15k: Devil In The Details: 1965 Ford Mustang

It doesn't get much more "American" than the first generation Ford Mustang, and the fastback has been (and probably always will be) the most desirable of the breed.  Chalk it up to the fastback's pedigree as the preferred racing variant, relatively low production numbers or the handsome fastback roofline -- it doesn't matter, you just know you want one...but when you find a cheap one, is it too good to be true? Find this 1965 Ford Mustang currently bidding for $14,000 with a few hours to go on eBay, located in the City of Angels, CA.

5k: Snail Power: 1989 Nissan S-Cargo

The Nissan S-Cargo was launched in 1989 as part of the Pike series (Be-1, Pao, Figaro and S-Cargo) of retro-styled economy cars. Nissan's Pike cars beat the New Beetle, New Mini, PT Cruiser to the retro-style market, but keep in mind that the old Mini had been retro-styled by default since about 1970, and the Beetle since about 1960.  Find this 1989 Nissan S-Cargo currently bidding for $750 reserve-not-met on eBay with 5 days to go, located in Bellingham, WA.  Tip from Johnny.

What Am I? Oiled Up

Welcome to another edition of DT's cure for the Monday morning blues -- What Am I?  In this better than getting ebola from a bowling ball game we find a random picture of a car and you get to guess what it is. Last week, we featured a picture of the undercarriage of a '62 Pontiac Catalina, and a close guess from Fleetwood T Brougham almost solved the puzzle, but it took RyanM's sharp eBay skills to find the actual car.  The commenters appreciated the harder puzzle, so today's WAI feature is a doozy.  Just what am I anyway? Update with answers below.

5k: Clutch Equipped E32: 1988 BMW 735i 5-speed

In 1986 BMW launched its second version of its top-tier luxury liner 7-series with the E32 model.  The E32 generation is a subtly styled sedan and BMW continued to push the 7-series as the luxury car for the 'sporting' driver by offering it with a manual transmission in the 6-cylinder models.  Perhaps some bankers wanted their chauffeurs to get a left leg workout, but we doubt many we ordered with the 5-speed, making one a rare treat today.  Find this 1988 BMW 735i 5-speed offered for Camarillo, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Sean S.

3k: Don't Mase Me Bro: 1984 Maserati Biturbo Coupe 5 Spd

About once a week I drive by a Maserati Biturbo tucked in a private driveway, covered in a fine layer of dirt and patina.  The little coupe hasn't moved in at least a decade, and it sorta makes you wonder why people store cars for decades, especially in dense urban environments with little spare room.  The owner could be planning a long term restoration, totally forgotten about the car, or waiting for the Biturbo market to blossom...but that poor little car will be there for at least another decade...or more.  Even nice examples are cheap, like this one!  Find this 1984 Maserati Biturbo Coupe 5 Spd offered for $3,250 in Hayward, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

5k: That 70s Show: 1969 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser

Our tips box has been filled with fantastic tips recent (thanks everybody!) but we got a fantastic one in the form of this 1969 Oldmobile Vista Cruiser from regular tipper/commenter Andy L, offered for $6,000 in Fremont, NE via craigslist.  The best part was that his note was a great summary of the car, so I'll just put it here:

Dear Staff at Daily Turismo,  Howdy.  Thought you all might be in the mood for a nice, old-school wagon today.  This one is particularly cool, as it is a "That 70s Show" doppelganger.  Wish the ad specified the size of the V8 in this car, this it is less relevant than it would be than in a Chevelle of the same year.  You will either get the not-too-slow with crappy gas-mileage small block, or a powerful-enough with abysmal gas-mileage big block.

10k: Maytag White: 1988 Toyota Soarer

The Z20 generation Toyota Soarer was an inline-6 powered predecessor to the Lexus SC300/400 but it was not imported to the US. We've featured an '88 Soarer in the past, but it was a fresh off the boat example that needed some executive amnesty before it would be granted permanent residence (it sold for $7,200), but this one is claimed to be 100% legal and not grey market.  Find this 1988 Toyota Soarer JDM import offered for $11,000 in Hutchinson Island, FL via craigslist.  Tip from Mike F.

5k: Sea Ville: 1986 Cadillac Cimarron Custom Boat

The Cadillac Cimarron is often accused of being many things -- a badge engineering experiment gone wrong, the worst car ever built with an egg crate grill, and a festering pile of monkey feces, but you can't lump it into the same boat as the typical Cadillac and accuse it of being a...well...boat.  That is because it was a compact car and while not particularly nice, it didn't have the heft and girth of a typical Caddy...at least before you fuse an entire boat chassis on top of it.  Find this 1986 Cadillac Cimarron Custom Boat offered for $4,500 in Costa Mesa, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Mike N.

