5k: 1969 Volvo 144 Racer

Maybe it was hanging out at the racetrack for the past weekend, or perhaps years of sitting in SoCal traffic - but we had a hankering for some racing junk and found this prime example on the racingjunk.com website.  This 1969 Volvo 144 racer is for sale for $7,500 in Roseburg, OR.

10k Flash: 1970 AMC AMX

The AMX was a two seat muscle car from AMC, built from 1968-1970.  In its time it was considered a competitor to the Corvette, as it was one of the only other two seat hardtops to be built by Detroit, but it was considerably cheaper and steel bodied.  This 1970 AMC AMX is currently bidding on ebay for $12k with a few hours to go, located in Port Orange, Fl.

10k: 1978 Toyota Corolla TE51 - Minty Clean

Its no secret that we love clean original Japanese classics from the 70s/80s here at the Daily Turismo.  We like them for their low curb weights and rear wheel drive setup, but mostly because a few dollars goes a long way into getting something rare/cool/stylish.  This 1978 Toyota Corolla Sport Coupe TE51 is coated in a show winning deep smurf blood blue paintjob and offered for $9500 with its current shoes (or $7500 barefoot) in Azuza, CA via nasioc.com forums.

5k: 2000 Volvo V70R AWD Wagon

There's no hiding the fact that we keep our eyes out for sporty-type haulers at DT and this 2000 Volvo V70R AWD Wagon has popped up on both Ebay and Craigslist.  The Ebay bids are currently at $2,000 and the Craigslist asking price is $4,900.

5K: 1980 Toyota Celica ST Coupe, Minty Clean

The Toyota Celica first hit US shores in 1971 as the Japanese translation of the Ponycar.  In 1976 Toyota introduced a Fastback version which was both lauded and mocked as the Japanese Mustang.  While the first series Celicas certainly borrowed heavily from US styling cues, some might argue that the second generation Celica's (which were penned in the US and carried the model from 1978-1981) began striking their own pose, before the 1982's headed off in a much more unique and angular look.

This second Series 1980 Celica ST offered on Ebay presents a great test of the market to see if a mid-series, automatic Celica ST Coupe with just 75,000 miles in immaculate original condition is....collectible.  If there's an American equivalent, its probably a jade green 1970 Mustang Coupe with 302, 2bbl and automatic. This particular example looks like it was beamed back from 1983.

DT Back from 'Vacation'

The editors of DT spent some vacation this weekend in the pits of the Black Iron Racing's low budget racer 24 Hours of Lemons team at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway.  We apologize for the lack of regular updates on cheap cars, but with a wheel falling off the car, Exxon Valdez levels of fuel being spilled during pit stops and generally getting finger nails dirty - it was a busy weekend!  See update on their facebook page at the above link.

5k: 1974 BMW Bavaria E3 sedan w/ BMW bike

The BMW E3 was the big daddy to the modern 5-series and packs a lot of cool into an affordable vintage package.  Badged as the Bavaria and powered by torquey inline sixes, the E3 (and E9 coupe cousin) proved that BMW was a player in the luxury sport sedan market and today are very inexpensive to own and maintain.  This 1974 BMW Bavaria is offered for sale in the SF Bay Area, CA via the e9coupe.com forums at a very reasonable $4974 asking.

10k: 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia Pop-Top Camper, Subaru Powered

The third generation (T3) of VW's legendary 'Type 2 Transporter' continued the formula setup by its predecessors of slow, tippy and reliable, and was marketed in the USA as the Vanagon from 1979-1993.  The ultimate family version is certainly the Westfalia with pop up top, a full kitchen and sleeping accommodations for four adults!  Stay safe and dry at next year's burning man festival with this 1987 Westfalia Camper powered by a Subaru engine, for sale in Colorado Springs, CO for $11,500 via craigslist.

15k: 2002 Lincoln LS w/LS1 V8, 6 spd

In the past few days the internet has been abuzz with the news of Lincoln showing nothing but its old cars at the LA Auto show and then parent company Ford rebranding Lincoln as "The Lincoln Motor Company" in a vain attempt to disguise the fact that modern Lincolns are overpriced rebadged Ford product that couldn't sell at the Ford dealer.  Ford is attempting to fix the lackluster sales by a marketing schmuck driven slight of hand, but intelligent folks in the aftermarket have already fixed the issue.  Fixing a Lincoln can be as easy as shoehorning a Corvette engine into the front, such is the case with this 2002 Lincoln LS for sale in Frankfort, IN for $13,000 via craigslist.

