10k: I Love You, You Love Me: 1982 DeLorean DMC-12 project

The DMC-12 is a futuristic looking sportscar with a fiberglass monocoque covered by cosmetic stainless steel panels from the mind of John DeLorean and the pen of Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ital Design.  The DMC-12 was powered by a mid mounted PRV V6,assembled in Northern Ireland and was only available in polish stainless finish.  Find this 1982 DeLorean DMC-12 purple project for sale in Nelsonville, OH for $10,000 obo.  Tip from the Hack Mechanic.

The typical price for a decent running/driving DMC-12 is at least two to three times the current asking price on this Barney the Dino colored hulk. There are certainly faster (not to mention better looking) cars for much less, but the DeLorean bug has bitten not only Back To The Future fans, but also weird car buffs in general.  What else competes in the collector space of an American-designed, French-powered, North-Irelandian-built, gull-winged, sports car.



Personally, I'd prefer a twin turbo nutter version, but for the price this purple pile of parts does have a certain appeal.  The seller only shows one picture in the ad, but includes a link to a youtube video, shown below.

    DeLoreans brother had a Caddy dealership in Lakewood OHIO and he painted most of them colors before putting them on the lot. These cars are dangerous at any speed unless they had the 3 upgrade recalls from the dealers at the time.

    Perry here. Painted Deloreans have usually had bodywork problems (accidents) You cannot bondo over stainless & have it not be visible. So, ya paint it.
