Luxury Car Roulette: Mercedes-Benz S430 vs BMW 750li vs Audi A8L vs VW Phaeton

A quick look in your local craigslist for $5k cars is an experience not too far from dangling in a La-Z-Boy recliner above a hungry sarlacc pit with nothing holding you up but a harbor freight bungie cord that's on fire.  Sure, its a great way to get your adrenaline flowing while being super comfy, but that warm feeling in your gut isn't just the two week old Mexican food leftovers that you probably shouldn't have eaten...it is also the fact that most sub $5k cars for sale or total junk. Salvaged late model Japanese economy cars are everywhere...but there is hope.  And that hope lies in the over priced German luxury tanks that have depreciated into poor man's territory and the only downside is a threat of doom from lurking expensive repairs.  Just don't say it was my idea to drive one of these cars.  They all came as a tip from FuelTruck.  So if your wife needs someone to blame...blame the tipper. Which would you pick?  Mercedes-Benz S430 vs BMW 750li vs Audi A8L vs VW Phaeton

More, More, More: 1991 BMW 750il Supercharged 6 speed

The installation of a 12 cylinder engine into the BMW E32 was big news and actually caught Mercedes flat footed.  What if you have thousands of dollars to burn making a V12 even faster?  Today's feature is the answer of that exact question along with a substantial list of other modifications that are not normally associated with the luxury 7 series car.  The six speed manual conversion is just the cherry on top of this sundae.  Find this 1991 BMW 750il  for sale in Alpine, NJ for $6,500 via craigslist.

Mobile Chalkboard: 2006 BMW 750iL

There are a good number of reasons to not make your girlfriend/wife/concubine upset...as somebody recently found out.  As William Congreve causally posits in his 1697 feature tragedy The Mourning Bride -- Heaven has no rage, like love to hatred turned, Nor hell a fury, like a woman scorned.  But, I think Tupac put it right when he said: And even though you're fed up Huh, you got to keep your head up.  Which is ironic because he was gunned down in a 750iL -- anyway, find this 2006 BMW 750iL offered at a dismantler in Rancho Cordova, CA via craigslist. Another great find by Cory.

Tupac's Last Ride: 1996 BMW 750iL

When I first saw this listing, I thought -- DT is not a place for murderabilia, we are better than that.  And then I remembered that we aren't better than anything, and one of DT's early breakout stories was Dr Jack Kevorkian's death van.  So...yup, this next thing is a perfect fit.  Find this 1996 BMW 750iL that was the scene of Tupac's untimely murder offered for $1.5 million smackeroos via Momentsintime.com.

Shoulda Had A V12: 1998 BMW 750il

The BMW 750iL wasn't the first affordable V12 car to be sold to the masses because it wasn't even affordable in any sense of the concept, but once depreciated it was the first cheap V12 that didn't blow up on weekdays that end in the word day (I'm looking at you Jaguar XJ12). Thankfully, these 12 cylinder luxury sedans are cheap and plentiful on the used market.  Find this 1998 BMW 750iL offered for $3,400 near Houston, TX via craigslist.  Tip from Jeff.

10k: 2001 BMW 750iL V12 E38: Zombie Proof

Continuing our appreciation for all things powered by a V12, we need to feature a BMW since they have long offered a V12 in sedans that have since depreciated to junk yard cheap levels.  This 2001 BMW 750iL (e38 series) is powered by a V12 and for sale in Harker Heights, TX for $8500 via craiglist.
