A Full 460 Woody: 1976 Ford LTD Country Squire

There are few things more liberating memorable than taking a full sized American station wagon on a cross country road trip.  Your suit cases are piled on the top, your kids are piled in the back, and a stack of maps is piled in the glovebox.  My parents had one of these when I was a kid and I can remember the miles just flying by...actually the rear was so rusty that we could actually see the miles zipping by underfoot...so its probably a miracle that we never died of carbon monoxide poisoning, thank a busted AC for windows always rolled down.  Ahhh...good times.  Make your own good times with this 1976 Ford Country Squire offered for $5,500 in Deposit, NY via hemmings. Tip from BP.

Family truckster- 1990 Ford Country Squire Wagon

Nothing exudes class more than simulated wood grain down the side of a 216" long car.  The introduction of 1984 Chrysler Minivans took out the breed of full sized American made wagons like an asteroid hit did to the dinosaurs.  The panther based Ford Country Squire wagon had its final curtain call in 1990.  Ford only found 6419 buyers this year, making this a pretty rare car. Find this 1990 Ford Country Squire for sale in Stamford, CT for $1200 via craigslist.

20k: Custom Dually Wagon: 1972 Ford Country Squire

A few years ago I had this TV that would stick between channels, the image would become a blurred amalgam of two channels, and the consequences could be interesting.  Gilligan as Tom Selleck in Magnum's Private Island was bad enough, but the time National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation got jumbled with Duck Dynasty was amazing, and this is what the bearded Griswold family drove as their family truckster.  Find this 1972 Ford Country Squire Custom offered for $22,000 in San Diego, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rob "The Hack Mechanic".

5k: Woodie Wagon: 1965 Ford Galaxie Country Squire

The third generation Ford Galaxie (1965-1968) was a full-sized sedan/wagon that occupied the a higher bracket of Ford badged full-size vehicles (just below the LTD.)  The Galaxie was visually recognizable by its stacked headlights (a design element that was cascaded down to smaller Fords) and it sold well during its lifespan.  The wagon was badged as the Country Squire when it was covered in fake wood, and this next example looks like a good bang for the buck.  Find this 1965 Ford Galaxie Country Squire Wagon offered here on eBay currently bidding for $7,200 with 1 day to go, located in Coventry, CT.

5k: Seller Submission: 1967 Ford Galaxie Country Squire Wagon

The 3rd generation Ford Galaxie was a full-sized sedan introducing in 1965 with all new styling. Visually recognizable by the groovy stacked headlights that were cascaded down to smaller Fords, the Galaxie sold well until the next facelift.  The Galaxie wagon was badged as the Country Squire or Country Sedan depending on if it was covered in fake wood --either way it makes a great big family hauler/weekend cruiser.  Find this 1967 Ford Galaxie Country Squire Wagon offered for $4,000 in Tiverton, RI via craigslist.  Seller submission from Art.

10k: 1966 Ford Country Squire

The Ford Country Squire was a full sized station wagon build on Ford's Galaxy platform  (and later the LTD).  The fourth generation Country Squire (1965-1968), based on the third generation Galaxy, was available with a smorgasbord variety of engine options and Ford's nifty magic door gate (more on that later).  This 1966 Ford Country Squire has been through a major restoration and is avialable in Los Angeles, CA for $11,300 via craigslist.
