$Free.99: 1960 Studebaker Lark Project

Free car! Who can argue with that? Not this guy, or anyone else who has an ounce of adventure and optimism running through their oil-soaked veins. It's not often we find a car that someone wants taken off their hands for a song, yet also cool enough to feature. This little Lark is one of those unicorns, although it will need a heavy application of dedication to get it back on the road. I Love Craigslist: 1969 OLD SCHOOL BAD ASS VAN

People complain that there is too much negativity in the world...which seems oddly self-fulfilling, but if you ever find the world getting you down, just head to your local craigslist, because the optimism overflows the cracked-in-half-cup like a California estuary.  Seriously, where else will you find people asking 5 to 10 times what they will ever get in value for something and being completely unaware of reality.  Find this 1969 OLD SCHOOL BAD ASS VAN offered for $3,500 in Santa Fe, NM via craigslist. Orbiting Star: 1963 Sunbeam Alpine

Mention the Sunbeam car brand in North America and instantly the next comment will include something about their Tiger model.  Lesser known is the Alpine, otherwise known as "Tiger's little brother".  With Tigers commanding large moola these days for even the scrappiest of specimens, lesser demand Alpines can offer tons of fun for smaller wallets.  Find this modified 1963 Sunbeam Alpine listed for sale in Sacramento, CA, but located in Oregon, for $5,000 via craigslist.

A VenDrégRace: 1968 Pontiac Acadian Beaumont

Well take a trip up to Quebec with a sack full of loonies and grab this bit of Acadian history. You, too, can be an the next All-Québécois badass, rolling serious fumée off them back pneus-es in this 1968 Pontiac Acadian Beaumont [ed CFlo: technically I think this is just a "Beaumont Coupe" - although they were sold at Pontiac dealers and had similar emblems, and Acadian was another earlier Canada-only brand] offered for $8,900 CAD ($6,901 USD) via Kijiji in Ville de Québec, QC.

I never thought I'd see the day where a hacked up Porsche 912 offered for something less than $20k would be a good deal...but then I never thought that kids would snort cinnamon and listen to Nickelback, so there are a lot of things that I'll never understand, but need to accept.  Find this 1966 Porsche 912 offered for $17,600 in Southern Oregon via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

Crusty Classic: 1969 BMW 2002

We just featured a crusty BMW 2002 the other day, but this next one is considerably better looking [arguable! -ed. CFlo] and comes with a spare 2002Tii engine/gearbox.  The asking price is higher, but if the paint isn't totally fried and it is mechanically in decent shape, it could be a sweet deal.  Find this 1969 BMW 2002 offered for $4,250 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

AC Cobra Lookalike: 1956 MG MGA

Back in the day, before the Cobra kit car industry (led by the likes of Factory Five, All Pro Cars, BackDraft Racing -- read a huge list on kitcarlist.com here) flooded the market with AC Ace lookalikes, if you wanted to drive a Cobra, you either had to drop some serious coin on a real one or do some creative bodywork on an MGA....like this 1956 MG MGA faux-bra offered for $5,000 in Santa Margarita, CA via craigslist. 5k: Obey The Headlight: 1982 Subaru GL Wagon

In the world of vehicles equipped with hidden headlamps (and that is indeed a strange and magnificent world) few match the sheer brazen magnificence of the Subaru GL's cyclops middle headlight.  The Leone may not have been a lion on the street, but that wacky third headlight hidden under the Seven Sisters makes it king of the urban jungle.  Find this 1982 Subaru GL Wagon offered here on eBay for $5,300 buy-it-now located in Staten Island, NY from Roverclassic.

1k: Diamond In The Rough: 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante Wagon

The first generation Mitsubishi Diamante wagon was a front drive 5-door built in Australia and imported to North America from 1993 to 1996.  The name Diamante was all allegedly derived from the Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian word for "diamond" -- a tribute to the Mitsubishi corporate logo.  A used Diamante isn't on the top of an auto enthusiast anyone's wish list, but the 5-door version offers a certain amount of style for a strangely appealing price.  Find this 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante Wagon here on craigslist, offered for $1950 from a two-bit dealer in Grand Rapids, MI.

5k: Some Assembly Required: 1957 Moretti 750 Spider

 The Moretti Motor Company was a Turin, Italy based automobile manufacturer that opened its doors in 1925 and survived until 1989 on various small car and truck projects.  In the 1950s Moretti used fiat mechanical bits for their cars, but somehow the idea of a pretty Fiat for a few extra dollars (lira?) sounded good to many buyers around the world.  Today's Moretti is a project, but you'll be the only one on the block with one.  Find this 1957 Moretti 750 Spider in the SF Bay Area from a seller who is entertaining offers.  Tip from Kaibeezy. 

Scruffy Trio: BMW E30 Baur Targa, E21 Baur Targa & 2002

This next feature could be a good deal for someone looking for a project, or it could be a total waste of time from a seller who thinks he has some kind of rare artifacts for sale.  The problem is that the seller doesn't list a price, but the collection of cars certainly look cool - lets play spot the cool stuff.  Find this scruffy trio, a BMW E30 Baur Targa, E21 Baur Targa and 2002 offered for an undisclosed price somewhere in the San Fernando Valley, CA.  Tip from Einhander.

5k: Cheap Roundie: 1970 BMW 2002

The supply of cheap BMW 2002 roundies is just about gone, dried up like tears from a cowboy who lost his horse but found a pickup truck.  It probably won't be long before the entire market has "pulled a 911" and even the crappiest examples demand real money, but for now you can find a 2002 for nothing..but only if you look really hard and aren't afraid of rust.  Find this 1970 BMW 2002 offered for $3,200 near Portland, OR via craigslist.

1k: Fire Proof: 1982 Renault Fuego Turbo

The British satirist and Tolkien-spoof author Terry Pratchett once wrote: "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."  The engineers at Renault may have been may not have been joking when they chose the Spanish word for "fire" when naming their R17 successor...but it certainly is funny today.  The Fuego was built from 1980 to 1986 and featured such innovations as the worlds first keyless remote system and steering wheel mounted stereo controls.  Find this 1982 Renault Fuego Turbo for $2,000 buy-it-now on ebay, located in St Louis, MO.

3k: Bargain Vair: 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza

The Chevrolet Corvair is a regular feature on these pages, because it beat the Porsche 911 to the air-cooled flat-6 market by almost 10 years.  The same rear-engine lift-off over-steer tendencies that plagued the 911 are a common occurrence on the early Corvairs, but in 1965 with the introduction of a true independent rear suspension to replace the swing-axle design, the Corvair became slightly more controllable.  It was too late, as Nader's war against the European handling of the Corvair had done its damage and the car was canceled in 1969 after also 1.8 million examples were built.  Find this 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza offered for $2,600 in Greenville, OH via craigslist.  Tip from Doug in Cincinnati.
