German car makers to make the fastest sedan to run the Nurburgring.  They primarily focused on making large cars that got middling better gas mileage than the parade floats of the 1970's.  No one would mistake a Coupe DeVille for an Audi or BMW back in these days.  Today's feature has a late model LT1 engine swap though the seller here is optimistically thinking this 5.7 came from a Vette as the engine cover looks like it was from a late model Fleetwood/Roadmonster/Caprice.  Either way, the current engine provides significantly more motivation than the stock unit.  Find this 1984 Cadillac Coupe DeVille for sale in Columbus, OH for $5,500 via craigslist.
