Some Assembly Required: 1968 Volvo 1800S

The Volvo P1800/1800S/1800E/1800ES is a regular offender on these pages -- why, you ask?  Simply put, it offers a combination of good looks, acceptable performance, and reliability for a low entry price.  It isn't the only option in town for a budget classic, but it makes a bunch of sense when you compare to some of the other overpriced European cars on the market.  Find this 1968 Volvo 1800S here on eBay bidding for $1,613 with 1 day to go, located in Renton, WA.
If you think this car is going to be a quick wash 'n' flip, you'll need to think again.  However, if you are the kind of guy who enjoys mechanical work but abhors the idea of paint/body work, it might make some fiscal sense.  This would make the perfect 2-car garage project for a father/son team with simple hand tools and a few years of spare time.


If the body/paint is good (and that is indeed a big if), this could be well purchased at the sub $2k bidding right now.  The biggest question from this adult jigsaw puzzle is: is anything missing?  Glass, rubber, interior, wiring, and trim all need to re-installed, and if anything is missing you might need to open your pocketbook.

      You know, with a wiring diagram and an afternoon or two, it really shouldn't be that bad to get re-wired (assuming you're not color-blind).

    The person who steals this at even double or triple the price is getting a deal, providing the work is done to a high standard.

    It's not just what's missing, it's what's broken, or needs repair. However, if the body work is decent, I'd take it on.

    No indication of engine status, though... other than it's sitting in the engine bay.

    This is a big project, but not a hard one. Every part us available and the only problem they really had was rust, so if it's fixed and painted right you will have a good one. One note is the hood and trunk are in primer and they have the paint. On a top notch paint job, they may never match.

      Some tastefully selected racing stripes will either call it out or help to disguise any slight mismatch
