Tip and words from DT Contributor Andy L.  Here is an example of an awesome car that is getting rarer by the day, especially with mileage this low. Clean retail book for this car is $13000, but I don't think it applies to this car.  If you want to be one of the last remaining clown shoe jockeys, you are going to pay a premium.  Find this 1999 BMW M Coupe offered for $28,000 in Lincoln, NE via craigslist. The DTO (Daily Turismo Omologato) is a rare or interesting example of a DT-friendly classic or performance vehicle, but priced somewhere above the self imposed DT cap of $20k.

Named after an Italian town and originally intended to bear a Wankel rotary by NSU, a German company, the Chevrolet Monza isn't the American car you expect to see in an Evel Knievel jumpsuit. Yet here it is adorned in stickers and polyurethane aero bits comprising the rare (and very American-themed) Mirage appearance package. Built during a time when it wasn't in vogue to sport the typically American formula of "big engine in front, big smokey burnout in the back," celebrating the Monza Mirage today is paradoxically patriotic. Mid Week Match-Up: Moon Rover

The Lunar Rover was a battery-powered two person vehicle used on the Moon for a number of missions during the era of the Apollo program.  While planet bound humans driving flat-6 powered Corvairs back on planet earth, astronauts were plodding around at a few miles per hour -- probably faster than a powerglide equipped 'Vair.  In retrospect, the Lunar Rover was a terrible vehicle for celestial exploration, because a range of 15 miles and top speed of around 5mph is no way to cruise on a giant ball of cheese.  If launch weight was not an issue -- what vehicle would you use for extraterrestrial exploration?

The C303 was the successor to the older C202 Laplander and had a distinguished military career of keeping moose safe in Scandinavia.  It makes the list of top ten unlikely motorsports icons; the C303 was victorious in the light truck class at the 1983 Paris Dakar Rally, but today's version is ready for some weekend camping.  Find this 1975 Volvo TGB11 offered for $9,200 in SF Bay Area, CA via craigslist.

The Volkswagen Type 181 Thing was a stripped down vehicle used for West German military use as a temporary solution while the Europa Jeep was being developed.  Of course, the Europa Jeep (a 1960s NATO project for a Jeep style vehicle) never made it into production, and the 181 filled in nicely -- eventually it was offered for civilian use around the globe.  Find this 1973 Volkswagen Thing offered here on eBay, currently bidding for $6,501 with 1 day to go, located in Kenvil, NJ.
