Now is a good time as any to get into a third generation Chevy Camaro or Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am.  In recent years, the Smokey and the Bandit 1970's cars have seen some strong appreciation so bargain third gens are still out there.  The Iroc-Z is a icon of the 1980's and boasted a real racing heritage.  These Camaro's duked it out with the 5.0 Mustangs for king of the streets in the late 1980's when engines awoke from malaise era induced fog.  The 5.0 305 Chevy V8 was and is second fiddle to the 350 5.7.  However, only the 305 was able be paired with a 5 speed manual and in 1987 it only had 10 less hp than the top rung 350  Find this 1987 Chevy Camaro Iroc Z for sale in Newtown, CT for an easy on the budget price of $2,500 via craigslist.

Welcome back to another episode of DT's Mid Week Match-Up -- a feature that is more interesting than a Republican primary debate moderated by Ali G.  This week's request comes from Sean S who writes:
Ok,  First of all I know this is just stupid but I can’t help it. I am a middle age yuppie who should just keep it cool but I have desires.  I need the DTers help. Please help me find the perfect IROC-Z OR…..TALK ME OUT OF IT. I must be having a mid-life crisis. I should know better than to buy a late 80s american car but I can't stop looking at Camaros and fox body Mustangs from my high school days. 

IROC 'n' Roll: 1976 Jaguar XJ6 Coupe XJ-C

The XJ Coupe (or XJ-C) was a handsome two door version of Jaguar's Series II XJ saloon (sedan) built from 1975 through 1978.  Over the four years of production, they only sold 9,378 of the coupe version, probably because Jaguar released the modern looking XJ-S in 1976, but the XJ-C was arguably prettier at the last car to feature direct design input from Sir William Lyons himself.  Today's XJ-C might have an American surprise under the hood, but looks like it was done correctly.  Find this 1976 Jaguar XJ6 Coupe XJ-C here on eBay bidding for $8,400 reserve-not-met with $15,500 buy-it-now and 2 days to go, located in Krum, TX.

The 3rd generation Chevrolet Camaro is an oddly satisfying car to drive; it is one part old school muscle car and one part modern V8 coupe.  Even with the slushbox auto transmission it seems to shout "hey imports, get outta my way!" and then proceeds to lose just about any drag race with a nitrous equipped & gutted Civic...but that is a story for another time.  Find this 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z with 5.7 liter TPI V8 offered for $9,500 in Lula, GA via autotrader.com. 

10k: Mullet Madness: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

In 1985 Chevrolet introduced a sport option to its Z28 option called the IROC, and while pronounced "I-Rock" it has nothing to do with Whitesnake and is an acronym for the International Race of Champions.  The International Race of Champions was a North American race that pitted a group of invited drivers against each other in a group of identical Camaros (from 1975-1989).  Chevrolet saw the opportunity to cash in on its advertising money and created the IROC-Z version that included upgraded suspension, staggered wheels and a TPI engine borrowed from the Corvette.  Find this 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z for sale in Santa Fe, NM for $11,873 via craigslist.  Big thanks to tipper Paul M.
