X-Factor: 1988 Mazda 323 GTX

Mazda recently celebrated its 100th anniversary at the end of January.  Over those 100 years, Mazda has achieved a number of notable firsts.  Mazda was the first Japanese company to win the 24 Hours of LeMans and also with that win, was the first to win the 24 hour race with a rotary.  On the world rally circuit, Mazda was the first Japanese manufacture to win overall with a Group A car with the 323 4WD's win at the 1987 Swedish Rally.  Group A regulations required the production of 5,000 road going versions, and the 323 4WD was sold here in the states as the 323 GTX.  Popular as rally cars here too, through attrition (exploding transmissions) they have become even more rare than when new.  So when ones does come up for sale, buyers can't be too choosy.  Find this 1988 Mazda 323 GTX for sale in Battle Ground, WA for $2,500 via craigslist.

A Simple Thing? 1975 Audi 100 Sedan

In 1964 Volkswagen acquired the rag-tag group of West German auto makers known as Auto Union GmbH, part of which was a factory in Ingolstadt, Bavaria that started producing the Audi 100 in 1968.  The 100 badge on the back was a simple reference to the power output of the 4-cylinder watercooled engine mated to the front wheels.  Find this 1975 Audi 100 offered for $1,500 in Marsing, ID via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

It never ceases to amaze me how busy people are when they post craigslist ads.  Sometimes folks on craigslist won't list the actual model name of their car, or neglect to list options, but today's seller doesn't even know the model year of this thing.  Actually...there is a good chance that this car contains two different vin numbers from two different cars, so the seller might be right to avoid any description of model year.  Find this 1970 Audi 100 Custom offered for $500 in Denton, NE. The Audi 100 was a handsome coupe sedan from Audi that looked similar to the NSU Ro 80, probably because it was designed by ex-NSU engineer Ludwig Kraus.  The Audi 100 used a front engine, front wheel drive setup, maligned by handling enthusiasts from southern climates, but appreciated by folks who have to deal with regular snow.  Unfortunately if they are driven anywhere near snow, rain or over a puddle they rust instantly, so finding one in nice shape is like finding Amanda Bynes sober on a Sunday afternoon.  Find this 1972 Audi 100LS offered for $7,200 in Denver, CO via craigslist.

15k: V8 Power: 1956 Austin Healey 100

What is it about classic British sports cars that brings out the Chevy V8 hammer mechanics?  It is as if every British car from the 50s/60s has a picture of Anna Kendrick painted on the side and suddenly leering drunks jump out of the bushes and start planning V8 swaps.  It wouldn't be bad if the swaps ended in a worked monster of a Corvette beater, but they almost inevitably end up in tears, crushed dreams and rust.  Like this 1956 Austin Healey 100 currently bidding for $15,101 in Easthampton, MA with 4 days to go on ebay.
