It is Thorsday -- time for something Scandinavian -- how about a Volvo 122 Amazon that looks like it has scabies needs some attention?  The Amazon (or 120 series as it was known at home) was designed by Volvo designer Jan Wilsgaard, who was inspired by 1950s American cars when he designed the shape of the little sedan in the mid 50s.  Production of the Amazon started in 1956 and continued all the way through 1970 -- get a later car to benefit from additional development.  Find this 1967 Volvo 122 Amazon offered for $2,500 in Santa Fe, NM.  Friend of the seller submission by Philip.

The Volvo Amazon is a mid-sized classic frequently seen on the pages of DT because it is inexpensive and built like a tank.  With the stock engine it will be heifer slow and the stock suspension makes it handle like a pregnant cow, so we prefer a lightly restomodded version for basic transportation.  Find this 1963 Volvo 122/Amazon 2-door for sale in Portland, OR for $6,200 via craigslist. 5k: Drive It Like You Hate It: 1967 Volvo 122S Amazon with SR20DET

The SR20DET was an SR series, 2.0 liter, dual-overhead cam, electronic fuel injected and turbocharged engine from Nissan that was used in the Pulsar, Silvia, Bluebird, 180SX, Sunny, etc.  The SR20DET was never officially imported for the US market, but many engines have come in grey market, used or built from scratch in all sorts of hot rods.  I've never seen one in a Volvo before - but a small turbo-4 seems to make more sense than some big heavy domestic V8 and fits with Volvo's later turbocharged product lines.  Find this 1967 Volvo 122S Amazon with SR20DET for sale in Rancho Cordova, CA for $6,500 via craigslist.

47 of 50: Kimberly: 1966 Volvo 122 Amazon Wagon

The DT staffs spends a good portion of the day dreaming drinking the wagon flavored kool-aid, so of course we had to include a Volvo wagon on the list.  The Volvo 122 (aka Amazon) is one of those rock-steady-reliable platforms from our Swedish friends and it carried its 50s styling from introduction in 1956 to obsolesce in 1970.  That is an awfully long period of time for a car to look the same, especially in the hyperactive 50s/60s when most cars changed visually year-to-year, but the Volvo 122 didn't care.  Find this 1966 Volvo 122 Amazon wagon for sale in Houston, TX currently bidding on ebay for $8,100 with 3 days to go.
