Smokin: 1969 Chrysler Newport

The Newport was Chrysler's entry level offering starting way back in  1961, and by the third generation's release in 1969 it was still the choice for Mopar loving cheapskates and fleet buyers alike. Today, you can pickup a Newport in nice condition for half the price of a proper 2-door Mopar muscle car and spend the savings on Newports.  Find this 1969 Chrysler Newport here on eBay bidding for $6,400 with 1 day to go, located in Fox Island, WA.


The Newport 4-door sedan isn't the sexiest beast on the road, and many old school types will scoff at the idea of owning something other than a hardtop, but I can't help but picture some bad guy from a 70s TV show chasing down the good guys with this thing.  Of course, it would end up flipping on its top after crashing into a truck, but for a few minutes the good guy's sports car couldn't get away from the most bare bones 4-door sedan you could find.


This one sports its original 383 cubic inch V8 mated to an automatic and has only 72k miles on the odometer (the seller assures us this is actual mileage).  Expect 290 horsepower and 390 ft-lbs of torque to be somewhat held back by the 4001 lbs (or so) curb weight, but with some skinny tires out back you should be able to do some nice smokey burnouts.

    I'm mostly more into the small Euro/Japanese things, but for some reason these fuselage cars just do it for me... maybe it's the influence of all those old cop shows.

    These look even better with concealed headlamps.

    "Smoky burnouts" on Dads car? Hahahahaha..........My Dad had a 1970 Newport. Basically a rattly couch on wheels. Every time he took a curve we'd go sliding along the seats. It was stolen believe it or not off the streets of New York City and I thought that was that. Incredibly it was recovered and the insurance company repaired it and he drove it until he traded it for a ....wait for it........a 1982 Buick. Poor guy. Its a good thing his son has the carguy mojo and wouldnt be caught dead in either of them!.

    Fox Island is a cool place ridden my Motorcycle over there a few times but this Cryco does nothing for me.

    So much want for some reason. Someday I'll get my pennies oops I mean nickels(pennies went the way of the dodo up here) all in one place and get one of these. I just hope i can find a nice one.
