Blue Monday: 1989 Chrysler Conquest TSI

This net car comes from Jeff who writes: When I was in high school, a friend's parents had one of these and since then I've always been a fan. My only gripe is the failed joint venture between Chrysler and Cadillac, as those seats should have never been in anything other than an Eldorado. #WTF  Find this 1989 Chrysler Conquest TSI offered for $9500 in South Florida via craigslist.

Three Stars: 1988 Mitsubishi Starion

If you want a rear drive Japanese classic from the 1980s, the choice is usually between a Celica Supra, RX-7, or 240/280SX...but don't fret, because there is another Skywalker!!  And this 80s Japanese classic comes from the land of the three water chestnuts.  Find this 1988 Mitsubishi Starion offered for $5,500 in Chandler, AZ via craigslist. Imported for Dodge: 1986 Dodge Conquest Technica

Back in the mid 1980s if you wanted a Mitsubishi with a turbo engine in the front and rear wheel drive, you had four cars to choose from -- the Mitsubishi Starion, Dodge Conquest, Plymouth Conquest, and Chrysler Conquest...but they were really the same car with different badges. The biggest difference between models was the availability of an intercooler and widebody, but the best way to get the flatty narrow body and an intercooler is with the Technica version of the Conquest.  Find this 1986 Dodge Conquest Technica here on eBay offered for $5,900 buy-it-now or make-offer located in Dalton, WI with 4 days to go. Tip from SecondMouse.

Snorkus Maximus: 1987 Mitsubishi Starion V8 Swap

The Mitsubishi Starion/Dodge Conquest/Plymouth Conquest/Chrysler Conquest was a line of rear-driven sports coupes built in the 80s by Mitsubishi in Japan.  The Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler versions were just a light re-badge to trick "domestic only" buyers into picking up something from the land of the rising sun. The guise worked and quite a few of the Dodge/Chrysler versions were sold and the future of Chrysler/Mitsubishi motors eventually gave birth to Diamond Star Motors (DSM).  Find this 1987 Mitsubishi Starion V8 Swap offered for $3,500 in Ft Myers, FL via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

80's Muscle: 1988 Chrysler Conquest Tsi

by Cory --How many boxes does this list check off on your buyers list- two doors, chiseled good looks, rear wheel drive, turbo charged and intercooled engine, box fender flares, multi channel eq stereo, recaro-esque seating, limited slip rear end, and staggered tires? On paper, the 1988 Chrysler Conquest TSi brings a lot to the table. This Conquest is even listed as a rare 1980's muscle car. This description is debatable, but the car certainly presents very well.

5k: 'Merican Iron In A Japanese Dodge: 1986 Dodge Conquest TSI V8 Swap

The Dodge Conquest was a badge engineered version of the Mitsubishi Starion and part of the Japanese onslaught of turbocharged and fuel injected pony cars that ended when things got out of hand in the late 1990s.  Originally powered by a 2.6 liter inline-4, this one is now a fuel burning V8 powered Mustang hunter.  Find this 1986 Dodge Conquest TSI V8 Swap offered for $4,500 in Alliance, OH.  Tip from FuelTruck.

7k: A Pair of Starion-Crossed Turbos: 1989 Mitsubishi Starion, 2JZ-powered

Press the throttle a few inches in a normal Mitsubishi Starion (or Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth Conquest) and you'll get lag, followed by nice sounds, and then adequate thrust. However, "adequate" is one of those relative terms, like "sanity," in that it's always open for interpretation. Where a 2.6 liter 4G54 Astron engine once trundled in this Starion is now under authority by the twin-turbo, 3-liter legend, the 2JZ-GTE. And it comes with a classy maroon headliner. Find this 1989 Mitsubishi Starion with Supra inline-6 in Orlando, FL for $6,995 with five days to go via eBay.

5k: Fatty: 1987 Chrysler Conquest

The Mitsubishi Starion/Dodge Conquest/Plymouth Conquest/Chrysler Conquest was a line of rear-driven sports coupes built in the 80s by Mitsubishi in Japan.  The Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler versions were just a light re-badge to trick "domestic only" buyers into picking up something from the land of the rising sun. The guise worked and quite a few of the Dodge/Chrysler versions were sold and the future of Chrysler/Mitsubishi motors eventually gave birth to Diamond Star Motors (DSM).  Find this 1987 Chrysler Conquest offered for $5,000 in Wausau, WI via craigslist.  Tip from Pushrod.

15k: Starion Gazing: 1987 Chrysler-Mitsubishi Conquest-Starion Quartet

The Mitsubishi Starion/Dodge Conquest/Plymouth Conquest/Chrysler Conquest was a line of 4 cars built in the 80s by Mitsubishi in Japan - rebadged for Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler to confuse everyone.  It was the Japanese version of a pony car and combined a turbocharged front engine, manual trans, rear wheel drive and limited slip differentials for classic fun.  Contrary to popular belief the name Starion was not an Engrish mispronunciation of Stallion, but it is a contraction of the words Star of Orion.  It would be easy to compare a nice version of the Starion to a Mustang, Camaro, Porsche 944 or RX7...but today, we will compare a Starion to three more Starions.  Welcome to Starion gazing, where we are going to look at three 1987 and one 1986 Mitsubishi Starions, all for sale in the SF Bay Area, CA.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

10k: Low Mile Original Owner: 1986 Chrysler Conquest

The Chrysler Conquest was a re-badged version of the Mitsubishi Starion and offered turbocharged Japanese GT style that was at least as cool as a contemporary Mazda RX-7, Toyota  Supra and Nissan Z-car.  Contrary to popular belief the name Starion was not an Engrish mispronunciation of Stallion, but it is a contraction of the words Star of Orion.  Most Starions are well used and depreciated classics, but to find one from the original owner with only 25k miles on the odometer is a cool treat.  Find this 1986 Chrysler Conquest for sale in Fairfield, CA for $9,995 via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

5k: 1986 Dodge Conquest/Starion w/V8 swap

The Dodge Conquest/Mitsubishi Starion/Plymouth Conquest/Chrysler Conquest was a line of 4 cars built in the 80s by Mitsubishi in Japan - rebadged for Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler to confuse simpletons.  It was the Japanese version of a pony car and the stallion could run! Turbocharged front engine, manual trans, rear wheel drive and limited slip differentials made the car compared to Mustangs, Camaros, Porsche 944 & RX7s.  This 1986 Dodge Conquest  has received the full stallion package with a heart transplant from a Ford Mustang and is offered for sale in Fort Payne, AL for $7k.
