2k Flash: 1988 Mercedes-Benz 300TE W124 Wagon

The W124 generation Mercedes-Benz is one of our favorites at the Daily Turismo, so it's only natural that we would jump at the chance to feature a W124 wagon offered for the price of timing belt change.  This 1988 Mercedes-Benz 300TE W124 wagon is for sale in Los Angeles, CA for $1975 from a seller named BIG ROB (CAPSLOCK IS HIS NOT OURS!).


This W124 is powered by the M103, a 3.0 liter inline 6 that puts out 177 horsepower and 188 ft-lbs of torque into the rear wheels via a 4 speed automatic transmission.


Scant details exist in the advertisement about this car, but the shoe print paper floor mat indicates that BIG ROB is either a salesman or mechanic at a dealer or repair shop.


Bottom line; this wagon isn't a bad way to spend $1975 and unless it needs a new engine would make a decent junkyard hauler or light duty tow vehicle.

    . if BIG ROB is a salesperson he needs to enroll in Kinder-closer. features? benefits? whut them is? duh...
    i really like these but this one? how the hell would i know?

    These were great cars when new but have so many electrical bugs you would need Nikola Tesla to help you figure them out.

    I've owned two of these 300TE's, a 1989 and a 1991, and put 350K miles on the two of them combined. Great cars! Not sure about this one though, as it's priced about $3-4 k below market

    Scant Details - has to be an understatement of the century. Try "no details". Definitely being sold off by a mechanic shop or u/c lot. Is that a buyer's guide in the window or a kelly blue book sheet? Agree with Brent that something is afoul here. Things to watch out for - bad a/c (most likely R12), bad trans, leaking front/rear main seals, coolant leaks, bad window regulators. Electronics are not that bad as it is still a fairly straight forward car. Besides the window regulators, the HVAC controls had a tendency to go on a fritz. Easy repair by switching out the control block. I'd buy it for $1k and then tinker on it. Yeah, you will end up on the north side of $3k but then you will know what you have.
