Random fact of the day: The 1990 Subaru Justy was the last car sold in the US to have a carburetor...but this is a 1991 Justy so it should have some kinda fancified fuel injection setup feeding the 3-cylinder lump under the hood (which conflicts with the seller's statement that the car needs a CA legal carb to pass smog...hmmm).  A 5-speed equipped Subaru Justy isn't a car that will get bidders fired up into a 6-figure frenzy at the next Barrett-Jackson live auction or get mad respect at a BaT auction, but it might put a smile on the face of an average Joe for a small pile 'o' cash. Trappe Chaude: 2003 Peugeot 206RC

You used to hear a lot of chatter from car guys over here in the New World about how the Europeans always keep the best stuff to themselves. Everything from higher horsepower M3s to special Evolution editions of Cossie powered Mercedes was the stuff of legend back in the day...but globalization changed much of that and we get most everything they get back home in Germany/UK...except we don't get much from France these days, which is a shame...but what you can't get here in the the USA you can get by heading due North.  You might have to move to Canada permanently, but a little snow never killed anybody. X-Factor: 1988 Mazda 323 GTX

Mazda recently celebrated its 100th anniversary at the end of January.  Over those 100 years, Mazda has achieved a number of notable firsts.  Mazda was the first Japanese company to win the 24 Hours of LeMans and also with that win, was the first to win the 24 hour race with a rotary.  On the world rally circuit, Mazda was the first Japanese manufacture to win overall with a Group A car with the 323 4WD's win at the 1987 Swedish Rally.  Group A regulations required the production of 5,000 road going versions, and the 323 4WD was sold here in the states as the 323 GTX.  Popular as rally cars here too, through attrition (exploding transmissions) they have become even more rare than when new.  So when ones does come up for sale, buyers can't be too choosy.  Find this 1988 Mazda 323 GTX for sale in Battle Ground, WA for $2,500 via craigslist.

Hundebein: 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16V Cosworth

In the world of fast German luxury sedans, there is an interesting rivalry between the BMW M3, Mercedes-Benz C-AMG, and Audi's S4.  These three compact executive cars have been brawling since the beginning of time..and while you might think that BMW landed the first punch in the German street car brawl with its barn-storming E30 M3...but the truth is Mercedes-Benz launched the 190E 2.3-16V Cosworth in the same year -- and the 190E hasn't appreciated into stupid price territory, yet. The Real Luftgekühlt: 1958 King Midget III

The King Midget is not a child's toy that someone sneaked past the dimwits at their local DMV, but a micro car that traces it roots all the way back to 1946.  The initial versions were kit cars offering the unbeatable value of a 500 lb car for $500, but later the guys at the Midget Motors Corp offered fully assembled King Midgets...which is a strange name for a car powered by a single cylinder aircooled Wisconsin motor that pushed out 9.2 horsepower into a 2-speed...royal indeed. Project Z: 1974 Datsun 260Z 2+2

The 1974 Datsun 260Z was an evolution of the original 240Z that was first released in 1970 but it was only a one year affair before it was replaced by the 280Z in 1975.  The difference between a 240Z and a 260Z is hard to see from the outside...unless you find a 260Z 2+2, which added a small back seat and notched roofline. Today's example isn't perfect, but if it runs/drives it could be a good buy. Find this 1974 Datsun 260Z 2+2 offered for $5500 in Dublin, CA via craigslist.

Rarely Seen: 2010 Cadillac CTS Wagon

With the launch of the second generation CTS sedan in 2008, Cadillac finally gave the hungry masses what they demanded...a wagon version of the BMW 3-series & Mercedes C-Class competitor.  It wasn't a bad looking wagon (and much better looking than the slab sided CTS Coupe thing) and the American buying public did exactly what they always do...which is to not buy the wagon and instead buy some crappy small SUV.  A few years later Cadillac discontinued the wagon (when they launched the 3rd gen CTS in 2014) and now the only way to get one is on the used market...which is okay because they are cheap. The Other Side: 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4

It was only a matter of time.  Whenever I post a well priced Nissan Z32 300ZX Twin Turbo, someone always sends in a tip for a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 (or a Dodge Stealth R/T)...or sometimes the other way around.  And I always fall for it...which isn't a bad thing because we could all use a little more turbo in our lives. Grounded To The Ground: 2005 Subaru Legacy GT