5k Flash: 1971 Triumph Spitfire

The Triumph Spitfire had a typically long reign from 1962-1980 (for cheap British cars and house of Windsor monarchs) with few major changes from its Mk1 release in 1962 through slow and excruciating death in sync with demise of the British auto manufacturing industry in 1980.  The earlier examples are better looking, lighter and more collectable, but this 1971 Triumph Spitfire Mk IV looks to be in great shape in Lincoln, NE and for a fair price of $4000 (via craigslist).  (Thanks to tip from Andrew L)

LAAS: LA Auto Show Pics

Our resident LA Auto show interloper snapped a few photos with an iphone (posted most of those) and a DSLR - and we figured we'd share the good ones with our readers.  Link here.

5k: 1967 BMW 2000 CS Coupe

We've featured BMW Neue Klasse coupes in the past, but the previous listing was a disaster of titanic proportions - and  literally titanic levels of rust/grime/barnacles covering every surface.  Today's feature is much more clean, this 1967 BMW 2000 CS Coupe found on kijiji in Toronto, ON, Canada and looks in remarkably nice condition for the $4150 CDN asking price.

5k Flash: 1991 Toyota MR2 w/V6 Swap

The 2nd generation Toyota MR2 was produced from 1989-1999 and powered by a inline 4 in naturally aspirated or turbocharged configurations.  The NA version was downright slow and the turbo version requires high revvs to keep it in boost and out of turbo lag zone.  Swap in a 3.0 liter Toyota V6 and the car is transformed with ample low end torque and enough horsepower to keep it entertaining.  This 1991 Toyota Mister Two has recieved a 3VZ-FE swap and is for sale in Athens, AL for $4,000 via craigslist.

5k: 1966 Ford Falcon Futura Wagon

DT is all about great driving cars, but its also about getting the kids to and from all their appointments and... hauling parts! This 1966 Ford Falcon Futura found in Marina del Ray, CA via Craigslist can certainly handle all those tasks while keeping its new owner well insulated from the high cost of ultra rare replacement parts for the low asking price of $7500.

5k: 1984 Pontiac Fiero w/3.8 V6 Supercharged

The name Fiero means proud in Italian (not flammable like we were told many years ago) or ferocious in Spanish - neither of which apply particularly well to a stock Fiero.  Still, it was nice to see General Motors attempt to keep up with the Japanese by building a mid-engined sports-car for the masses and we have to applaud the effort.  The Fiero would be a much better car with a more meaty lump shoved into the back and that is exactly what the seller of this 1984 Pontiac Fiero with 3.8 liter supercharged V6 did, and it was being sold on ebay, but failed to meet the reserve at $4,450 - but expect this to come back to ebay with a more realistic reserve.

15k: 1986 Honda City Turbo II w/ Motocompo Scooter

The Honda City was a subcompact car for the Japanese market - not quite small enough to be classified as a Kei-car, but a miniature little runabout with a surprising amount of space on the inside.  The base City was not a fast car, but that was before Mugen Founder Hirotoshi Honda (son of Honda founder Soichiro Honda) created a wild Turbo version for the local market.  This first generation (AA) 1986 Honda City Turbo II is for sale in Phoenix, AZ for $15,000 buy-it-now on ebay (Thanks to tip from DT reader Andrew L).

5k: 1993 BMW E36 325i Sedan with 2JZGTE TwinTurbo Engine Swap - Ultimate Sleeper

The E36 BMW was sold as the ultimate yuppie transport from 1992-1999 and while its handling was always lauded as balanced and fun, it could never be accused of being fast in a drag race - even the ///M3 version.  However, we think that shoehorning one of the worlds most tunable twin-turbo powerplants into a ratty looking sedan E36 is just about the definition of 'sleeper' - and its exactly happened to today's featured car.  This 1993 BMW 325i sedan has a 2JZGTE twin-turbo engine from the JDM Aristo (very similar to the USDM Supra engine) shoved into the engine bay and is current bidding on ebay at $5,402 with 2 days to go (located in SLC, Utah).

10k Flash: 1986 Porsche 944 Racer with LS1 V8 + Enclosed Trailer

The Porsche 944 was a mid market sports coupe from the makers of the 911 and was sold from 1982-1991.  Equipped with a 50:50 weight distribution and Porsche engineering chassis/suspension means that it's always been lauded for its fantastic handling, but saddled with a number of boat anchor inline 4 cylinder engines and even the turbo is a bit of a dog.  However, the seller of this 1986 Porsche 944 has swapped in an LS1 V8 into the front and turned it into a racecar and is selling it on ebay, (along with a trailer) currently bidding at $7,100 reserve-not-met with 1 day to go.
