Brown Style: 1982 Mazda 626 Coupe

The original Mazda 626 named was first applied to a front-engine rear-drive sedan/coupe in 1978.  The 626 was known as the Capella in its home market, but over here in the land of the free, it was Mazda's mid sized offering with a focus on luxury.  Find this 1982 Mazda 626 Coupe here on eBay bidding for $4,050 with 2 days to go, located in Pullyaup, WA.

This 626 is claimed to be a one "little old lady owned" classic with only 51k miles on the odometer.  The original Teddy Bear brown paint looks really nice (this was in the time before the Japanese introduced multi-stage paint jobs that lasted about as long as engine oil) and even the bumpers look undamaged -- did the "little old lady" ever drive this thing around?


Mazda didn't use their rotary in the 626, instead they used the MA-series inline-4, which made about 80 horsepower from its 2 liters when new.  Mated to a 3-speed automatic will make driving this car a very leisurely experience.

    These were a remarkably boring car back when they were built, but at a point when Toyota and Nissan-freshly-rebranded-from-Datsun were going FWD and even MORE boring (remember the early '80s Camrys and Stanzas? Yeah, Lego Cars) I guess by present standards it looks like a cheap E30 or a big AE86.

    This one is just down the hill from me i like these but motor's seem to blow head gaskets's a bit.
