BMW's E34 M5 sits in a sweet spot between the rapidly appreciating E28 and the not-yet-done-sliding E39 generation. What the E34 lacks in charisma compared to the E28, it makes up in comfort and legacy--because it was the last of the hand-built M-cars and slightly more sophisticated than the E28. Find this low mile 1991 BMW E34 M5 that might be for sale in Kahului, Hawaii for an unknown price via M5board.com. 
It isn't often that a 52k mile E34 M5 comes up for sale, so it will be interesting to see what this car goes for as a similar condition E28 M5(or E30 M3) would command premium bucks. It has been almost a year since we last did our last E34 market update, but this one is the nicest we've seen in the meantime.
The North American E34 M5 left the factory with a 3.6 liter S38B36 inline-6 that puts out 307 horsepower and 266 ft-lbs of torque into a Getrag 280 5-spd manual gearbox. No auto was offered for the M5 in the E34 body style making it easy to find a good example for your daily commute/hooning. Additionally they were all equipped with a limited slip differential out back and a good old-fashioned steering box setup up front (no rack & pinion). The result is a car that requires heavy inputs to go fast and drives like a '60s muscle car, but with proper shock dampening. It never does let you forget that it weighs 3800 lbs, but it eats up corners and straightaways with equal vigor.
The interior of the E34 generation 5-series is a small step up from the E28 and features a driver-centric dash setup that instantly makes any driver feel at home. The dash and touch surfaces last against the elements surprisingly well and this example has only 52k miles on the odometer. It looks nice.

Not really sure where seller is getting their asking price from, that is E39 E.A.G. asking prices and they are top notch. It's a shame really, because the seller will probably bump the price again once they find out the car has made it to D.T. and then will do it again once it hits BAT.
ReplyDeleteIn Editor-In-Charge Vince's defense, the asking price for this M5 wasn't posted until after the DT feature was written. If we'd seen a $30k E34 that wasn't stuffed with at least $20k worth of Nazi gold, we would have passed on the crack pipe price and left it for other sites to share!
DeleteSeems to be a conflicted individual----puts 18" M-parallels on it, upping the "flash" factor by quite a bit, but then debadges it of all signs of M-origins.
