The Pinzgauer was born in Graz, Austria, the product of European light troop transportation needs as fulfilled by Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG from 1971 to 2000. Today, a used Pinzgauer is a great way to pick up a good off-roading troop transport for the family man with lots of kids or for someone who is still a kid. Find this 1974 Pinzgauer 710 offered for $6,900 in Prescott, AZ via craigslist.
The Pinzgauer 710M was a simple troop transport, but it offered full-time 4-wheel drive and seating for 10 passengers. Off roading capability is good because it has a relatively short wheelbase and great angles of approach/departure. Power comes from a 2.5 liter aircooled inline-4 cylinder engine that was good for 88 horsepower and 133 ft-lbs of torque when new. It won't thrill anyone and will take some time to get up to highway speeds, but it was designed to be rugged and easy to fix.
That is a nice Pinzgauer. Air cooled inline-4 is a strange setup.
