Only One Around: 1954 Moskvitch 400

What happens when you take the design of the pre-war German built Opel Kadett and combine it with the capabilities of the Moscovskiy Zavod Malolitrazhnyh Avtomobiley (Moscow Factory for Making Small Cars) and the direction from Joseph Stalin himself...?  It isn't entirely clear to me, but I'm sure it involved many knocks on doors in the middle of the night before the Moskvitch 400 got to 50 mph.  Find this 1954 Moskvitch 400 offered for $3,950 in Hunlock Creek, PA via craigslist. KGB Black: 1979 Lada 2101 Zhiguli

The Lada/VAZ 2101 was compact sedan built by AvtoVAZ starting in 1970 for Eastern Bloc needs.  It doesn't have the reliability of a classic German car, the handling of a British classic, or the speed of something domestic, but it has the undeniable cool factor of a Soviet sedan.  Find this 1979 Lada 2101 Zhiguli offered for $10,500 in Marco Island, FL via craigslist.  Tip from Dascpcu.

Trumped Up: 1989 Tatra 613

I'm sure it is only a coincidence with the new administration in the White House, but I've noticed a recent uptick in the number of cars being offered from ex-Soviet bloc members on USA ebay.  Most of the Volgas and Gazs are just not interesting enough to get my attention (many are some kind of Fiat), but a rear engined aircooled V8 fastbackish 4-door?  Da, now I'm interested.  Find this 1989 Tatra 613 here on eBay bidding for $6,700 with 5 days to go, located in Cherry Hill, NJ.

You're Putin Me On: 1980 ZAZ-968A

Back in 1980 if you were a new hire at the CIA, you had numerous choices for your First Real Car.  However, if you were a young KGB Officer, your choices consisted of some warmed over Fiats and strange indigenous People's Cars.  Find this 1980 ZAZ-968A for sale in Issaquah, WA for $9,750 via craigslist.

1992 Lada Niva Truck

Utility is on par with strange proportions in this Nova Scotian assembled Lada Niva pickup truck. Although not really a rarity in the global car economy, the Lada Niva pickup is the Fabergé egg of the AutoVAZ offerings here in North America. by Adam -- Occasionally you just want to drive something unique or different. To not see the same make or model next to you, across the light from you, in front and behind in the carpool lane. Well the more I think about that the only way to get a car that unique is to go where the population had few choices, but choices we didn't have here.  While I don't see why you can't import three cheaper and have a daily driver, track car and parts car in one shipping container along with a family of gypsies than this example you probably won't find another Lada in the parking lot at the PTA meeting. Get one and sell later to the hipsters for profit. Find this 1983 Lada VAZ 2101 in Atlanta on Craigslist for $6,499.  

Monkey Business: 2012 Ural Gear-Up

Retro is in and if you want a retro Brit bike you can look to Triumph and its retro-look Bonneville or if you prefer some Italian, Moto Guzzi has its V7 II.  If you want German however, you need to look east to Mother Russia and Ural.  Find this 2012 Ural Gear-Up in Albany, OR for $10,000 via craigslist.

Some Importation Required: 1969 GAZ 21 Volga

The GAZ (Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod aka Го́рьковский автомоби́льный заво́д) 21 Volga was first released in 1956 as "the Star" (Zhukovka), restyled in 1958 as "the Shark" (Akula) and finally retooled in 1962 as "the Baleen" (Kitovy Us).  The nicknames were based on the grill shapes used and l;et-me-tell-ya, krill will go running when they see this thing roll up to a stop light.  Find this 1969 GAZ 21 Volga here on eBay offered for $12,000 buy-it-now or make-offer located in Klaipėda, Lithuania with 2 days to go.

10k: Take Your Pick: 1980 VAZ-2103 or 1981 VAZ-2106 (Lada 1500/1600)

The recent Bomberismo feature on the a Tupolev 95 (commonly called the Tupolev Tu-95, but that seems redundant, like saying Chevrolet Chevy Corvette) generated a fair bit of conversation, mostly around the logistics of getting the Bear into the USA and I have it on good authority that several of our readers are James Bond villains who need a flying super-fortress.  One commenter, however, asked us a favor...

In Soviet Russia, some time you buy vodka to get bombed, other time you buy bomber to get vodka...or...invade Ukraine.
