The GC generation Mazda Capella was released in 1982 and in a departure from previous rear-drive versions, it was front-engine, front-wheel-drive. As much as this may make purists throw small tantrums,it was, arguably, a better car in every way from the previous version as it introduced a turbocharged engine and independent suspension at all four corners.
This Mazda 626 is really well preserved for a 31 year old car, especially for a budget workhorse like a Mazda sedan. I'm no Nostradamus, but I can say with some certainty that a used Mazda 626 will never be collectible, and most have been treated poorly...but not this one. It is spotless.

There also was a four-door hatch version of the 626 in the 1980s. Rare, but worth finding back in the day. 626s were nice driving cars.

I don't need another car. I don't want another car. I especially don't need another 30+ y.o. car. So quit tempting me with low-mileage, one-owner creampuffs. Jeez, it even has the CA sunset plates.

ReplyDeleteI owned the non-turbo LX version that had power windows and an adjustable "sport" suspension. I bought it in 93 and it had 120K on it. I actually drove this car to work in the 1996 blizzard in Cincinnati through 14.4 record breaking inches of single day snowfall.... It handled like a dream! I traded it in and received $1,000 for it in 1997 on a new Mazda B2300 pickup truck.
