Barely Broken In: 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV6

If you were looking for a 1980's euro car that will not cost you an arm and leg (E30, 911, 190E 16V), the Alfa Romeo GTV6 is a solid choice.  In the age of Dodge Demons, it sounds strange to say a 160 hp car is more than enough to have a good time.  Michael Jordan of Automobile Magazine once said, "if you can't go fast with 90 hp, 900 won't help you".  The Alfa Busso V6 has a reputation for having the most glorious note this side of a Ferrari.  The 116 Alfa Romeo has a very unique double wishbone suspension with a De Dion tube in the rear.  Today's GTV6 only shows 31,000 miles on the odometer so it should be free of the typical woes of crunchy synchros and rusty sheet metal.  Find this 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV6 for sale in Newburgh, NY for $5,800 via craigslist.

Bang For The Lira- 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6 3.0

The Alfa GTV6 is one of the more curious cars from the 1980s that seems to be off the radar of collectors who are throwing buckets of cash at 911s and E30 M3s right now. Unlike the only a mother could love styled Milano sedan, the GTV6 was a handsome Giorgetto Giugiaro designed hatchback. It came equipped with the oh so lovely sounding Busso 2.5 SOHC V6 engine. The 2.5 engine was good for 160 hp which was decent for the time, but was much better known for the symphony of music it produced. Today's car has plucked a 3.0 engine from a Milano Verde into its engine bay which should be good for at least a 28 hp increase over stock.  Find this 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6 for sale in Queens, NY for $6,500 via craigslist.

10k: GTV6 Powered: 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta

The Alfa Romeo Alfetta (tipo 116) was released in 1972 as a replacement for the Giulia based 1750 Berlina, even though a slightly larger sedan with the Berlina name (the 2000) was produced concurrently with the Alfetta.  Although Giuseppe Scarnati designed the original Giulia sedan, and the 1750 Berlina was a Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone design, the Alfetta fell back into Scarnati's lap and he created something much more modern looking that bares a strikingly resemblance to the E12 BMW 5-series.  TL;DR version: A bunch of Italian guys designed some cars.  Find this 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta with GTV6 power offered for $9,700 in Kenmore, WA via craigslist.  Tip from Gianni

10k: Almost A Quadrifoglio: 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV6 Callaway Twin Turbo

 Use of the Quadrifoglio (four leaf clover) on an Alfa Romeo started on racing cars in the 1920s, but modern examples (such as 164, and Spider) use the emblem to denote a high end version of a particular car.  The Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT (& GTV6 coupe) was a 2-door Giorgetto Giugiaro penned version of the  Giuseppe Scarnati Alfetta Sedan (Type 116).  The GT version went from 4-cylinder power to a standard V6 in 1981 and the name GTV6 has sort of stuck with that coupe body style.  The last GTV6 we featured was offered for $12,500 and folks in the comments called it a crack-pipe price, perhaps they will be nicer to this 1/2 price example?  Find this 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV6 offered for $6,500 in Pomona, CA via craigslist.
