1986 Ford F250 Diesel vs 1987 Chevrolet Corvette

This next double feature comes from DT tipper/reader/commenter Art who writes: Thinking about shuffling up the stable a bit in the next few months to shake off the COVID-19 Blues... selling my boat and truck, along with a motorcycle and at least one other car (yes I have issues).  $5k budget for the next fun car.... First up is this 1986 Ford F250 Lariat Diesel offered for $4200 in Preston, CT via craigslist.

Turbo Flatty: 1983 Mitsubishi Starion

The Mitsubishi Starion/Dodge Conquest/Plymouth Conquest/Chrysler Conquest was a line of 4 cars built in the 80s by Mitsubishi in Japan - rebadged for Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler to confuse everyone.  It was the Japanese version of a pony car and combined a turbocharged front engine, manual trans, rear wheel drive and limited slip differentials for classic fun.  Contrary to popular belief the name Starion was not an Engrish mispronunciation of Stallion, but it is a contraction of the words Star of Arion -- which was a mythical horse.  It would be easy to compare a nice version of the Starion to a Mustang, Camaro, Porsche 944 or RX7 and it is certainly a less common alternative to the other common 2+2s you see around on the road. Find this 1983 Mitsubishi Starion offered for $5500 in Rochester, NY WA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

DePimp My Ride: 1964 Volkswagen Beetle Porsche 917 Kit

Another day, another hideous Poorch 917 replica...I know what yer thinkin.  You're thinking that the guys at DailyTurismo are hitting the bourbon early these days.  No, not yet...the coronavirus drinking games are still mostly done after 5 o'clock...but what I can tell you is that I'd love the idea of driving something with a ludicrous driving position that only cost me a few thousand smackeroos, a few weekends of wrenching, and one divorce.  Imagine the feeling of hitting the throttle as the sweat pours down your brow...and that's only in regular traffic...because no AC and no windows are gonna make this thing amazing in the summer...but the primary reason we are featuring this car is because it used to be a flame throwing hovercraft batmobile.  Yup...it appears that the next owner removed the flamethrower, taser hood oranment, and 110V generator + AC unit and tried to get it back to basics.  Find this 1964 Volkswagen Beetle Porsche 917 Kit offered for $3200 in Scottsdale, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Red Rover Red Rover: 1977 MG B V8

This next car came with a certain amount of deja vu.  Did we already feature this car? Or have we simply seen so many Rover V8 powered MGBs that my brain has become a fog of classic British steel and aluminum alloy?  I guess this is a new entry into the world of V8 powered MGs...but I dunno. Find this 1977 MG B V8 offered for $10,500 CAD ($7,536 USD) in Courtice, ON, Canada via kijiji.ca. Tip from Erik202.

Save The Fuegos: 1984 Renault Fuego

Few cars elicit the same degree of guffawed snickers as a French built car sold in AMC dealers with the Spanish name for fire.  Yeah. The one car that is more Rodney Dangerfield than even Pontiac's Fiero...the Renault Fuego. It is a car that was loved by a few, misunderstood by many, and is all but extinct today...so forget the whales, we need to band together and save the Fuegos. Find this 1984 Renault Fuego offered for $3975 in New Albany, OH via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Premium Vintage: 1999 Porsche Boxster

I hate paying premium price for anything...which is why I spend a large part of my day obsessing over used cars, scouring the web for cars that have depreciated into the basement and can be purchased with your coronavirus stimulus check.  However...there is something captivating about time capsule cars -- those which appear to have avoided the inevitable decay for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. This next car is old enough to legally drink in all 50 states but only has 33k miles on the odo and is offered for a "premium" price, but not an insane one.  Does the clean condition merit the premium price? Find this 1999 Porsche Boxster offered for $13999 in Palos Verdes, CA via craigslist.

John Cooper "Works" Edition: 2007 Mini Cooper S

This next seller needs a lesson in first impressions -- when you advertise a car, the first thing you should not include in your description is the phrase "works" complete with quotation marks.  What the seller meant to say is that it is the John Cooper Works edition, which is a special edition of the Cooper S from the factory.  One can probably assume it "works" based on the sellers description of it "running amazing" and these little Coopers are cheap cheap cheap these days! Find this 2007 Mini Cooper S JCW offered for $4400 in West Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

OG Minivan: 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan SE

The daddy of the modern minivan was built on a modified version of Chrysler's K-Car platform with which it shared engines and much running gear, but the backbone was something that Lee Iacocca and Hal Sperlich called the T-115 platform...which was just a beefy version of the K-car. The Chrysler minivan was billed as an alternative to the station wagon and many years later we know that it completely replaced the wagon (and is now being superceded by the 3-row SUV...but that is a story for another time) and today's example is shockingly well preserved. Find this 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan SE offered for $5500 via facebrockyates massageplace. Originally found on Jalopnik.

