1k: Back From The Future: 1980 XK1 Tri Hawk 3-Wheeler

In the past, the future was a terrible place.  Distopian futurists claimed that we'd all be living in some kind of post nuclear winter land with an oppressive big brother watching us (best case), or fighting for scraps of food (worst case) but that isn't the worst part. The worst part is the horrible automobiles that futurists dreamed up in what can only be described as a nightmare.  Find this 1980 XK1 Tri Hawk 3 wheel Car/motorcycle here on eBay currently bidding for $1,776 with a few hours to go, located in Carle Place, NY.

Did some builder seriously think that cars would look like this in 35 years when he created/assembled/massacred this combination of fiberglass and motorcycle power.  The best thing you can say about it is that it looks a bit like an X-wing fighter without its wings. 


Power comes from a Honda CX 650cc water cooled twin cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The motorcycle engine is probably the coolest thing about this build, but three wheels...yikes...

    It looks like you could 'glass in the wheel openings, put an outboard motor on it, and have a pretty cool speedboat.

    The worst thing about the original design: Who ever thought it was a good idea to put a radiator in the passenger compartment?

      Every car has a radiator in the passenger compartment, but you may know them by their other name -- heater.

      @Scooter. You beat me to it! I have even used the "auxiliary radiator" aspect of the heater core to keep a dodgy Datsun 510 from overheating in traffic. Of course, it just moved the overheating problem to the driver.

      @Bobinott, I've always wondered if that actually works. The one time I tried to do that it didn't seem to have much effect.

      You do sacrifice the driver to save the engine, but full heat, crank up the fan, and let the heat exhaustion set in. BTDT.

    It looks like some variation of the Bond Bug, but the bug has the entire top lift up. Check it out at:
