DT Maintenance: Problems with images

5k: 1971 Toyota Corolla with Rotary Engine

The second generation Toyota Corolla (E20) is an example of a cheap/fun/rear wheel drive vehicle that used to come from the maker of beige appliances.  The two door  TE-21 'peanut' shaped sedan was available with a number of low displacement 4 cylinder engines - but the owner of this 1971 Toyota Corolla installed a Mazda rotary engine and is selling it on ebay (currently no bids, min bid $4800, located in San Juan Capistrano, CA).

5k: 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230 Fintail Hechflosse

We at the DT love classic 60s/70s/80s Mercedes cars for good looks, rock solid build quality (before the marketing weenies in the unholy Daimler-Chrysler years took over and forced engineering to compromise quality in an exchange for wild dreams of market share) and they are rarely seen in the wild.  The 4 door W110 sedans are a bargain today and we originally we had our eye on a 67 MBZ 200 on ebay (bidding at $1425 reserved not met)- but then we found this 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230 Hechflosse on craigslist for $3950 located in SF Bay Area, CA.

15k: 1974 BMW 2002 Baur Targa

 The BMW 2002 produced from 1968 to 1976 was available in coupe and touring (hatchback) versions and sold quite well across the world.  It solidified BMWs reputation for building compact sports sedans and paved the way for the extremely successful 3-series - but it was never available as a convertible from the factory.  That didn't stop the hacksaw wielding maniacs at Karosserie Baur from building a targa version and this 1974 Baur Targa is offered on ebay for $15k buy-it-now in Marietta, GA.

 

10k: 1990 240SX with LS1 V8

 The previous Nissan 240sx with a V8 engine swap featured on daily turismo was a bit of a hack job.  However - the Nissan S13 platform is well known for being durable and the stock truck based KA24 engine is often ditched for something more powerful.  This 1990 240sx has an LS1 V8 swap and is offered for $11k in Weld, ME via craigslist.

10k: 1999 BMW Z3 Coupe

Another shooting brake? Surely we must be joking! In the immortal words of Leslie Nielsen, "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley." This marks the second coupe/wagon mash-up we have featured on Daily Turismo thus far. On the other hand, it's our 8th BMW - trust us, we're not pricks - they just happen to provide a great mix of balanced chassis dynamics and woeful depreciation. Today's victim is this 1999 Z3 Coupe (not the M Coupe!) currently up on ebay in Seattle, WA for $10,900, "Buy it Now" price.

5k: 1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo

The second generation Mazda RX-7 debuted in 1986 with new streamlined styling and more power from the available Wankel rotary engines.  For the first time in the US market, a turbocharged version was available and this 1987 Mazda RX-7 turbo located in Summit Point, WV looks to be a good example for $5,295 buy-it-now on ebay.

DT Success Story - Thorsday Throwdown!

"It's mine!  Mine, I tell you!" is the triumphant post title on 24hoursoflemons.com forums.

24Hours of LeMons forum paddock rat "doctordel" purchased the 1973 Volvo 1800ES that was highlighted on the Thorsday listing from last week - a listing that made DT history with the most number of visitor views.

15k: 1973 Moretti 128

Casual mention of the name Moretti conjures images of bar rooms and hop infused beverages - not open air motoring.  Fortunately for petrol lovers the Moretti we are discussing today is a Turin based coach builder.  This 1973 Moretti 128 uses Fiat mechanicals and is for sale in Villeneuve, Switzerland for ebay buy-it-now price of $17,000 USD.

 

5k: 1969 AMC Ambassador...NASCAR?

AMC offers an alternative to the Ford/Chevy/Dodge muscle cars from the late 60s - but its sort of the Battlestar Galactica alternative to Star Wars or Star Trek - there are always a few at a gathering - but you're never sure if you want to strike up a conversation and you don't know what you'd talk about.  This 1969 AMC Ambassador has been given a full NASCAR makeover by its owner in Leighton, PA and bidding on ebay is currently at $2,370 (big thanks to tip from dt reader Scot).

5k: 1992 Lexus SC400

By the early 1990s Toyota had solidified its position as a builder of reliable economy cars, but it was still working on breaking into the luxury car market with its Lexus brand.  In 1991 Lexus introduced the SC; a sporty 2+2 coupe to compete with Mercedes SL & BMW 8-series.  This 1992 SC400 is located in Franklin, IN and offered for the bargain price of $2500 via craigslist.

