SR20DET Powered: 1997 Subaru Impreza GC8

This next car comes as a tip from Art C who writes: Haha, a Nibaru? Sussan? Any way you put it, I bet it'll be fast and very sideways with a  little work. Assume around 275whp with the SR20 at reasonable boost levels, and about 2700 lbs on the GC8 with the AWD hardware removed, and probably pretty close to 50/50 weight distribution and you have a nice track toy. Find this 1997 Subaru Impreza offered for $5000 in Hartford, CT via craigslist.

SE-R cousin- 1999 Infiniti G20

The second generation Infiniti G20 undeservedly flies under the radar screen of most used car shoppers.  They are superb values that avoid the Honda and Toyota tax found on buying used Civics and Corollas.  The G20 comes with the tuner friendly Nissan SR20 4 cylinder engine and has a interior that is better equipped and more upmarket than the competition.  Find this 1999 Infiniti G20 for sale in Oakdale, NY for $2,000 via Long Island craigslist.

Unholy Matrimony- 1985 Mercedes 190e SR20det swap

The Mercedes Cosworth 190e 16v successfully competed alongside the famed E30 M3 in 1980's DTM events.  According to James May from Top Gear, former F1 driver Martin Brundle is to have said that the 190e, “had one of the best chassis ever fitted to a four-door saloon.” The USA spec Mercedes 190e was available with multiple different gas and diesel engines though none of them are particularly easy to modify for more power (superturbodiesels excluded).  Find this 1985 190e for sale in Greenfield, WI for $6,000 via Craigslist.

12 Second Sleeper: 1998 Nissan 200SX

In 1995 Nissan recycled the 200SX badge (previously used on the rear-drive S12 Silvia) for a 2-door version of the B14 Sentra that was known as the Lucino in Japan. The 200SX was available in Base/SE trim with a 1.6 liter GA16DE, or SE-R with the 2.0 liter SR20DE -- both with 5-speed manual gearbox mated to the front with viscous LSD in the SE-R version -- a decently sporty proposition in the mid 90s.  Times change, so this next 200SX has been given an injection of speed with a few bolt on parts and can run 12.7 seconds in the 1/4 mile.  Zoom zoom indeed.  Find this 1998 Nissan 200SX offered for $2,500 in Norwalk, CT via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

SHIFT_classic: 1971 Datsun 510 Wagon

Back when Honda and Toyota were trying to figure out what they should offer for the North American market there was a little company called Nissan that was heavy into the SCCA racing scene with their Datsun brand and sold a decent number of sporty coupes, sedans, and wagons.  Find this 1971 Datsun 510 Wagon offered for $6,000 in Bakersfield, CA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

7k: Welcome to America: 1993 Nissan Pulsar GTI-R

The homologation-satisfying GTI-R treatment tarted up Nissan's dopey Pulsar with revealing bodywork that left little to the imagination, ATTESA all-wheel drive, and the famous SR20DET. Weighing 2,690 pounds with 83% of the horsepower of an R32 GT-R, it's as fast as it is flashy on the rally circuit. The U.S. never got one, but a few wash up on our shores to fulfill the American dream of hill jumping and mud spraying. Find this 1993 Nissan Pulsar GTI-R in Washington, D.C. for $7,000 via craigslist.

10k: Seller Submission: 1967 Volvo 122S Amazon With Nissan SR20DET Swap

The Volvo 122S/Amazon is a 50's styled classic Volvo that (usually) doesn't cost an arm/leg to purchase, drive or restore.  Recent questionable market transactions have suggested otherwise, but the vast majority of 122S/Amazons around are still good deals.  Today's 122S/Amazon isn't just a good deal, it is a crazy restomodded hot rod with a turbo Nissan engine.  Find this 1967 Volvo 122S SR20DET Power for sale in Mission Hills, CA currently bidding on ebay for $5,100 with a 5 days to go.  Seller submission from Oprah85.

5k: Drive It Like You Hate It: 1967 Volvo 122S Amazon with SR20DET

The SR20DET was an SR series, 2.0 liter, dual-overhead cam, electronic fuel injected and turbocharged engine from Nissan that was used in the Pulsar, Silvia, Bluebird, 180SX, Sunny, etc.  The SR20DET was never officially imported for the US market, but many engines have come in grey market, used or built from scratch in all sorts of hot rods.  I've never seen one in a Volvo before - but a small turbo-4 seems to make more sense than some big heavy domestic V8 and fits with Volvo's later turbocharged product lines.  Find this 1967 Volvo 122S Amazon with SR20DET for sale in Rancho Cordova, CA for $6,500 via craigslist.

5k: Banana Yellow Bluebird: 1972 Datsun 510 w/SR20DET Swap; Some Assy Required

The Nissan Bluebird was sold as the Datsun 510 from 1968 to 1973 and has a reputation as a poor man's BMW 2002.  Equipped with a stock engine and suspension, the 510 isn't thrilling to drive, but bolt on some go-fast goodies and the 2200 lb chassis comes alive.  Find this 1972 Datsun 510 with SR20DET engine partially installed, currently bidding on ebay for $5,300 with 4 days to go and located in Frisco, TX.

5k: Time Change Special; 1974 Datsun 260Z w/ SR20DET

The second installment for Daily Turismo's Time Change Tuesday feature is an entry from the far east.  The S30 generation Datsun Z car was first released for the US market in 1970 and lived until 1978 with each few years bringing bigger bumpers and less power. Consequently, the earlier cars generally command more money.  But that isn't to say a later car equipped with a proper engine swap can't pique our interest.  This 1974 Datsun 260Z is powered by an SR20DET turbocharged 4-banger and is available in Stafford, VA, currently bidding on ebay for $5,100 with 4 days to go.
