Flying Swede: 1996 Saab 9000 Aero

The Saab 9000 was the last of a long line of Scandinavian engineered front-drive luxury sedans from the internal madmen at Saab, designed before it was swallowed up by the General Monster.  It was the product of a joint project between Saab and Fiat called the Type Four platform, and in production was the Lancia Thema, Saab 9000, Fiat Croma, Alfa Romeo 164.  But only the Saab offered Giorgetto Giugiaro styling, a turbocharged engine, body kit, Recaro seats, sport suspension and 16-inch wheels.  Find this 1996 Saab 9000 Aero offered for $4,000 in Denver, CO via craigslist.  Tip from Zach Z.

Seller Submission: 1973 Ford F100

This next feature comes as a seller submission from Matt who writes: Selling our F100 because we have too many projects and not enough parking, figured it met the kind of stuff you guys are interested in.  It's the perfect old truck - dependable (I daily drove it for a while), nice enough to get compliments everywhere, but not so nice you can't use it as a truck.  Old enough to be cool, but new enough to have some important things: power steering, power disk brakes, air conditioning. Find this 1973 Ford F100 pickup here on eBay bidding for $3,650 reserve-not-met with $8,000 buy-it-now, located in Columbia, SC.

Kappa: 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line Turbo

GM's Kappa platform was launched in 2006 with the Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn Sky followed a year later.  Unfortunately the 2008 recession/carpocalpyse killed the Skystice before it was more than a few years old....but in those few years GM managed to sell 100,124 examples (34,400 Sky, 65,724 Solstic) and they make great used drivers today.  Find this 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line here on eBay offered for $11,995 buy-it-now located in Chatsworth, CA.

Aced out: 1967 Hodaka Ace 90

We like to think that we live in extraordinary times.  We tell ourselves what is happening now has never in the face of human history happened before.  For example, designing in the US and outsourcing the manufacturing to Asia.  Reading today's news might lead you to thinking Buick's Chinese SUV is the first example of this, but back in the 60's PABATCO in Oregon designed a dirt bike and outsourced the manufacturing to Hodaka of Japan.  Find this 1967 or 1968 Hodaka Ace 90 for sale in Post Falls, ID for $650 via craigslist.

Auction Alert: 1971 Tatra 603

Needs More V8: 1948 Belly Tank Racer Lakester

Back in the early days of Bonneville Salt Flat racing, guys like Alex Xydias of So Cal Speed Shop took surplus WWII airplane external fuel tanks and turned them into low flying coffins.  The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) even created a special class for the customs (called Lakester) and out on the dry desert floor in the late 1940s, guys ran almost 200 mph with flathead V8s without the aid of forced induction. It was one of the coolest times to be Southern Cali speed freak, and you can relive it with this next feature.  Find this 1948 Belly Tank Racer here on eBay bidding for $4,450 with a few hours to go, located in Key West, FL.

Auction Watch: 1973 Volvo 144

Check out this 1973 Volvo 144 here on eBay bidding for $4,050 with a few hours to go, located in East Longmeadow, MA.

Monster Truckin: 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 Custom

Marty McFly may have driven Doc Brown's DeLorean into the past (and then back to the future), but if you watched the film carefully, you will remember that he lusted after a Toyota 4X4 pickup, which Biff was nice enough to wax for him in the end.  Perhaps if Marty had built the original time machine it would look a little bit more like this thing.  Find this 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 Custom here on eBay with starting bid of $9,999 located in Hickory Flat, MI with 2 days to go.  Tip from Patrick.

This next car comes as a seller submission from Mike W who writes:
This is a car that I originally found in Richmond VA two years ago through DT.  It needed a whole lotta love to get it back to where it needed to be, but there was a great foundation to work with.  It had me at Fuel injection, stick shift, RWD v8 volvo.
Find this 1990 Volvo 745 Wagon offered for $10,000 in Garner, NC via craigslist.

Fox Based: 1983 Mercury Capri RS 5.0

The Mercury Capri was sold in three distinct generations which are commonly known as the German Capri (1970-1977), Mustang Capri (1979-1986) and finally the Crapi (1991-1994).  Obviously the German Capri is the coolest of the breed, but for day-to-day driving, I think the Fox Mustang based Capri is going to be the easy winner.  Find this 1983 Mercury Capri RS 5.0 offered for $10,000 in Dublin, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Auction Watch: 1994 Porsche 968

Turbocharged Fairlady Roadster: 1967 Datsun Sports 1600

The Datsun SPL311 Fairlady Roadster was exported in left hand drive configuration to the United States and badged as the Datsun 1600.  It was powered by a 1.6 liter R-series inline-4 that pushed out 95 horsepower into a 4-speed manual gearbox -- and while it isn't the fastest car on the block, it handles well and looks good in your classic collection.  Drop in a larger engine with a turbocharger and things get even better.  Find this 1967 Datsun Sports 1600 here on eBay bidding for $5,400 with 1 day to go, located in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.
