OG Saloon: 1966 Jaguar S-Type 3.8 Mk II

I have to admit that I'm not 100% up-to-date on the market for mid 1960s Jag S-Types...but I can tell you without looking that getting a running/driving example for $4k in today's market of over-priced and over-hyped junk (looking at you Porsche 911) is a breath of fresh air.  Actually the air behind this thing will be smoggy cancer causing mud, but you get the drift.  Okay, I just looked it up -- Hagerty says a #4 fair condition version of this car is worth something around $18k, so this is a smashing deal. Find this 1966 Jaguar S-Type 3.8 Mk II offered for $4000 in South San Francisco, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Not Cliché : 1969 Ford Cortina Mk2

As I write up the posts for today, I've got Mecum Auctions 2018 at Indianapolis on the tele, and it makes for an interesting juxtaposition to the thing looking at me on the screen.  The '65 GTO crossing the block (that sold for $21k) is a nice car...in fact, all of the cars hitting the block at a big name auction are "nice" but they are mostly lacking in character, individuality, or (critically) affordability.  These things are bloody expensive and most are the typical cliché cars you'd find at any Friday night car show, so why not get something like this 1969 Ford Cortina Mk2 offered for $1600 in Corona, CA via craigslist. Vee Six Vee Dub- 1991 VW GTI 3.6

The second generation of the VW GTI soldiered on until 1992 in the USA.  The later MK2 cars benefited from a roarty 16V 4 cylinder engine which made a respectable 134 hp.  Today's GTI rewrote the playbook for what can be done with one of these cars.  It's close to 300 hp 3.6 V-6 engine comes from a late model VW CC and has cool custom touches everywhere you look.  The custom GTI modifications are so well executed that it is hard to believe there is a reasonable asking price.  In the metro NYC area, there are tons of slammed VW's with stretched tires that literally are on different planet than this beast.  Find this 1991 VW GTI for sale in Lake Hopatcong, NJ for $9,800 via craigslist.

5k: Ford V8 Powered: 1967 Ford Cortina Mk 2

Two Cortinas in a row -- what sort of madness is going on here?  Okay, this site isn't turning into the Daily Cortina, and the truth is that we only stumbled upon this next one after the first Cortina had been written up and was waiting its turn in the queue.  Find this 1967 Ford Cortina MK2 with Ford V8 power offered for $5,300 in Stockton, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Andrey.

10k: Scirocky Balboa: 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco Mk 2

No car better epitomizes Marlon Brando's famous line from Oscar winning 1954 Elia Kazan epic On The Waterfront; " I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am" than the Giorgetto Giugiaro penned Volkswagen Scirocco.  The sporty looking coupe was launched to high hopes in 1974 as a sporty alternative to the Golf/Rabbit/Jetta, but eventually died at the hands of the better and more usable GTi.  Find this 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco for sale in Fremont, CA for $9,500 via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.

DTO: High Society: 1962 Jaguar Mk 2 Sedan

The Jaguar Mk 2 sedan  is one of the most beautiful 4-door saloon cars ever built.  Once the getaway car for gangsters trying to flee the rozzers and now a refuge from the humdrum dullness of just about everything else on the road, a classic Mk 2 will fetch a handsome sum in nice shape.  However, the asking price for this feature is extremely steep and may need another go-around or two before it finds a buyer.  Find this 1962 Jaguar Mk 2 sedan with Ford V8 power for sale in Saint Cloud, FL for $29,495 or best offer via ebay.
