Run To The Bank: 1989 Volvo 245 Wagon 5.0 turbo 5 speed

Most any V8 swapped rwd Volvo is worthy of being featured here at DT, but today's example is the creme de la creme of the breed.  This wagon has it all and it's turbo charged 5.0 Ford goes the extra mile to poo-poo any naysayer who says these swaps are not that fast by 2018 measures.  I am not sure how much boost a Fox body era 302 can withstand, but it would be a lot of fun to find out.  Find this 1989 Volvo 245 wagon for sale in Blacksburg, VA for $5,500 via craigslist.  Tip from Molotovmotors.

DT Favorite: 1984 Volvo 240 5.0

V8 engine swaps into square edged 240/740/940 rear wheel drive Volvos never get old or go out of style here at DT.  A certain something about any of these swaps makes them quite delicious.  It could be the Letterman/Newman connection or that these are the ultimate Walter Mitty car.  Today's example is on the lower end of the price range for one of these swaps and has a few minuses against it in terms of scoring and desirability- not a wagon, has an auto transmission, and uses a relatively mild Ford 302 engine.  Find this 1984 Volvo 240 for sale in Montauk, NY for $3,500 via craigslist.

Family truckster- 1990 Ford Country Squire Wagon

Nothing exudes class more than simulated wood grain down the side of a 216" long car.  The introduction of 1984 Chrysler Minivans took out the breed of full sized American made wagons like an asteroid hit did to the dinosaurs.  The panther based Ford Country Squire wagon had its final curtain call in 1990.  Ford only found 6419 buyers this year, making this a pretty rare car. Squad Car: 1985 Ford LTD Police Sedan

There is something inherently cool about used service vehicles - it doesn't matter if it was a street sweeper or a mine sweeper, but the idea of getting industrial grade stuff for a consumer use is intriguing.  Used police cars also fit into this category; they were equipped with heavier duty shocks, sway bars, and all kinds of stuff not available at your local dealer.  Find this 1985 Ford LTD Police Sedan here on eBay with a starting bid of $3,500 located in Livermore, CA with auction ending on Christmas day.

The Volvo 200 series lasted for a multi-decade production span starting way back in the hazy 70s and only ending when it was popular to "talk to the hand" (1993).  Less boxy cars needed complete redesigns to meet periodic new safety standards, but the 240/260 was build decades ahead of the competition in terms of safety - resulting in an iconic boxy Volvo shape that defined the marque for a few generations.  The biggest thing missing from the boxy is power and that can be easily solved if you've got the time...but why not pickup someone elses swapped box and save yourself the time and money.  Find this 1985 Volvo 245 Wagon with V8 swap here on craigslist offered for $3,000 in Tacoma, WA.

10k: Ratsun Datstang: 1970 Datsun 521 Pickup V8 Swap

The E36 generation BMW 3-series is one of the better handling cars you can pick up for cheap and the chassis makes an excellent starting point for a hot rod.  We've seen a number of GM/LSX powered E36s, but the Ford enthusiasts would do something silly like use the 5.0 V8 to create the ultimate low buck E36V8.  Find this 1995 BMW 325is with Ford 5.0 V8 in an undisclosed location, offered for $11,400 via pelicanparts forums.  Tip from David K.
