10k: Polizia Sedan: 1973 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1300

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1300 (Tipo 115.09) was a version of the Giulia sedan sold from 1973 to 1978.  The Giulia was a competitor to the BMW New Class and Datsun 510 but outclassed both of those cars with an Italian take on family motoring.  Find this 1973 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1300 currently bidding for $7,600 reserve-not-met on ebay, located in New Egypt, NJ with less than 1 day to go.



This Giulia (pronounced with a soft "g" - Joo- lee- A) looks to be in decent cosmetic shape and is distinctive in its appearance - no one will mistake this Alfa for a Japanese or American car from the early 1970s.  The Polizia paint scheme and top light are a little odd, but easy to remove if the new owner desires -- the amber fog lights (illegal or not!) stay!


This Super 1300 has had its original 1.3 liter engine removed and is now powered by a 2.0 liter inline-4 cylinder Alfa engine rated at 130 horsepower according to the seller.  The all-alloy DOHC Alfa engines make fantastic noises and are real treats to drive, but they will cost a bit more than the average domestic engine for rebuild.


The interior of this Giulia looks decent, the dash, steering wheel and console look nice, but the driver seat is a bit torn up.  The police radio is another interesting modification that works with the Polizia theme, but is otherwise easy to remove.

    As cool as a Guilia is, it's main competition was the Lancia Fulvia. The Alfa even went so far as to completely ape the Fulvia's body design. Nice car, but I'd rather the reliability of the Fulvia's weird V4 over the Alfa's leaky I-4 for less money.

      Adam, you are correct, when new the Fulvia was a close competitor to the Giulia, but today good luck finding a Fulvia anywhere near this price in the USA...trust me, I've looked!! The Fulvia also brings with it some weirdness like V4 engine and front wheel drive, not everyone's cup of tea, but (this is a big but) the Fulvia has a much better looking rear end IMHO.