This next car comes as tip from Jeff who writes: Nice long roof for the money! It does need a bit of work, but doesn't seem huge for the right person.  I like it because I like Subie wagons, but I think this one is too grounded to the ground for me...and the color is odd..but it is a wrap that could probably be removed exposing the original blue paint..which probably has flaking clearcoat and lots of scratches.  Maybe leave the wrap. Z32 5-Speed: 1991 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo

The 300ZX was a 2 door sports car from Nissan during the great Japanese sports car boom of the 1990s and featured a host of technology in a Isao Sono & Toshio Yamashita designed body.  In recent years the 300ZX's competitors (Supra, NSX, 993 etc) have gone through their depreciation curves and the good original ones are commanding prices well above original MSRP, but for some reason the 300ZX (and Mitsu's 3000GT/Dodge Stealth) have cheap for years...but I think that might be changing as cars from the 90s become classics...which is strange and makes me feel old. The Third Newman-Letterman V8lvo? 1995 Volvo 960 V8 with Puffer

The most famous Volvo wagon (or wagons) of all time is the V8 swapped 960 wagon that Paul Newman owned -- the saga of this car was told years later by Dave Letterman and in 2014 Newman's wagon was found in a cheap used car lot -- that story was broken here on DT.  All built at the same time by Converse Engineering, Letterman's car was red, Newman's car was grey and a third car was built for Ian Warburg in Manhattan...and that car was blue.  So..imagine my surprise when this Kenne Bell puffer equipped 960 V8 Volvo comes through the tips line located somewhere in New York.  The blue paint is faded..but the under-hood details are so similar...the only question is the white interior shown in this old Jalopnik article seems to have been swapped for black...but some of the underhood details are so similar. Could this be the third of the three cars built by Converse for Newman/Letterman/et al? Mint Milano: 1987 Alfa Romeo Milano Gold

In June of this year, Alfa will turn 110 years old.  Over that period, as you would expect, a few different organizations have called Alfa their own. Alfa was first started and owned by a consortium of Milanese businessmen, then rescued by Nicola Romeo, then nationalized by Mussolini, then sold by the government to FIAT and now merged with Peugeot.  Some say the Milano/75 of the 1980's is the last of the real Alfa's, constructed in the Alfa plant outside of Milan, prior to its takeover by FIAT.  Here's your chance to own one of the last of the real Alfa's before the birthday celebrations drive the prices to the stratosphere.  Find this 1987 Alfa Romeo Milano Gold for sale in Berserkly, CA for $8,500 via craigslist.

Every day, I drive down the roads in suburban SoCal, and lament the takeover of ugly crossovers and sport futility vehicles.  I get the usability of the modern small SUV...I really do...but when did needless vertical height become a cure-all for ugly tail lights?  And why can't we have wagons?  When did V8 powered rear-drive wagons become not a thing that new car shoppers want?  Am I the only one who would rather drive something ancient to avoid introducing yet another turd shaped blight on the automotive landscape?  Get off the lawn...that's where I park my boat!  Find this 1969 AMC Rebel Wagon offered for $6000 in Lexington, KY via craigslist. Specialist Division: 1985 Rover SD1 2600 Van den Plas

This next car comes as a tip from Erik202 who writes: I am a huge fan of Group 2, Group A, DTM and silhouette cars in general and one of my favourite stories from that era has to be  the TWR Rover SD1s. I'm not sure I have strong enough feelings about this particular rover to pay what I'm sure are ridiculous shipping costs but if they ever had a deal for free shipping on black friday or something  i just might be tempted to  live out my DTM fantasies. Supercharged Cop Car: 1994 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1

The forth generation Chevrolet Caprice was used by so many Police departments for many many decades that they still evoke a instinctive brake check from motorists...myself included.  This next example might date from the bubble styling era but the addition of a huge supercharger under the hood will let it keep up with modern fast sedans and probably make a great whining racket while it puffs along. 350 Horsepower: 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R Turbo

The B13 generation Nissan Sentra isn't a particularly memorable car in basic spec, but the factory hod rod SE-R offers an oddly fun package.  The combination of a robust and torquey inline-4, good brakes, light curb weight, and limited slip differential puts the SE-R into the ugly-but-good category of used cars....but you'll never find a stock example that hasn't been thrashed into the ground.  Today's next example has been fitted with a humongous turbocharger...so that's either good or bad depending on how you feel about torque steer or passing state mandated emissions tests.  Find this 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R Turbo offered for $5500 in South Jersey, NJ via craigslist. Distinguished Pedigree: 1971 Lotus Europa S2 Type 65
