Thunderchicken Apocalypse: 1978 Pontiac Firebird

It has been a few years (2010 to be precise) since the Firebird marque (along with the entire Pontiac lineup) was tossed away like a used Volkswagen coil pack.  Pontiac enthusiasts and 80s detective show enthusiasts alike will gravitate toward the Rockford era Firebird Forumla...and that isn't a bad thing at all because the Thunderchicken is the greatest thing to ever be on the hood of an automobile. Find this 1978 Pontiac Firebird here on eBay offered for $9,999 in Athens, TN.

Big Bird: 1977 Pontiac Firebird TransAm

Do you remember how terrible the cars were in the late 1970s?  No?  You've forgotten?  Great!  Time to pick up a classic from the disco era and re-live those fantasies about how great cars were "back in the day."  Find this 1977 Pontiac Firebird TransAm offered for $13,999 in San Antonio, TX via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Won't Be Reborn: 2002 Pontiac Firebird TransAm WS6

Production of Pontiac's Firebird ended in 2002 when the F-body was finally put to pasture and replaced by the Zeta chassis Camaro a few years later.  Unfortunately, the carpocalypse claimed the Pontiac marque, which means we won't see a Firebird TransAm version of the current Camaro.  A pity, because the Firebird was always cooler than the Camaro.  Find this 2002 Pontiac Firebird TransAm WS6 offered for $16,995 from a dealer in Westfield, IN.  Tip from Jeff G.

15k: Bandit Twins: Two 1979 Pontiac Firebird TransAms

These two identical-ish black and gold Smokey (not Smoky) and the Bandit Trans Ams went up on SF Bay Area craigslist and are only a couple of miles apart. That deserves a compero... except, hang on, these are 79's and Smokey's TA was a 77. Unless you mean SatB2, but that was an 80 (and forget about SatB3...okay, an 82).  Tip from KBZ.

5k: Pace Carpocalypse: 1980 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Pace Car, Turbo 4.9 V8

The 2nd generation Pontiac Firebird was sold from 1970 through 1981 - bridging the gap from the height of the muscle car madness through the worst of malaise era.  When the gas/oil/emission crisis hit, the power densities dropped and giant winged bird hood emblems took over for actual performance.  When the big Pontiac 6.6 liter giant finally was laid to rest it was replaced with a 4.9 liter turbocharged V8 that was down 10 horsepower but up on low end torque.  Find this 1980 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Pace Car, Turbo 4.9 V8 for sale in Vancouver, BC for $3,000 CDN.  Tip from Bandit on oppositelock.

5k: BYOW: 1979 Pontiac Firebird TransAm Thunderchicken, Low Miles

Yesterday's post on the V8lvo Craigslist Trifecta highlighted three of the four horsemen of the Craigslist apocalypse (CAPT'N CAPSLOCK, Too Much Too List & No Engine/Trans) but clearly missing was the fourth and favorite horseman "Bring Your Own Wheels."  Seriously, who sells a car without wheels?  Apparently lots of people, as we stumble upon pricing based on with/without wheels all over craigslist.  Find this 1979 Pontiac TransAm Thunderchicken for sale by Bring Your Own Wheels in Alameda, CA for $5,000 via craigslist. Tip from Kaibeezy.

Trades Only Monster TruckAm; 1970ish Pontiac Firebird TransAm

The second generation Pontiac Firebird TransAm was built from 1970 to 1981.  It was an evolution of the classic muscle car and featured a lineup of front mounted V8s, a sporty 2+2 body and rear wheel drive...at least until someone raises it 6 feet and mounts it on tractor tires.  This undisclosed model year Pontiac Firebird TransAm monster truck is offered along with a supercharger (currently attached to another vehicle) in exchange for a 1st or 2nd gen Camaro in Denver, CO via craigslist.

15k: 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am - Minty Clean

We at the daily turismo would like to apologize for the 1978 Firebird we posted the other day - it is a horrible car, slow, high miles, bad ad and non-numbers matching.  To make amends - we are proud to present this 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am located in Glen Ellyn, IL, for sale at $13,900 buy-it-now on ebay.

15k: 1978 Pontiac Firebird TA 'Thunder Chicken'

In the late 70s the gas crisis and EPA mandated emissions laws were throttling the power out of muscle cars. Ford had abandoned all rational thought the turned the Mustang into a Vega - and Pontiac needed a way to keep folks buying their Firebird - so they did the only logical thing:  decorate the hood with a gigantic decal of a winged bird - the "Thunder Chicken".  This 1978 Firebird Trans Am is for sale on ebay for $14,500 and located in Traer, IL.