5k: 1989 Merkur XR4Ti w/ V8 swap

A few weeks ago the daily turismo featured a relatively stock & clean Merkur XR4Ti - normally we wouldn't feature another of this obscure mark for some time...unless we stumble upon an example that is...noteworthy.  Fortunately for Merkurites everywhere - this 1989 XR4Ti  for sale on ebay for $1325 (reserve not met) and located in Barberton, OH.  Unfortunately for purists - it is straight from Mary Shelley's gothic novel --powered by a Chevy engine, Toyota rear end, VW bumpers, and a BMW dash...et cetera...

5k: 1971 Volvo 142S - Mustard Bil

Sadly, our first Volvo Thorsday has come and gone. That does not by any means prevent us from posting Volvos on Friday, and every other day too. These cars are just so simple and honest, not to mention usually manual and RWD, which makes them so refreshing to drive and own. Today's lucky brick is one of the first boxy Volvos, this 1971 142S  for sale on ebay in Manitowoc, WI with bidding under $2000, no reserve, and less than a day left!

5k: 1982 Lancia Beta Zagato -Rally Tribute

Do you dream of driving the Monte Carlo rally whilst sitting on the 405 Freeway. Do you want the thrill of 1980s Italian reliability mixed with open air motoring but find the Alfa Spyder too common?  If you've answered yes to some or all of the above questions -please seek immediate psychiatric care or buy this 1984 Lancia Beta Zagato - available via craigslist for $6500 in Sherman Oaks, CA (big thanks to dt reader Jenny  for the tip)

 

10k: 1964 Chevy Corvair Vintage Racer

Vintage racing can be very expensive - its a playground for big bucks comedians and retired rock & rollers.  The price tags for vintage race cars is often more than us 'working folks' make in a year - but not on daily turismo.  This 1964 Chevy Corvair is for sale on ebay for a buy-it-now price of $9500 and has actually been sold at least once in the past year and highlighted by Bringatrailer. 

10k: 1989 BMW 325i

 The second generation (e30) BMW 3-series was sold in various forms from 1982 through 1993.  Once a yuppy status symbol and always a benchmark in handling, the e30 was available with a number of inline 4 and 6 cylinder gasoline engines - all silky smooth and mated to a light & rigid chassis with rack and pinion steering.  The only complaint about e30s you can make is that the non-M cars are a bit slow and the M3s are quite costly in todays market.  A basic 325, however, is a fantastic car for the price of the nav system in a new 335i.  Add a more powerful engine, like the seller of this 1989 325i located in Miami, and you have quite a performance bargain for $5k (on ebay at $4550 as of 8/1/12).

5k: 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon - Hellaflush Edition

Here we have a study in comparing and contrasting. When compared to Tuesday's WRX wagon, this 2002 example started its life very similarly, albeit 5 years earlier. The two AWD turbo black Subies have taken very different paths though - one lives a pampered garage with every speck of dust being promptly removed, the other...it's hella STANCED OUT, YO! For less than half the price of Tuesday's example, check out this 2002 Subaru WRX wagon in Long Beach, CA (maybe?) for $7000 OBO, via craigslist.

15k: 1973 Volvo 1800ES

Time to introduce a new feature to Daily Turismo: Volvo Thorsday! No, we didn't forget to spell-check...that's Thorsday, as in the Norse God of Strength and Fertility himself, for whom Thursday was named. Why Volvo? Because any super-strong hammer wielding Scandanavian deity appreciates seeing a  Göteborg-native Swede being featured on his "special day." Thor demands sacrifice, and our first victim is the perfect chariot for the bearded Sire of Thunder: this clean, lowered, and alleged mostly original 1973 Volvo 1800ES being offered for $12,500 in Sherman Oaks, CA.

10k: 1964 Ford Falcon 'Vert

Ford Falcons (and Falcon based cars) have been featured on the daily tusimo in the past - but this time we are bringing a convertible.  Cheaper than an equivalent Mustang - the Falcon is still a desired car with excellent aftermarket support.  This 1964 Ford Falcon convertible is offered for sale on ebay for $11,000 and is located in Poway, CA.

5k: 1988 Nissan 200SX

 The Nissan Silvia S12 generation was sold in the US from 1984 to 1988 badged as the 200SX.  It looked like a typical Japanese econobox, but it had some of the right stuff: rear wheel drive, available turbo engines and manual transmissions.  This 1988 Nissan 200SX is offered on craiglist for $2650 in Greenfield, IN.

5k: 1969 Karmann Ghia Electric Project

When this car first hit daily turismo's radar last week, it was closer to the 10k range - but the listing expired and now its been dropped a few grand and is ripe for picking.  The Karmann Ghia was sold from 1955-1974 using VW Beetle Type 1 chassis/engine, styling by Carrozzeria Ghia and built by German coach-builder Karmann.  This 1969 Ghia is for sale on ebay for $7k buy-it-now on ebay and is powered by a shocking engine transplant.
