The Samurai is a small boxy looking sport utility vehicle that seats 4 and dances over hills with ease. A stock Samurai is oibara seppuku slow and while you might be tempted to drop a big V8 into the front, it probably makes more sense to save two cylinders and use a Chevy Vortec V6. Find this 1988 Suzuki Samurai for sale in the Hudson Valley, NY area for $5,000 via craigslist. 
The seller is skimpy on the photos and says he will only provide additional photos to serious buyers and not "up late surfing tire kickers"...which is well within the seller's rights if not ultimately damaging to his bottom line. The seller states that the 4.3 liter Vortec V6 (making anywhere from 165 to 200 hp depending on year of donor) is mated to a 200R4 slushbox with 2WD, which should be much more lively than the stock 1.3 liter 4-banger. The lack of 4WD means that this is less of a billy-goat than it used to be, but at least it won't struggle to get over the uphill part of a speedbump anymore. Shame about the lack of engine bay pics...

I like the juxtaposition. The 2WD trucklet says "wimpy hairdresser", but the wheels say "I carry a butterfly knife in my sock".
