The Dodge Aspen (and Plymouth Volaré) was the successor to the popular Dodge Dart platform and was bestowed with the 1976 Car of the Year award by Motor Trend. The Aspen won't be headlining any auctions at Barrett-Jackson or Mecum in the near future, but it looks oddly cool in R/T trim and was surprisingly quick when new. The Aspen R/T with the optional 360 cubic inch V8 was rated at 180 horsepower and 280 ft-lbs of torque -- and was about as fast to 60mph from a standstill as a contemporary Camaro Z28 and Corvette L82. No word on if this car is equipped with the basic 318 V8 or the optional 360, but perhaps an Aspen expert can chime in the comments based on the seller's pics.
Somehow the louvers on the 1/4 windows, chrome wheels and the R/T stripes really work well with the black paint.

The blacked out bumpers actually improve the looks quite a bit over the original chrome.

ReplyDeletei just saw one of these at my local dragstrip in orange and yellow running mid 10s in the 1/4 mile.. obviously not stock. this car looked clean til i saw the under hood and interior. this is a $2500 car at best.
