The builder of the Jaguar V12 powered Corvair called it the Jaguair, which sounds much better than Corvag, but neither convey the awesome that is a V12 front engine'd Vair that looks 100% stock from the outside. Read more about it here on Corvaircorsa.
The swap of the future will be the 2.3 liter EcoBoost inline-4 that is currently scheduled to be put in the 2015 Ford Mustang. The EcoBoost engine will be rated at least 300 horsepower in the Mustang and would be perfect to swap into a Fox body Ford Mustang SVO from the 80s.

ReplyDeleteAston Martin V12 in a Jaguar XK12C with a 6-speed sequential gearbox is one I'd like to see (and own and drive). Couple of odd ones I've seen are Jaguar DOHC six in a vintage sports-racing Ferrari (glad to say later restored with its original Ferrari V12) and a Jag six again in a Chevy 3/4-ton 4x4 pickup! That one was later replaced by a Cadillac V8. Worse than these (which were at least cool engines) was a Willys L-head 4-cyl engine in an MG TD. Ugh!

ReplyDeleteEasily the craziest swap I've see was when I was 13 in the mid '60s in a quarter car wash in Los Angeles. There was a Corvair van in the next stall with the door open and inside was a V8. I'd heard of such swaps before and went over for a better look and saw there were two nailhead Buicks in line! I talked with the guy a bit but don't remember much more than that he worked for Arias Pistons. He did an incredible smoky, fishtailing burnout for me when he left.

That would be perfect for my Volvo 1800ES along with a Mustang II suspension for the rack & pinion steering.

DeleteUntil you try to race it and it showed its stripes are full blown. A stock Tiger would be hard pressed to catch it with 300HP and a 6 spd. Other Fords like Cortinas, Falcons and early Mustangs will also benefit anyone looking for a bolt in using Ford components and (as Rene points out) a Mustang II front end.
DeleteI was working at an insurance company in Ohio in the mid-70's in underwriting when I got a call from an agent. With great hesitation he said he wanted to insure a client's Opel GT. After an agonizingly long set of questions trying to find out why the agent felt he needed permission to insure an Opel GT, I finally asked, "What engine is in it?"

Opel GT with a V12 airplane engine in it, you say? Did it look like this, this, and/or this? Here's link to a story about the fun people were having with these engines in the 50's and 60's, putting them in cars, boats, trikes, tractors and a BMW Isetta.

ReplyDeleteIsn't the biggest SHO/Yahaha engine the one that was tucked quietly into the Volvo XC90? 308 HP. Sweet engine, very robust and with the Volvo AWD gets incredible gas mileage hauling a heavy load.
DeleteBut the SHO EcoBoost 3.5L V6 makes 365hp easily in stock trim :-D and much more with slightly bigger turbos. I worked on this engine for Ford back during development in 2006. I still like it.
