Arrr-Class Fleet Sale: 1990s/2000s Pirate Art Cars

The guys at RM Sotheby's Auctions think they have the best lineup of classic cars for sale -- and the collection of Jim Click's Ford racing cars offered in Monterey on 19-20 August 2016 does look nothing short of extraordinary...but I'm gonna have to say that they don't have nearly enough home built rigging, custom sails, or swashbuckling potential...so I'll save my money and pick up this next set of custom things.  Find this collection of 1990s/2000s era cars turned into pirate ships offered for $2-$5k each or in a package deal located in Hollywood, CA (where else?) via craigslist.

5k: Sea Ville: 1986 Cadillac Cimarron Custom Boat

The Cadillac Cimarron is often accused of being many things -- a badge engineering experiment gone wrong, the worst car ever built with an egg crate grill, and a festering pile of monkey feces, but you can't lump it into the same boat as the typical Cadillac and accuse it of being a...well...boat.  That is because it was a compact car and while not particularly nice, it didn't have the heft and girth of a typical Caddy...at least before you fuse an entire boat chassis on top of it.  Find this 1986 Cadillac Cimarron Custom Boat offered for $4,500 in Costa Mesa, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Mike N.

5k: James Bondo: The Boat Vette

In the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, the star of the movie isn't a debinaire Roger Moore, but a 1977 Lotus Esprit that transforms into a submarine.  The movie used an actual Esprit for some of the underwater scenes and that car was subsequently lost to the public eye and only reappear when someone purchased an abandoned storage unit in 1989.  The car eventually sold for almost a million dollars to none other than Tesla Inc's Elon Musk who plans on using it for world domination.  However, imagine an alternative universe in which agent 007 is from Alabama and introduces himself as Bondo, James Bondo....this C3 Corvette Boat offered for $2,700 in Nora Springs, IA would be his ride.   Tip from Zach.

5k: Floaters And Flashers: 1973 Volkswagen Beetle Boatswagen

Floaters and flashers - not just the least desirable things to find in a public restroom, but also signs that you could be going blind from inhaling too much welding and fiberglass fumes.  The truth is that when you are doing a garage project you don't pay attention to OSHA limits on fume inhalation, so what starts out as an attempt to turn a VW Bug into a Manx style buggy can go horribly wrong...or horribly awesome.  Find this 1973 Volkswagen Beetle Boatswagen currently bidding for $3,049 reserve-not-met with 2 days to go.

5k: Wave Runner: 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier Car Boat

The terms land yacht and boat are used to describe big heavy American cars, typically those from the  1970s with huge hoods and under-damped suspension. They are known for handling like aquatic vehicles, where turning is an imprecise art involving the width of a shipping lane, but they typically don't look much like actual boats. The seller of today's featured land yacht decided to build an actual boat look-a-like.  Find this 1984 Chevy Cavalier based boat car for sale in Caldwell, NJ currently bidding on ebay for $1,825 reserve-not-met with 2 days to go.