10k: Shark Bait: 1984 BMW 633CSi E24 5 Speed

The E24 generation BMW 6-series was the successor to the classic BMW CS and CSL.  While the E9 (CS and CSL) are extremely expensive in any condition (even a rustbucket) the E24 6 Series are very reasonable.  It is a pretty car and Paul Bracq's design set the style of BMWs for years to come; don't expect these things to stay cheap for much longer.  Find this 1984 BMW 633CSi E24 5 Speed offered for $9995 in Mercer Island, WA via craigslist.  Tip from Gianni.

3k: Vanilla Yugort: 1987 Yugo GV

"You can't have too much of a good thing" is one of those truisms that isn't remotely true. The obvious caveat: candy corn. The first two handfuls are bliss, the second three induce stomach aches, and each recurrence (likely accompanied with Halloween-themed booze like Morgue-A-Rita) will end your night early and rot your teeth out. No such rotting seems to afflict this low-mile, squeaky clean Yugo GV. Yes, another Yugo, because on Daily Turismo, you can't have too much of a decrepit heap. Find this 1987 Yugo GV in Charlotte, NC for $2,999 via craigslist.

2k: A Fistfull of Capella: 1983 Mazda 626

When it comes to the clean car feature search, there are a few things we look for in a late model car.  Let's check the short list; manual transmission, original owner, low miles, nice condition, and stock -- if a car meets those requirements it really doesn't matter if it is a Yugo or a Saab -- like this next piece. Find this 1983 Mazda 626 5psd offered for $2,450 in Danville, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

3k: When Life Gives You Lemons...Engine Swap: 1981 Chevrolet Citation X-11 with V8

General Motors ramped up its steady front-wheel-drive-ization of its product lineup in 1980 with the introduction of the X-platform.  The X-body was GM's attempt to compete with Toyota/Honda and included the Buick Skylark, Chevrolet Citation, Oldsmobile Omega, and Pontiac Phoenix.  They were totally forgettable cars, but if you shove a Cadillac V8 up front, it suddenly becomes interesting.  Find this 1981 Chevrolet Citation X11 with 4.9L V8 offered for $3,000 in Coral Springs, FL via craigslist.  Tip from BallsJefferson.

Coffee Brake: Halloween Costume Time

As the festival of women dressed like skanks known as Halloween approaches, it is a time to consider appropriate costumes for grown men...particularly grown men who like cars. So, pick your favorite automotive hero (dead or alive) and build yourself a costume.  In classic DT fashion, the cheaper the better, and who doesn't love an obscure reference to the engineer who invented the side view mirror?

5k: Batteries Not Included: 1979 Marathon C-360 Hybrid Tin Death Trap

If you thought that Top Gear UK's Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust had the market cornered on hybrid electric-internal combustion vehicles with flimsy sheet metal that will decapitate you with poorly deburred edges...guess again.  In the late 70s and early 80s a small electric van manufacturer under the of name Marathon Electric Vehicles Inc produced a few dozen canned ham style six wheeled electric vans for in-town commercial use, but this one was the single Briggs & Stratton powered gasoline-electric hybrid prototype.  Find this 1979 Marathon C-360 Hybrid Tin Death Trap currently bidding for $5,000 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go on eBay, located in Cedarburg, WI. Tip from Sean.

4k: I Can't Drive 55 MPG: 1974 Chevrolet Corvette TDI

The intersection of hair metal and eco-geekdom is a lonely one, marked by the paradoxical symbiosis of Birkenstocks and acid-washed jackets in the same closet. Do you wear a mullet not because it is stylish, but because you want to reduce the amount of toxic sunscreen runoff in our rivers, but still protect your neck from the damaging effects of sunshine coming through a ozone depleted stratosphere?  If your idea of a rad night out is wearing gold-chain necklaces to a Sierra Club meeting, set down your tofu burger, take the syringe out of your arm, and check out this 55 MPG Corvette. Find this 1974 Chevrolet Corvette with Volkswagen 1.9L TDI swap in New London, CT for $4,000 via craigslist.

10k: Ex-Belgan Military: 1968 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 404

The Unimog is an multi-purpose medium duty truck that was the brain child of Dr Ferdinand Unimog...no it wasn't.  It is short for "UNIversal-MOtor-Gerät" (Gerät meaning machine in German) and was originally built in post war Germany for "agricultural" purposes due to the post war anti-military production sanctions on the country that had twice tried to take over the world in the span of 25 years. Anyone with half a brain would have instantly realized that this "tractor" was really a troop carrier and would have sent tanks into Berlin, but there was this wall in the way and frankly people around the world were just starting to discover the joys of sitting down after dinner to watch television.  History will show you that war was not going to happen before the advent of the VCR (and later TiVo) because you'd miss all your shows..but I digress. Find this 1968 Mercedes Unimog 404 offered for $8,000 in Boise, ID via craigslist.  Tip from LT3k.
