15k: SBC Power: 1961 Volvo PV544 Chevy V8

The Volvo PV444/544 has the honor of being the first unibody automobile from Volvo when it was first released for the 1947 model year.  The PV444  featured an early version of the legendary B-series inline four mated to the rear wheels and  Volvo produced an impressive 440,000 of the 1940s styled hunks of metal in 18 years of production.  Find this 1961 Volvo PV544 offered for $15,500 in El Cajon, CA via craigslist. Tip from VK.

The Buick style ventiports, side exit exhaust and louvered hood may seem a bit ridiculous, but they can be forgiven the minute you open the hood and take a look inside.

The funny looking lump between those old school fenders is a 5.7 liter Chevy 350 V8 mated to an automatic transmission.  Horsepower is advertised in the 300hp range and the seller says the car "drives like a GO kart on Steroids (not for the weak or meek). This is 10 lbs. of *&^& in a 5 lbs. bag."  Not sure if that last euphemism is the right one to use when describing your customized hot rod...

  1. Perry here. I have seen this car in the San Carlos area of San Diego. It is pretty cool. Price seems a bit high unless the car has been better sorted since last time I saw it. So check out how it looks, now, in person. If it qualifies, jump on it. It's a groovy ride.

  2. I'm wondering if this is the same guy who painted that John-Lennon-Bentley Volvo.
