Italian Week: 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000

I've loved the idea of owning an Alfa GTV for...I dunno...as long as I can remember driving or riding in cars. Fortunately, or unfortunately, they have been affordable over the years and I've not pulled the trigger, probably because I assumed they would always be affordable. Unfortunately, or fortunately, recent market activity has brought considerable price inflation to the price of most classic cars, particularly handsome Italian models, so if you want a GTV, you might need to settle for something with a gash or two on the side. Find this 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 offered for $15,000 in El Cerrito, CA via craigslist. Tip from Erik202.

Take My Lira Now: 1979 Alfa Romeo GTV Velocissima Twin Spark Swap

Alfa Romeo 116 series four cylinder car values have languished for a long, long time.  Rust, notchy gear boxes, and tepid performance have sent many potential Alfa buyers over to the later GTV6 models as they generally are a more fun and compelling car to own.  Today's feature car turns that notion on its head with it's tidy condition, being a rare model, awesome alloy wheels, mint interior (with the good dash layout), and later model twin spark engine swap.  The euro twin spark four cylinder engine at 146hp is good for almost 50% more power than the stock spica injected engine and should make this car hustle in modern traffic.  Find this 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV  for sale in Stonington, CT for $15,000 via craigslist.

Front Drive Classic: 1998 Alfa Romeo GTV

The 916-series Alfa Romeo GTV (and Spider) was a modern remake of the classic Alfa Grand Turismo Veloce -- complete with a front-engine front-wheel drive setup and biodegradable plastic bits-- but it featured Pininfarina styling and wasn't available in the USA...so I still really want one.  Find this 1998 Alfa Romeo GTV offered for $8490 in Fraser Valley, BC, Canada.   Tip from JB1025.

Sunday Classic: 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000

It seems like it was only yesterday when a decent running/driving Alfa Romeo GTV was just a bit over $10k, but the inevitable march of Father Time means we are one step closer to the grave and one buck farther away from owning a GTV.  Find this 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 offered for $20,000 in San Francisco, CA via craigslist. No Tme: 1971 Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce

Back about 25 years ago when I bought my GTV, they were cool, old interesting cars you could pick up for not much money. Now GTV's seem to be following the air-cooled 911 into terra expensiva. That's great if you are a hedge fund manager, but for the rest of us, if we want to make our GTV dreams a reality, we will need to bring a little sweat equity.  Find this 1971 Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce for sale in Pacifica, CA for $7,000 via craigslist.

Italian Style: 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV6

Cars from the mid eighties continue to be a sweet-spot for a combination of speed and style at a bargain prices and the Giorgetto Giugiaro designed Alfa Romeo GTV is a perfect example of that paradigm.  Find this 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV6 offered for $6,200 in Poway, CA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Little Alfa: 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 2.0

Chances are I will never own an Italian car, and I'm not really sure my grass roots mechanical abilities would afford me the skill to maintain such a beast.  If I did consider wading into the world of Rosso Corsa, I would want to cut my teeth on something less recognizable and forgiving of my mechanical malaise. That way, I could make a complete mess of it and no one would be the wiser.  Find this 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 2.0  near Los Angeles, CA for $4,500 via craigslist.

Ivy League: 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce

Back when I was 25, I was 4 years out of college, living in a one bedroom rented condo in a soon to be gentrified neighborhood.  In 1963, when Giorgetto Giugiaro was 25, he was working at the design house of Bertone in Torino, and created his first major design, the Alfa Romeo Sprint GT/GTV.  His iconic design will live on far into the future after he is gone.  I can't say that any of the TPS Reports I created will do the same.  Find this 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV for sale in Long Beach, CA for $20,000 via craigslist.

Volpe Pollice: 2004 Alfa Romeo Spider Lusso

The Alfa Romeo GTV and Spider we re-launched in 1995 on a modified version of the Fiat tipo due (type 2) platform (also found under the Fiat Brava/Bravo/Marea/Multipla) and borrowed suspension from the Alfa 155.  Styling was done by Enrico Fumia at Pininfarina which resulted in a design gorgeous and sexy, but not without questionable elements that remind me of Megan Fox's thumbs.  Find this 2004 Alfa Romeo Spider Lusso offered for $15,999 in Boston, MA via craigslist.

20k: Show Me The Goods! 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV Turbo

Pro tip of the day:  If you have an Alfa Romeo GTV tipo 105 and you want to sell it, pictures are great. Multiple pictures.  Five is a good starting point.  However, if that GTV has a turbocharged engine that shoots fire and pushes 300 horsepower at 8000 rpm into its rear tires...for the love of Berlusconi, you need to include at least one underhood picture.  Find this 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV Turbo offered for $25,000 in Los Angeles, CA via craiglist..  Tip from Sean S.

5k: Mozzarella: 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV

The Alfetta GTV lives somewhere in the grey zone between the appreciating classic tipo 105 GTV and still depreciating Alfa Romeo 90 & 164 sedans.  The Giorgetto Giugiaro designed Alfetta GTV manages to avoid the questionable styling (i.e. ugly) that covered many cars during the early 1970s and is also a great driver's car. What more can you ask for in a cheap modern classic?  Rock solid reliability...meh...you don't need that!  Find this 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV offered here on craigslist for $4,750 in Moreland, GA.  Tip from PB.

15k: Seller Submission: 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV

The Alfa Romeo GTV (105 series) is a regular feature on this website because it offers exclusivity and vintage driving experience that is almost unmatched in the new econobox MSRP price range.  The 1971-76 GTV, with its iconic twin headlights, is the design work of Giorgetto Giugiaro of the Bertone and features curves that belong in a museum...or my garage.  Find this 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV offered for $18,000 in Athens, GA via craigslist.  Seller submission from Bob.

10k: Truth In Advertising: 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV

"You ARE buying a car that was crap when it was new, further degraded by the previous owner and then finally had the last nail driven into its coffin by me. I consider this car a piece of JUNK. Buy this car and you too can continue the mistake I made. Priced very low with no reserve."  These are the words from the seller of today's next feature and the epitome of truth in advertising taken a bridge too far.  Find this 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV currently bidding for $7,600 with 3 days to go on ebay, located in Wisconsin.  Tip from Gianni.

G is For Gorgeous: 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000

G is for the good times you will have owning an Alfa Romeo GTV.  G is also for the grease stains it'll leave on the driveway. G is the for grace that will follow you each time you drive the GTV to the grocery store. Even with a few dings and dents the Alfa Romeo GTV is a beauty...like Kate Upton on a bad hair day...still easy on the eyes.  You wouldn't kick this Alfa out of your garage for dripping oil on the ground any more than you would kick Kate out of bed for eating crackers.  Find this 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 currently bidding for $12,500 with 2 days to go, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Reader Ride: Gianni's Turismo Veloce

Time for another edition of DT's Reader Ride feature, which keeps coming back like a bad case of scabies.  This next feature comes from reader Gianni who has had the pleasure of owning this Alfa Romeo GTV for 22 years.  That is a long time to be steward of such a machine and if he ever feels the need to free himself of this considerable burden, we'd be happy to help.
