The MGB GT was a fixed roof version of Morris Garage's iconic MGB roadster, introduced in 1965 and built through 1980 for various markets. When first released, the GT used the same BMC B-series inline-4 cylinder engine, but added small back seats for miniature passengers and Pininfarina designed greenhouse with a fastback lift-gate and storage area. In 1973, MG offered a V8 powered version of the MGB GT, but the increase in engine power was minimal and original examples cost beaucoup bucks, so why not pickup a homemade version with some extra power? This MGB GT is covered in a decent looking coat of paint, with a motorsports inspired racing stripe on the fender. A set of Minilte style wheels and bumper-less front/rear completes the motorsports look. The seller included a link to detailed build photos here.
Under the hood is a 4.2 liter version of the Buick-Olds-Pontiac-Rover V8, which has been rebuilt recently with some new parts. The seller doesn't specify the intake/heads/cam configuration, so making a guess for horsepower would be a shot in the dark. 225? 250? Anything above 200 hp should make the skinny side tires really come alive.
A few big pluses for this GT include functioning AC, a 5-speed manual gearbox and 3.63:1 rear end. It should be very comfortable inside for the passengers while you haul bacon. The grey interior and red seat piping might not be the first choice for most people, but it looks in decent shape.

ReplyDelete...at first blush, it looks fantastic. As the writer mentions, the "tarted up in the '80s" upholstery is a bit of a stretch for most. What I do not understand is why one would drill out vented brakes - makes about as much sense as wearing a belt and suspenders.