Deux Pour Un: A Pair of 1953 Panhard Dyna Juniors

In the world of low volume '50s roadsters, there are oddballs and then there are complete bizarro world lunatics.  This is the narwhal in the room...the twin tusked unicorn that was designed by French car builder Panhard to be sold into the US market -- think of it like a poor man's version of a Porsche 356 speedster, but setup like a Citroen DS-- yup front engine, front wheel drive...and that engine is 2-cylinder boxer good for something like 35 horsepower give or take. With only 1390 lbs to haul around this little Frenchie should be fun to drive, just don't expect it to be fast. Find this pair of 1953 Panhard Dyna Juniors here on eBay bidding for $3750 in Sacramento, CA with 4 days to go.

Wasserstopper Equipped: 1980ish Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia

Welcome to Daily Turismo's Syncro de Mayo, our May 5th celebration of Volkswagen's four wheel drive system known as Syncro.  Those pop-top Westfalia camper things used to be cheap and easy to run on a budget, but some kind of nostalgic hypnosis has convinced people they are worth somewhat more than scrap value, and you'll find people asking insane amounts for these small Syncro equipped campers. However, DT's tippers are good at finding the diamonds in the rough like this next thing. Find this 1980ish Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia offered for $11,000 in Port Orchard, WA via facebash marketface. Tip from Zach Z.

Syncro de Mayo: 2004 Volkswagen R32

Welcome to Daily Turismo's Syncro de Mayo, our May 5th celebration of Volkswagen's four wheel drive system known as Syncro. Today's first entry into our symphony of synchronicity might not have used the Syncro name in its advertising literature, but the R32 Golf MkIV puts power from its VR6 engine into a haldex controlled center diff that'll put power to the rear wheels when needed. It still maintains a certain degree front front-wheel-drive understeer, but judicious application of the throttle pedal will make the little boxy shaped Golf turn and squat like a Weimaraner in heat. Find this 2004 Volkswagen R32 here on eBay offered for $12,995 buy-it-now or make-offer located in Mesa, AZ.

Need tips for Syncro de Mayo

Just a reminder...tomorrow is Syncro de Mayo,  our May 5th celebration of Volkswagen's four wheel drive system known as Syncro.   Find DT the syncros and send them to our tips@dailyturismo.com email.

Tommykaira Tuned: 1995 Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon

If you don't get the appeal for this next car, you've probably never played Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo racing series on Sony Playstation.  And that's fine, not everyone will appreciate this car...but for the diehard JDM lover who remembers the feeling of a numb thumb from hours of lapping Trial Mountain Circuit...yeah...you know who you are and you want this bad. Find this 1995 Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon offered for $11999 in Staten Island, NY via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Honey I Shrunk the 401K: The 1965 Volvo PV544

The Volvo PV544 might be mostly recognizable as the car the Rick Moranis' character drove in Honey I Shrunk the Kids, but tipper SecondMouse calls it "the '65 Volvo that is NOT an 1800" and had this to say about the old Swede: If you have seen enough old Volvo Amazons and 1800s, here is a beautiful and relatively rare 1965 PV544. This was the last year they were made (except for the wagon version, which went on for a few more years). I love these classic, indestructible Volvos, and with their climbing prices, I am clearly not alone. The owner says this two door four seater has less than 75,000 miles on it (that's like 1400 miles a year) and is a four speed standard. Offered in Katy TX for $14,000, which compares well to recent PV544 listings if it is as good as it looks.  If I had the $, you would not be looking at it right now.  Find this 1965 Volvo PV544 offered for $14000 in Katy, TX via craigslist.

Well Saved: 1975 Chevrolet Monza California Edition

The Chevrolet Monza (not to be confused with the Opel Monza or the Chevy Corvair Monza)  was released in the 1975 model year as GM's plus sized subcompact (how's that for a contradiction in terms) offering on the H-platform shared with the Vega/Astra/Sunbird/Skyhawk/Starfire.  It was GM's answer to new sporty-ish compact offerings from Ford like the Mustang II, Capri and Dodge's Galant based Colt.  The Monza was actually quite a strong seller, with almost 750,000 examples of the H-body sold in the first 6 years of production but few remain on the streets today, much less in this sorta condition.  Yowza! Find this 1975 Chevrolet Monza California Edition offered for $7500 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Back to Basics: 1988 BMW 325i E30

I love featuring random crazy kit cars and super well preserved malaise era boats as much as the next guy, but there are times when you've got to get back to basics when it comes to finding your "daily turismo".  Let's rewind the clock to July 17th, 2012 when this little website was first launched, and some dude (me) wrote that cars on DT would be; Fun (which was loosely defined as: 1) Manual transmission 2) Rear wheel drive 3) Fast) and Cheap.  That's it.  So here is something that gets back to basics. Find this 1988 BMW 325i E30 offered for $3300 in Phoenix, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Beetle Based: 1969 Porsche 917 Kit Car

Why have I been featuring so many kit cars these days?  Is wanting to drive a home built car that looks like a crappy version of something awesome a lesser known symptom of coronavirus?  I thought I was coughing from the fumes from this leaky Volkswagen engine, but maybe its the COVID??  Is it social distancing if I leave a big gap in traffic because I'm uncertain the brakes are gonna work on the first pump?  Find this 1969 Porsche 917 Kit Car offered for $13,999 in Encino, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!
