we find a random picture of a car and you get to guess what it is. Last
week, we featured a picture of the undercarriage of a '62 Pontiac Catalina, and a close guess from Fleetwood T Brougham almost solved the puzzle, but it took RyanM's sharp eBay skills to find the actual car. The commenters appreciated the harder puzzle, so today's WAI feature is a doozy. Just what am I anyway? Update with answers below.

that recently sold for $6,821 via eBay. I was keen to be devious in this WAI feature, since the car was active on eBay when the post went live, but only for about 7 minutes. Then it went into the recent sales section, so by the time the Mercedes guys chimed in about the engine and the Jeep guys identified the chassis, the actual listing was in the archive, forcing carchivist extraordinaire Kaibeezy to dig deep into his reserves to eBay-Fu to find this pile of smoking diesel fumes. Great job to Hugh, Handsome & Dirty, and Kaibeezy for the tag team solution.

That is a Mercedes diesel engine...but it isn't living in a 300D, Volvo 240 or G-Wagen...

DeleteHmm, I was wondering why there wasn't any linkage for the gas pedal / throttle / accelerator ( none of which really apply in this case ) and or whatever they call the "strangler" in places not in aller weldt

Two hours later return to the parking garage and the car is still running.
Hugh -- many years ago I had a 300d auto that I would shove into drive and turn the key off to get it to slowly die. Turning off the 240d manual I had later was a much more violent procedure. In gear. Key off. Drop clutch.
DeleteMaybe Jeep builder guy just made his own mechanical throttle linkage coming up from below. If you did it right, you could rig the pedal to kill the engine if pulled up via toes jammed between pedal and floormat.
